4 out of 5 eggsNice little device

Pros: Easy to insert/remove drive
Pretty darn fast on USB3 ports
No problems for me under Win7/64

Cons: USB cable is short.

Other Thoughts: I had no problems installing a drive and getting it to be recognized and operate. At first I thought I was going to have trouble with the lid, but when a drive is in place it lines up fine. The short cable is a bit of a pain as the only USB3 ports on my desktop machine are on the rear panel. The good news is that it's a standard port (micro USB, I believe) and Newegg sells compatible longer cables.

1 out of 5 eggsDidn't work

Pros: n/a

Cons: Plugged it in for the first time, Win 8 says its installing drivers for USB to ATA/ATAPI device. Unsuccessful. Okay... disk management does not show the device. Opened Samsung Magician, then disk mgt again and it's there. Quick format? Nope. Freezes during formatting. Drive totally unresponsive yet hangs computer during shutdown process. Eventually got a drive letter assigned, but becomes unresponsive almost immediately upon trying to access. Just a total waste of time. Incidentally, I installed the same type of drive successfully using a Sabrent enclosure and I will be returning to Sabrent to replace this one.

Other Thoughts: The marketing firm for these guys is voting down all the critical reviews. That should be a warning sign.

4 out of 5 eggsEasy to use

Pros: Easy to open and swap drives.

Cons: USB 3.0 cable could be a little longer.

Other Thoughts: About 50 MB/sec transfer speeds using an old 5400 rpm notebook drive. Can't complain.

2 out of 5 eggs1out of 2

Pros: 1 works great with fast transfer rates.

Cons: Tried 2 hard drives and both wouldn't read, but read fine in the other enclosure. 1 drive worked until cover was installed which actually helps push the drive into the sata connector. Poor connector assembly.

Other Thoughts: Won't bother with RMA because of low price and working too many hours to bother.

5 out of 5 eggsSecond time's the charm

Pros: Affordable external enclosure that turns a spare HDD into a nice File Recovery backup drive.

Cons: I had to RMA the first one, it was causing blue screens on my system. I didn't dock a star because of Newegg's Premier return policy, and because the replacement works at the five star level.

Other Thoughts: This enclosure is so inexpensive that I wouldn't have bothered returning it if I hadn't had the free return shipping as a Premier member. I don't care who builds them, sometimes these things can be twitchy.

1 out of 5 eggsDisappointed

Pros: Design

Cons: Does not work. Bought two of these and had 6 2.5" HDD's to use. Whatever I'm about to type applies to both of the enclosures I bought. Ran into many problems with the computer not being able to recognize the drive. When it is recognized, the drives would show up as a path letter and can't be opened or formatted. When I finally got the computer to recognize the drives, after unplugging it and reinserting the drives into the enclosures, I used Roadkill's Diskwipe from the Hiren's CD to fully erase drive and formatted them to NTFS. Computer then sees the drives and does make it usable... until I decide to eject the drive and test it out by reinserting it. I get a 20% success rate of when the computer recognizes the drive. I tested it out on every port on my laptop and desktop. Works at random times with very little success. I believe the SATA controller in between the HDD and the wire is what is designed poorly. The best connection between a hard drive and a USB port are the ones that involve a direct connection without a SATA controller in between. Something like the Apricorn cables with a SATA connector on one end and a USB connector on the other end works best.

Other Thoughts: Will be returning these to get an enclosure without a SATA controller as a middle man.

1 out of 5 eggsGood until it wasn't

Pros: No tools needed; worked well for 10 months.

Cons: Apparently not built to last: I purchased the enclosure mid May, 2013. Here it is mid March, 2014 and it has died. It began to spontaneously reboot yesterday afternoon, and then more frequently today until it finally and completely stopped working. The drive itself is fine (I checked).

Other Thoughts: The enclosure was priced very low...and, you know, you don't always get what you pay for, but this time I did, I guess ;-/

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect

Pros: Feels secure; good fit and finish even though it is mostly plastic. Includes a flexible spacer that could be used to prevent vibration.
Instantly recognized, and drivers loaded (Win7).
Most important, it works, and seems fast. See Other Thoughts.

Cons: None found.

Other Thoughts: I used this to clone all partitions of the factory HDD in my new laptop to a 256GB SSD. I'd also added some applications, but it was still less than 100GB total. I started the clone before dinner, and it was done by the time I finished. I mounted the SSD internally, and it worked perfectly. Now, I'll probably use this case with another drive as an external backup.

5 out of 5 eggsLove it - Easy to Use - Toolless

Pros: I absolutely love this enclosure. Not many companies make a tool less enclosure that is as easy as this guy is to use. The construction exceeded my expectations on build quality and how well the device fits together for the price.

Cons: Haven't found a con yet. I have used this to connect several different drives now.
