Question 1

Would this mouse pad work well with a g500s? I know some laser sensors have trouble with soft mouse pads but I don't know it that's the case here.

I had no issues what so ever with tracking and laser mice. I use both the G500 and the MX518. Again, I mentioned earlier that if you are gaming on this pad is very soft  and the edges are NOT reinforced and come apart easy. I wore through the top layer rather quickly. If just using for regular use, this is a good pad. I cut it up into smaller pads and use them at work.

Question 2

Some mouse pads, I have heard, you can actually wash in your dishwasher at home. Is this one of those? What is the best way to clean it?

XTRAC doesn't say specifically that it can be cleaned in a washing machine. It's a HUGE mouse pad, so lots of space to spill stuff on. When it gets dirty (very rarely) its either a brush it right off mess or use a damp towel mess. Spots seem to come right off with the damp towel. I've had mine since October and still looks brand new. Hope this helps.
