XFX Radeon HD 4850 1GB DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 CrossFireX Support Video Card HD-485X-ZNFC

Pros: - Cheap. Got it for 47 bucks after rebate. - Cool (46 idle, 70 load on my system) - Performance/Price is amazing

Cons: This is not a proper desktop 4850. First of all Windows recognizes this as Mobility Radeon HD 4850 (initially, since it becomes "Radeon HD 4800 Series" after installing CCC. Second, GPU-Z lists the GPU as M98 (instead of RV770 like it does with my ASUS 4850). M98 is the codename for Mobility 4850. This is not mentioned anywhere on the box. This tends to create driver issues. For example, I'm unable to use ATI Overdrive with the latest (11.2) Catalyst drivers. The sliders keep on resetting. However, if I use the drivers on disc Overdrive works fine. Unfortunately the drivers on that CD are based on Catalyst 10.6, and this is a frigging graphics card so using old drivers is a big no-no.

Overall Review: XFX website says this card is not HDCP compliant. Not sure how accurate that is, but if true it would make this card less attractive than other *proper* 4850s.

Overall Review: So like many of us, I was having problems updating the drivers for this card. Every time I booted into windows, it would cause an immediate crash. Called XFX, they said there was a BIOS update for the video card itself. They sent me this link: http://xfxstorage.com/Support/BIOS/Video/ATI/4850/4850Driver/ I downloaded the USB version, created the USB bootup drive per their instructions, flashed the bios on the video card, and now it's working. No more crashes. Hope it helps! Spread the word. I was about to throw this card out too!

Pros: Fast, cheap. Runs Skyrim like a champ on High Quality @ 1680 x 1050 on a 4-year old PC (Q9450 CPU).

Cons: Extremely flaky with drivers, random crashing inside of games. XFX support section of website (which requires registration) is not helpful.

Overall Review: I'm writing this as an update to my previous review. I tried what reviewer "td" said and flashed the BIOS located here (I used the bootable CD method): http://xfxstorage.com/Support/BIOS/Video/ATI/4850/4850Driver/ Like him, this enabled me to install the latest 11.11 Catalyst drivers. I have played a bit with no crashes. Why that BIOS isn't on their support site is beyond me, it would solve problems for a lot of people.

Pros: I really love it, it's super fast, and can handle ANYTHING I throw at it at 1600x900 (horrible moniter). I'm surprised it was this cheap. :)

Cons: - Rebate. Always had bad problems with rebates, hope this one goes better.

Overall Review: XFX always has a lifetime warranty, so I don't have to worry about it crapping out on me. :)

Pros: With the current rebate, this is a fantastick deal! If this is all that you need for 2D/3D graphics performance - go for it. I had initial systems instability [ lockup of teh system in an hour or less], I completely uninstalled and then reinstalled the video drivers.. no help. Contacted XFX support, got a reply next day with instructions. After uninstalling C++ runtime and installing a fresh version, including Windows updates for it, all of the problems went away. 5 eggs for New Egg for prompt fast shipping 5 eggs to XFX support for quick answer.

Cons: None.

Pros: PRICE and POWER! I needed something that could run Star Trek Online at respectable frame rates and settings. I was going to buy Power Color's 4650 with ddr3 for a rig I threw together from used parts but then New egg came through with this awesome price 77 dollar with special promotion and free shipping. Nothing beats this card for under $100. If you don't play Direct X 11 games then this card is hard to beat. 1 Tera-flops of processing power and 256 mb memory bandwith will give you a Windows 7 of 7.3 I have bought 3 of these cards and am always impressed by the performance of the 4850. You can max out graphics on many games at good fps at 1600x900 and things still look great at 1080i.

Cons: It is power hungry. Since I threw together an old system together...a dual core celeron and 3 gigs of ddr2 800, and old 380 watt PSU I will need to get a more power PSU. For $77 this is worth the psu upgrade.

Overall Review: To the reviewer below not to be rude but ...I really doubt your "high" tech knowledge, if you have a monitor capable of over 60 hz why are you buying a 4850 in the first place?? You should be buying a 6870 or gtx 470 or higher. In addition, if you your tech level is so high; then how come you cant figure out simple menu's? And you cannot even overclock using Catalyst? If you could not then why didn't you use MSI Afterburner? I am amazed by how many people cannot install a graphics card correctly, and still deem their tech level high.

Pros: Excellent crossfire card for 4 series. Shipped in less then 1 week. Great price.

Cons: no crossfire bridge cable, not enough a big deal to knock off an egg :p

Overall Review: Read that some of these XfX cards come DOA, not eh case here, I'd buy another XFX product. Anyone not needing dx11 yet, this is an awesome vid card solo and xfire. Though differences are minimal, Best to xfire with AMD chips, They need all the support they can get, The competition keeps prices down :p Also, don't rely on benchmarks on the Internet. Best bang for buck, reliability, and stability, This card was a great choice :-) Thanx Newegg !
