Is there a restriction on the size of files that can be transferred to the hard drive?

The drive itself does not have a file size limit (FYI - no HDD, in and of itself, has a max file size limit other than the size of the drive).

Depending on the File System that you format the drive with, there may be a limit.  NTFSv5 (modern windows) has a limit of 16 ExaBytes, old NTFS (windows NT) has a limit of 16 TeraBytes, Fat32 has a 4 GB limit, Fat16 was 2GB.  ExFAT (Mac, Vista & up) can handle 16 EB just like NTFSv5.

If you're running Windows you should be OK.  It comes NTFS formatted and the max file size for that system is larger than this drive.

Does this work with windows 7 and windows 10 when it comes out?

I use it with windowed 7 and a Mac and it works great I have used about half of it as I use it for editing video on . Over all I am very happy with it

Does this work with USB2?

Indeed it does, it is 3.0, but backwards compatible with older ports. It will just have a slower data transfer speed.

On this product, can I drag and drop files from my desktop computer to it, or do I have to use the backup software to get files from my computer to the hard drive?

yes - it shows up as just another directory. You can rename it etc. It is no different than any other file folder. It does not compress the files or treat it like a backup.

I'm interested in using this to add storage capacity to my Dish Hopper system. Can that be done?

I do not have the Dish Hopper system. When I tried to connect this drive to my Scientific Atlanta HD box from Cablevision, the HD box malfunctioned. Wish you the best.

Is this drive compatable with Windows 7 and will Win 7 recognize the full drive capacity?

As long as you leave it formatted for NTFS on a GUID Partition Table (GPT) then you're fine.  GPT disks support partitions up to 2 EB (that's 2,000,000 TB and well over the size of any commercially available drive).

The limits you heard of were concerning the disk that holds the Windows boot drive (traditionally C:\).  Because of some other factors, this drive must be an MBR type which is limited to 2 TB

Regular Hard Drive with discs. SSD would be way more at this storage capacity.

Can I hook 2 of the WD drives to my PC using Windows at the same time to move files from one to the other? I could not do it with a WD Passport the PC would only recognize one drive.

yes you can but it sounds like before you had the drives hooked up via a hub or a split off USB. USB drives that require bus power cannot run very well off of a USB hub. if you are using a desktop, it is recommended to connect them directly to the motherboard USB ports. if you are using a laptop, don't use A USB hub. if you do use a USB hub it needs to be a powered USB hub. that's what I use on my desktop PC.

What is the total capacity of this 6TB drive? I've got roughly about 4.5TB of music that I'd like to transfer if this drive will hold what I have.

Real close to 6TB.  I reformatted the drive for my Mac and removed the backup software that is installed on the drive.  I'm sure you'll have no trouble getting your music onto it.

Question 10

Would this be a good drive to backup YouTube videos (like a backup copy of all edited/exported videos? I wonder how many it would store? Average size 700-1200Mb.

estimating the average sized of your videos at 1 gb-it would store almost 6000.  This is a great drive, I use it for storing and streaming my movie files.
