Does the require an AC adapter.?

No, a separate adapter isn't required (or included), but it can use one of you choose.  It comes with a USB cable with two male 'A' connectors on one end. One is standard data & power, the other has a thinner cable and is for additional power if the port used is insufficient.  So in some cases, you will need two available USB ports on the device it's attached to.   It's important to note, that E-SATA is not powered, so you would still need the USB cable for power (and possibly use both its connectors)   I'd reccommend a small AC adaptor if using this primarily in one location with ESATA, and then using the USB when going mobile. Is this SSD Enclosure compatible with SATA III SSD? I'm wondering this am I planning to purchase a 750 GB SSD. Thanks in advance for your response.

Hi, I am sure that it is COMPATIBLE. I have used it with two Samsung 840 SSDs (an a PRO and an EVO) that are both SATA III and they worked fine.

However, I do not think that we get SATA speeds! This unit has a USB 2.0 port that limits the speed to 480 Mb/s, and a eSATA prot that runs at about 1.5 Gb/s.
SATA III is supposed to run at  6 Gb/s. If they have a External drive enclosure that is USB 3.0 then that would give us CLOSE to the same speed. USB 3.0 can run at 5 Gb/s, but the two USB 3.0 devices that I have only ran at 1.5 Gb/s but that is on older hardware too.
I am building a new system with USB 3.0 being native so I know that I will see faster USB with USB 3.0 devices but I still DOUBT that they will run at 5 Gb/s.
The new USB 3.0 standard is MAX of 5 Gb/s.
