Yes it is. If you install a NVMe M2 drive rather than a SAT drive. When you connect to a USB 3.1 port you will get the limit of that port 10gb/s vs 6gb/s SATA limit. When copying large files, my Mac shows a little higher than 1000MB/sec transfers vs the 500-600MB/sec of a SATA drive.
