What is the range of this device (in other words: how many miles away from my location will I be able to receive signal(s))?

I live in Albuquerque, NM.   Our broadcast antennas are on Sandia Peak - the top of the Sandia  mountain range to the east of the city.   This puts me about 25 miles from the antenna (as the crow flies).   I get about 40-50 digital channels.   I have the antenna mounted on the inside of a window.  It is just taped on the window with packing tape.  It is so thin that the bottom window that slides up to open, does not make contact with the antenna.   It gets very good reception including HD channels.

Question 2

Does this require a "converter" box or do you connect directly into the TV?

To be specific, if your TV is natively capable of "Digital" signal reception via coax, then yes. You can directly connect the antenna to the coax connection on your television and use your channel scanner feature to obtain Over-The-Air (OTA) signals. This is how I have mine connected.

If you have an older analog television, then no. You need a digital converter box to convert the digital signals to analog before it will work with your television.

As an additional tip, to get the best reception from this antenna, try to place it in a window or other minimal interference location for best reception.
