Pros: > For $250 you get very playable framerates @ 1440p with settings cranked up on all the latest AAA titles. I just got a new BenQ 1440p freesync panel and this card pushes it better than I expected. >Drivers Feel Stable, and Radeon Settings/Crimson Interface is pretty sleek, light years better than Catalyst. So if your that guy like me that hasn't gotten an AMD card in a long time and is worrying about driver issues - DON'T. Drivers are all good. Not getting any crashes or weird stuff going on while gaming. >Has 8GB Vram, and does well with DX 12 titles, which adds longevity. >BACKPLATE -Need I say more. you see the pics >FreeSync - Getting this card gives you a solid upgrade path for a freesync monitor, which is definitely worth it.
Cons: >Card throttles under gaming load, will not maintain boost clock at all while gaming. I was getting around 1180-1200 mhz with Crimson/wattman on default settings, not the 1280 i think thats advertised. >Definitely runs hot due to blower style reference cooler. This thing is alot hotter than my last card, an EVGA GTX 960, but then again, its a lot faster too. Temps were averaging high 70's while gaming, and peaking in the very low 80's. My case is a Define R5 with extra fans so plenty of air flow and card still runs hot >Card is loud due to running a bit hot.... It's not so loud that I'd say it's a deal breaker and It's not very audible over the normal noise in our living room, but my build was silent before this, so i notice it more i guess.
Overall Review: >I believe the card throttles due to a combination of not enough power as well as too much heat being generated from in-adequate cooling, and too many volts running through the card. Hopefully with some tweaking to fan profile, increasing power and undervolting a tiny bit, the card will not throttle anymore and the temps will go down a bit. And even if I do just keep it at default crimson settings, and just let it do its thing and throttle a bit, it's still able to push 1440p panel really well for gaming so no matter what I'm happy with it. > Don't expect to be able to max every new game out at WHD rez, but trust me this card will give you a very pleasing 1440p experience, you wont have to turn down settings by much if at all. 60+ no prob with AA & very high or ultra settings for Doom, Project Cars, FC4, Division. Power draw for card is out of spec. I think its been blown waaay out of proportion. It's actually a common occurrence for both AMD and Nvidia to release cards that draw too much power. I think you would need to be gaming @ 4k, filling up all the Vram, and overclocking, and have a low end mobo full of dirt and hair to worry about frying the pci slot. Under normal circumstances its nothing to worry about. And AMD will fix it via update soon anyway. This card is perfect for anyone with a GTX 960 or below looking to upgrade and doesnt mind the fact that the card is reference and runs a bit hot and loud. You will see a very nice boost. Also perfect for someone wanting to try gaming @ 1440p, especially with a freesync monitor. Bottom Line - AMD put out a really solid card, get it you wont regret.
