Does this drive come with a retaining screw?

No it did not,  it came with the motherboard.  If you never had one supplied or tossed it, look to a repair shop that works on laptops they should what your looking for.

What is the operational volume of this drive? i.e. does the computer see it as 250GB?

Accepted Answer

No. As with most Hard Drives (whether mechanical or SSD) the actual size of the drive is what is listed, but when formatted, the usable space is reduced. On average you end up with about 247GB of usable space on this SSD.

Newbie to m.2 stuff, will this work with a z370-A PRO msi motherboard?

Yes, though i suggest putting it in a lower slot below your GPU that way you get some airflow off the GPU to keep it cool. M.2 SSDs tend to get quite warm when being used heavily and they can thermal throttle when there is no airflow. you should have no problems what so ever as long as it has some good airflow around it, even warm air from a GPU.

I wouldn't know. I have not tried it with that motherboard. I would consult the hardware compatibility document for the motherboard.

I can't tell by searching online if your laptop has an m.2280 slot. The pictures almost look like it is an mSATA or M.2 2260. You would have to pop off the back cover to verify.
