Does it comes with other plugs, like European, South America, etc.?

It doesn't have any extra plugs with it though you can remove it and replace it with a standard 2-pin plug, I have a power cord from an old stereo plugged into it so I can set it on a table. It is rated for 100-240VAC, so it is usable in other countries, not just the U.S.

does the plug rotate or is it fixed in the position shown?

Based on the physical appearance of the plug, it can only be oriented according to the illustration.

My (gentle) attempt to unlock the plug mechanism with a screwdriver (per the slot on the lock) resulted in the latching mechanism literally falling to pieces in my hands.

Good thing that replacing the plug with a cord was not the thing that I required the unit to perform.

Can I use it in 220 volts?

Yes. I am using it at 240v 50Hz.

Question 4

Is the AC adapter (separate plug that comes with it) supposed to fit flush when mounted to the charger? On the one I received, the slots don't seem to line up, so the top piece of plastic doesn't fit into the opening.

Yes,  Mine is assembled as pictured here on Newegg and there is not a gap between the plug and the main unit.  If I pull - wiggle on the plug i can separate it a little.  Mine has remained in 'unlocked' setting but has done fine with 3 cords always plugged in available for a MP3 player or two cell phones.   no issues found here.  satisfied customer
