Too aggressive of an overclock... 4/6/2013 3:58:14 PM

Pros: For $200 in 2009, this card has more than paid for itself. I write this review both as a nod to XFX for building a long lasting product (despite their overly ambitious overclock) and to help anyone googling this card trying to solve freeze-ups that may be occuring relating to this card. See 'other thoughts'.

Cons: The overclock. I've had several of these cards and learned the hard way that the factory overclock had to come down, particularly the voltage.

Overall Review: The freezing that many people experience after a year or two of having this card is because it's running so ridiculously hot. Undervolt this bad boy a smidge and you'll still maintain a healthy overclock compared to stock core-216 specs and have a happy and cool video card for some time to come. Hope this helps someone out there!

Good product! 12/3/2012 8:01:22 PM

Pros: Good video card overall! Still working after more than 3 years!

Cons: Can get pretty hot! But it's not a concern in my HAF 922.

Iv had it for a while 9/15/2012 11:41:41 AM

Pros: I can even begin to think how many hours are on this thing by now, its going into its 4th build today, never slowed down, Iv even been playing BF3 with some surprisingly good FPS for how old this thing is.

Cons: cant get the DA#N thing to SLI to anything, coolbits, drive sweep nothing. And after all the years the fan is showing its age

Where to start 3/19/2012 3:14:01 AM

Pros: well when i first got the card it was amazing looking i couldnt wait to get it in my system. got it installed and was running far cry 2 on max with no lag and no issues. was an amazing card.......to start

Cons: after about 3 months it started acting up freezing my system, random crashes, black screens that looped the sound, and just a bunch of other stupid issues ive had the card for about 4 years now....well i have 2 of them and i got all new guts for my PC and its the same darn issue's i thought that the card would be alright with new gear but i was wrong its even worse than it was before even with all the updates to the drivers. its just turned into a piece of trash to throw out my window

Overall Review: DO NOT BUY THIS CARD.......IT WILL FAIL YOU

negate the negative reviews 8/2/2009 1:08:56 AM

Pros: -for the price its unbeatable
-black edition makes a difference compared to my buddys regular 260
-lots of free stuff(i got it during a promo so i got 2 free games along with the far cry 2 disc included and the funmark program etc etc)
-fits in my case
- runs crysis everything maxed decently on my 26 inch monitor at 1280x768

Cons: have to manually control the fan :\ no biggie if you know what your doing.... someone in another review suggested evga precision 1.7 that works fine or get riva tuner, running at 80% my fan doesnt go over 50c even in crysis

Overall Review: i was really concerned about having to upgrade my gfx card later on down the road but this card gave me the confidence, unless crytek decides to make a new gpu destroying game in the near future youll be alright with this card although the refurbed evga gtx 280 for 224$ was tempting...this had more goodies

system specs:
asrock a780gxe/128m
phenom II x3 720 2.8mhz @ 3.5mhz
ocz platinum ddr2 1066 2x2gb @ 800mhz

This thing makes games run smooth as butter... 7/30/2009 2:04:41 PM

Pros: This is the card you need if you just want to pick up a game & not look at the system requirements. I have not seen a game choke this card. Resident Evil 5, Street Fighter 4, Bionic Commando & Crysis runs at top resolution & all effects on. Yes, I said Crysis!

Cons: To all the reviewers on this site who have crashes with this card. Follow this tip.....

Download EVGA Precision 1.7.1 - Google it, Download it, Install it. When the application launches, change the fan speed from 40% (the default) to 60%...or higher if you choose. No more crashes & no more dead cards. This application works on any brand GeForce 260 card.

This thing is huge & needs 3 things..... a lot of room in your case, plenty of airflow & a t least a 600w PSU. Putting this thing in a MicroATX case is going to give you problems...period.

Overall Review: My current Rig:

AMD Phenom X4 Black Edition 2.66GHz
4GB G.Skill DDR2
XFX GeForce 260 Black Edition 216
1TB Hard Drive
Windows 7 Release Candidate build 7600

This thing flies!! 7/30/2009 9:21:24 AM

Pros: Very fast and smooth graphics. I'm running Fallout3 fully maxed and it doesn't skip a beat. Not to mention it's SLI compatible. 3D Mark Vantage benchmarked mine at around 8600 or so (non-overclocked and with updated drivers). Next on the list are Assassin's Creed and FarCry2.

Cons: It's huge. It sits in a Thermaltake Armor full tower and it's still cramped for space.

Overall Review: Overall, no complaints. I can deal with the size issue, it's expected with a high-end graphics card. Definitely a great card for the price
