Can the camera be mounted to the ceiling without having the image rotated upside down?

Just received one of these sets a few weeks ago and finally getting time to install around the house. Still a lot of details to work out on how I want it configured.  As for your question - I have all of my cameras mounted outside around the perimeter of the house.  I had a few locations that really needed to be supported from either a ceiling surface or a vertical surface that was going to have a restricted view.  The solution I found was to remove the shield screw from the top, and then connect the mounting bracket to this attachment point.  Two things to mention - I couldn't find any mention of this technique and I only did this under covered areas.  (Not exposed to direct elements)  
Anyhow, the threads match up on either top or bottom mount.

If purchased the KDC8 YARUZ8ZN without hard drive, does it come with software ?

Yes it does, mini cd supplied or of course you can download latest version From Zmodo. Full Suite of software. Easy set up, can view or control remotely HD not needed as you can record on any pc connected to the network. I added a HD just as my personal preference ie another back-up option etc... Software also includes players to view .264 files

Can I view the cameras from my smart phone or tablet?

Yes, they can, but any camera system you buy will require a bit of advanced network setup to get it to work. It will require advanced router settings and a DDNS service.

is the remote monitoring over a IP address?

Accepted Answer

On your internal network you connect via the IP address assigned to the appliance.  To connect from the internet you will need to use port forwarding on your Wifi router and connect to the assigned IP of your modem from Cable company or ISP.  OF course if you don't have a static IP from ISP you can register with some free DNS service to permit using a name instead of IP

No HDD. Can I add a HDD myself?

Yes you may, up to 2TB.  I'd suggest getting a HD designed for 24x7 use, for longer life.

A 2 terabyte hardrive is cabale, but this thing only has room for one hardrive where some of bigger ones have room for 2. Sata drive capable harddrive is good. Hd recording well worth the 100$2terabyte hardrive. Comes without screws. So u install hardrive and  4 holes for screws threw bottom to hold hardrive in place. Then 6 screws outside dvr to pop everythibg back into place. Only thing fairly confusing is this icloud storage crap but works just as well portforwarding ports ob router and vmeye super app for android and iphone work with the portforwarding.

These cameras have to be wired to the recording unit?  Is there a system where there are wireless cameras?

My system is wired to the recording unit you'll have to check with the manufacture or do a google search on such add-on option. Or look for a wireless camera DVR system

Can you extend the Video cables?   I would like to place one in my detached garage which will be more than 60ft from the DVR.

If so what product would you recommend?

You can extend, but it is recommended to use 1 longer low loss cable instead of daisy chaining more than 1set of cables, and depending on the length you may need to power the cameras locally to the camera, or get a stronger power supply..

if you power the cameras with the eight 60 ft cables provided. what are the 2 power supplies for?

Each power supply powers 4 cameras. Within the kit is 3 boxes. 1st box DVR, mouse remote, DVR power cable ect (no hard drive). Then two identical boxes each containing 4 cameras, 4-60ft power/video cables, 4 camera mounts, 1-power supply, 1-4 way power splitter, and mounting hardware.  Hope that answers your question. There is a model that comes with a DVR rated hard drive.  DVR rated hard drive seems critical.
