I'm replacing the original Deskstar hd; 80g, 7200 rpm, Ultra ATA/IDE, out of a Dell Dimension 2400 computer. Is this HD compatable?

I recently replaced a similar drive in a Gateway 2.8GHz P4 PC with the  WD 80G HD and had no problems.

does this come with windows on it? this is to replace a dell that i bought from you, I want to make sure it is compatible with Sata power p15 - p1 and serial data s7 - s1

No, it does not come with Windows on it.  It isn't even formatted for use.  It is also not the right type of hard drive either.  Look for a SATA hard drive, such as the WD5000AAKX.  Once installed in your computer you will need to have Dell recovery discs to laod Windows.

If this all sounds a bit much then you really should find a a repair shop to to the work.

I have an old Compaq Presario.  Is this the same type hard drive for these older machines?

Your best bet would be to open the computer and check the interface cable, to ensure it is PATA. You can also verify the bus speed in the BIOS.

Short answer though: Unless we're talking a very old desktop, you probably won't have an issue accessing it.
