I want to use this for vendor shows/expos. Can this be battery powered or USB powered by a laptop, or does it use only AC power? THanks

There isn't a terminal/slot for batteries and we've never tried to use the USB to power it. A/C is the way to go.

does this have a light sensor? where it will turn itself off if no light is detected like other viewsonic 8in models have?

This was bought as a gift, so the buyer does not know. The recipient seemed happy.

How does one erase photos on the ViewSonic VFD1028w Digital photo frame?

I use a memory card rather than the internal memory. Holds more pictures and you can easily put it in to your computer to add or delete pictures.
