5 out of 5 eggsFive-Year Warranty

Pros: I absolutely love this motherboard. I still can't believe it has a 5-year warranty. It seems to be very well made. You really don't see that much quality in electronics these days. The BIOS is very user friendly and it really supports almost everything that I wanted in a motherboard.

Cons: I'm seriously having a difficult time thinking up a Con for this motherboard. The only negative thing that I can think of, which really isn't a big deal (more of a wish), is that the top USB ports aren't USB 3.0. I would have rather have the top ports be 3.0 and the lower ports be 2.0. I found the top ports are more easily accessible, and I use them more often.

Other Thoughts: I would recommend you purchase the Sabertooth Z97 motherboard now that it's available. With technology, you should always buy the newest available standard.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Motherboard

Pros: I decided to do a review after owning the motherboard for almost a year. Overall the construction is very good, the armor does make the PCB more stable and rigid. The back aluminum plate does add cooling to it.

Average system temp is around 36 C, which is pretty good. The bios is very easy to use and supports very easy overclocking. The RAM is overclocked to 2000 MHz without issues Corsair CMZ32GX3M4X1866C10 with the CPU Intel 4770K at 4.4 GHz.

There is a pretty good support of multiple I/Os and on the rear side. Overall I would have to say this motherboard is very fast and capable, esp. given the price.

Cons: Now here are some issues I have with it. The first issue is the on-board fans are pretty much useless and extremely noisy. I've tried adjusting profiles with the Thermal Radar and it just always seems to make a really loud whining and grinding noise. As a result, I had to unplug the fans. Just to mention, the fans don't really pull to much air.

The armor, is pretty useful as it does provide rigidity to the motherboard and does help when using heavy graphics cards (I have the Asus Direct CU II GTX 770). However, it does provide maintenance issues. It collects and traps lots of dust. Additionally, it does make removing the PCIe components more difficult and I have to use a flat head screw driver to push down the release lever as the armor blocks my finger.

Other Thoughts: Overall the motherboard very good. Great build and it stays very cool. The plastic can be annoying from time to time. The most important thing that needs to be fixed is the really loud mini fans.

5 out of 5 eggsASUS is always BOSS!!

Pros: Easy to use BIOS, easy to setup hardware, easy to remove armor (when needed), excellent durability.

Cons: The cooling assistant fan beneath the proc socket would make a lot of noise from time to time.. shouldn't disable it EVER, but I was able to set it to kick on high when the temp gets high enough. No more annoying whir sounds.

Other Thoughts: I build and repair computers all day every day at work and ASUS is the only brand my company will even bother with. Others just aren't worth the trouble! This is my favorite 1150 board!! I've messed around with it, installed new video cards, new RAM, and have even swapped chassis twice. It's always worked without a hitch!!

5 out of 5 eggsFavorite Motherboard

Pros: I love this board. It is by far my favorite motherboard that I have owned. All of its features worked perfectly no problem. It has a 5 year warranty through ASUS. The thermal armor is really neat and makes the board feel really sturdy. It also gives safe places to hold the board. I really liked how many PCI slot the board has and has allowed me to have a ton options. The mother board stays super cool ( I am using the mini fans). The remote go feature is really cool. The onboard audio is of a really good quality compared to some other boards I have used. The bios and the utilities the board comes with are really well done considering it is an ASUS board. Has tons of USB and USB 3.0. The lights that troubleshoot problems with each major part is really useful. The addded thermal sensors are also handy. I could go on and on about this board. I have no complaints at all of this board.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: The fan speed settings for the mini fans is needed to make them quiet. They can be loud when they run under load. The app to use the remote go makes you go through some hoops since they updated it. Really sexy motherboard. For other builds I would absolutely get this again or the Z97.

4 out of 5 eggsDoesn't Hold Time

Pros: It runs all the hardware I need it to fine enough.

Cons: It doesn't hold the time, after the on-board watch battery dies. This can be easily replaced, but will need replacing once every few months.

1 out of 5 eggsLoyal Asus Customer for Years, NOT any more.

Pros: Looks Nice.

Cons: Bought three of these MB and installed a SSD drive as the boot drive. Seemed fine until in Device Manager I noticed it had been installed as SCSI drive and the SSD speed was gone. tried another board, had three, used different SSD and completely changed all components from first build, same result, tried third wth again different components even went to a mechanical WD Raptor HD same result even noticed my DVD drive as a SCSI. If you have several hours you can waste your time calling Tech Support. After you have explained the same problem to 7 or 8 different people who have a different runaround you may get them to agree to replace it. But since they say it is not a problem with their board you will pay again, shipping and ins. so they can keep your "new board" and send you a refurbished with the same problem. They have quickly come out with the new "Z97" but don't get too exited because as I was told a new updated model does not mean it is a upgrade to the previous just a bigger number. So you are now stuck with a defective $250.00 MB. They seem to be under new management because this is not the old Asus I delt with for years this one has gone to get your money and if you want to try again they will be glad to sell you a new one because the first three I bought are now my problem and something I am doing wrong. After 30 years of Pc building I have gotten less able to diagnose a problem. But I do know when it is time to make a change in who I buy from. Tech Support is now a joke, just not a funny one. Waste your time and money If you have it to waste. I don't so I am hopefully giving you reading this a chance to do something else. I got burned but you do not have to.

Manufacturer Response:

Greetings,

I am sorry that you had issues with our customer support.

The motherboard should not have any issues with SATA drives. As a suggestion, please make sure to install the latest hard drive drivers for your storage devices. This should resolve the problems you are having with the system. Should you need any assistance, please let me know through email. 3765950.

Regards,

1 out of 5 eggsF/u

Pros: At this point none.

Cons: This is a follow up on an earlier review. Initially I had issues with the AI suite III and mobo software issues.

More recently started getting blue screens and was forced to go in to the bios and disable all the memory bells and whistles. This curred the blue screeds for about a week.
All seems ok then out of the blue, while working on the computer, nothing heavy just a word document it died. Display went dead. Mother board just fried, and it was not a temperature problem as it had been running a very cool 32-34 C.

Cant stress it enough stay away.

Even if I get this board replaced I will not be happy, as I will be always waiting for it to die. At this point I would rather go with a different brand altogether. I have never had so many issues with a mobo in the past

Manufacturer Response:
