Question 1

I just got one of these but i am reading that a lot of people get black screens due to the power supply not providing enough amps or a cheap power supply.

This is the power supply I have

It depends upon what else you have using the 12V line and whether you are using two cards.  I'm using 1 card with an 850W and have limited other items on the 12V line.  So, I've never experienced a black screen.  The XFX R9-290A-EDFD Radeon R9 290 has worked perfectly with a 3940x1440 display.

Question 2

I want to make sure my power supply can handle this card. I read in a few places that power lower end power supplies didnt have the amp? required to fully power this card.

From my experience...

I currently have a 600 watt power supply. I wasn't happy with the graphics card I had at the time, so I bought the one you are talking about. It's a great buy.

600 watt power supply can work. HOWEVER, my computer has shut off twice in two specific instances.

It will work fine playing Diablo or even borderlands. In fact, at 60 fps. But after immediately logging off the game then playing a video on Facebook, the computer shuts off.

This only occurred after immediately playing a video game and going straight to Facebook to play a video. I bought a 750 watt a few months ago, and have yet to install it because it hasn't shut off at all after that. To answer your question, 750 is plenty my friend

Question 3

I bought a Cooler Master V850 to power this card and then noticed the PCI-E power cables were 6+2 coming from a 6 pin on the PSU,  I am unable to find pin-out information for the GPU to match up 12v and com connections, is this PCI-E power setup going to be ok?  or should I use the 8 pin 4+4 CPU power connector?

Nooooo. Never do you use cpu power connectors on a cpu. You will most likely kill it. What you can do though is buy 2 6 to 8 pin adapters. They should not be hard to find.

The best bet in my opinon would be to go with a corsair psu. Their 750w and higher all come set for cards with 8 pin connection. If you ever plan on crossfire go  1100w or higher psu. It will future proof your system to run what ever you want to throw in it or if you need more power to overclock the gpu and cpu. the more the better.

One last thing about the r9 290 by xfx. It is a sweet card but I reccomend running your fan at 70% while gaming. Its still quiet and will keep it cool as long as you have great air flow in you case. Any case from the HAF series or similar in desigh is best.

Will this graphics card work fine in a PCI e 2.0 x16 slot?

Short answer: yes.

Longer answer:  you *might* give up a little performance because of the older motherboard, but do not let that bother you! You'll never practically notice it and the card will scale nicely whenever you get a new Motherboard.  :)

Just make sure you have the power connectors available from your PSU. :)

Question 5

I have a CORSAIR CX series CX750 750W.  Will this be big enough to power this card or do I need to upgrade it to something a little bit bigger?  I know it says a minimum of 750W but just don't want to tax the power supply to the max.

I'm no expert. But I've been running this Card on a 750w Corsair power supply as well for the past couple months. I haven't had any issues.

You can try something like this website to check the recommended wattage.

You can use a power supply calculator. (it won't let me link it) on a website like outervision.

Question 6

What's the highest FPS this card can do? Say for instance, League of Legends. What would I get on the highest settings?

Depends on your screen. If you have a 60hz screen thats the max with vsync on. Though this card is a beast. In graphical intensive games it goes all out with out sweating if you have proper cooling. I will say if you leave it at application setting in the ccc and turn on anisotropic filter and textures to high quality in the ccc you will get a solid 50 to 60 if you have a cpu for the game. Mmorpg games are more dependent on a cpu over the gpu. Also for instance I play evil with in and shadow of mordor at max and get 60 fps due to vsync.  Dips maybe to 55 but I max out the cards features and yhe games so 24xeqaa mlaa and all maxed in game settings.

i want to run 2 or three of these im my new rig i am building and it says that it has a 750w minimum requirement dose that mean i am going to need a 2000+ watt psu?

No. You don't need 2000+ watt PSU. They recommend 750 since you'll have your CPU and other components. The video card does draw a lot of power (probably the most within all your system components) but not 750W's worth.

Question 8

Would a 680psu be okay? I know its asking for a 750watt, but are they just being careful? Most other R9 290's run with a minimum of 500watts, why is this one different?

A quality 500w psu will run this no problem.  Most systems without a gpu consume 200w on the 12v line give yourself 250 to be safe.  The gpu uses 300w and not much more even if overclocked.  600w of the psu is probably 12v so even at max load overclocked you'd be alright.

AMD no longer requires a bridge to crossfire GPUs for any GPUs released with the R9 label. So just grab however many you want to crossfire (likely two) and install them into a motherboard with the appropriate PCIe slot(s). From there you'll need to configure the GPUs to crossfire via AMD's driver to get it working properly.

If you look all over the net you will see most benchmarks of this card and the r9 290x are done using intel systems. The only issue with all cards on intel systems is pci-e lanes limit crossfire to 8x per card. Single card use will be full 16x speed. I say get this card over a gtx970 due to the whack frame b
uffer issues with in being only able to access 3.5gb of the vram at 224-bit and the last 512mb is at 32-bit and is pretty much gimped at higher resolutions.

My r9 290 runs well overclocks well and is cool in my haf932. I can run new games at ultra in 2560x1440 at 50 to 70 fps and at 3200x1800 for any game before 2013 full boar. it is a beast of a card and the price is great now.

Make sure to have a good single 12v rail with min of 750w. The por power you have on the psu the more you can overclock the card and cpu. At 750w you can get a modest clock without taxing it.
