It has a power supply that plugs into a 110v outlet. But it actually runs on 12v.

Can I view this remotely using an app on my smartphone or tablet?

You can view your cameras remotely using an app for Android or iOS. However, I needed a firmware update which was only available by calling Zmodo before it worked properly. I've successfully used the android app on a Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 and the iOS app on an iPhone 3GS. The apps are limited and only allowed viewing the cameras and no control of recording or playback.

audio input is listed. is recording available? are there any users of this feature?

I purchased the optional microphone and cable required to see how it works.  I can pick up and record normal voice communication from 100 ft. away if the outdoor surroundings are fairly quiet.  It will record crickets from miles away!  Yes, it does work great, clear voice recordings, and easy to set up. 
One note however: Be sure your local laws allow voice recording.  On several legal postings, I had to delete the voice recording as it is considered an invasion of privacy and can get you in very hot water.  I never could understand why video is permitted in surveillance work {in most cases} but audio is not permitted and is actually against the law.
It must be some liberal thing!
