Sabertooth Z87

Bolsters Boards Against Bending Damage

TUF Fortifier adds a strong backplate so the motherboard doesn't buckle under the weight of heavy graphics cards and CPU coolers. Reduced PCB bowing and bending means an end to potentially damaged circuitry.

With a thermal pad directing heat away from VRM and other key components, TUF Fortifier combines great strength and cooling.

Thermal Armor with Flow Valve
Sabertooth Z87 Total Airflow-Boosting Heat Dissipation

Covers the entire board and features dual fans to direct cool air to critical parts and dissipate heat faster for better stability. Drastically boosts airflow and cooling with dual fans and a smart shunt design that draws hot air away from critical components. Air power is improved with a back I/O fan that pulls in cold air and expels even more heat. Exclusive flow valve design controls heatpipe air contact, better-utilizing liquid cooling setups.
Thermal Radar 2
Complete System Cooling, Customized Fan Tuning

With multiple onboard sensors and bundled thermistor cables, you can monitor temperatures in real-time in areas around key components other than the motherboard itself. Customizable fan control gives you the flexibility of adjusting fan speeds manually and achieving optimal thermal tuning with one click.

"Safe & Stable!" Guardian Angel
Dust Defenders
Repel Dust, Extend Lifespan

TUF design protects back I/O ports, expansion and memory slots, plus critical connectors from dust and particles that degrade system performance over time if left unchecked. With a filter to ensure the back I/O fan doesn't draw dust into the board, Dust Defenders guard against dust build up, helping your PC perform in an optimal and stable state longer.

5 out of 5 eggsSexy Mobo

Pros: Can't say i know everything about this board i really just got it because of the great reviews and for the looks. This thing is sexy simple as that very clean black protective cover. I don't use half the extra stuff but still this Mobo does exactly what it's suppose too. ASUS never disappoints.

Cons: None.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I use this for gaming and virtualization and it handles both without any trouble at all.

5 out of 5 eggsThose little fans are LOUD

Pros: Sturdy, works a dream, lots of options, friendly BIOS

Cons: The optional fans are super noisy.

Other Thoughts: I spent a week trying to figure out why my computer sounded like a jet engine. Finally, on a lark, I unplugged the little bitty optional fans that come with the board, and sure enough, the sound was cut to less than half. Unless you desperately need the extra cooling, I would not recommend bothering with them. It's a cool concept, but not needed.

Otherwise, everything is working just fine. I love the PCI covers that match the covers of the board, it makes the whole thing look super slick. The BIOS is friendly and easy to use, and overall I am satisfied.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat board

Pros: 1) heat zone monitoring-comes with thermal sensors at CPU/gpu/ram/and more along with great monitoring and fan control software
2) great armor plating look and on board fAns to disperse heat-no thermal sensors have read any temps above the 30's C.
3) $30 rebate is awesome

Cons: 1) it wasn't cheaper
2) it didn't install itself

Other Thoughts: Asus boards are great quality and have never failed me yet previous board still running great after 5 years just had to upgrade to a new socket for newer processors

4 out of 5 eggsGood enough

Pros: A relatively nice motherboard that seems to perform well. Probably more geared to people wanting to overclock than those of us looking for a solid stock system board.

Cons: Some awkwardness getting it to boot a USB thumb drive at first as the BIOS does not default to enabling USB devices for boot. Took me a while to figure out how to get it to boot a USB3 stick. The tiny fans that mount in the plastic "Thermal Armor" cover create an unreasonable amount of noise. The plastic cover makes mounting a non-Intel cooler (Noctua) a little awkward. I removed the cover from mine. The back-plate cover for the USB/Audio/Ethernet is mis-aligned by about 1/8". If I seat it in the case the ports just do not line up. There was no BIOS setup for RAID on this board. My other Z87 motherboard supports RAID in the "BIOS" which was nice.

Other Thoughts: If you like the dust cover and noise isn't an issue for you then this is a great board.

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible Customer Service

Pros: Nice specs on paper

Cons: Asus Customer Service and issues with support. This model board has an issue with Power Supplies. Asus refuses to attempt to duplicate the problem. The issue is with power supply specifications. According to Asus, this board will work with a version 2.1 or higher power supply. What I have found is the only power supply I can use is a less than $25 V2.0 SYSLOGIC. I have tried an XFX PRO 650W, and a Corsair CX430. Both of which when the system tries to resume from standby, it will power itself off. I have spent hours - I'd guess in the neighborhood of 8-12 - trying to resolve this issue. I sent video proof of my findings, and am still getting a run around. I have not been this disappointed in any technology companies level of service since the mid 90's. I personally would not recommend ever doing business with Asus. I've spent several thousand on their products between laptops and motherboards in the last couple years. The one time I have a problem and need help, I cannot get any.

1 out of 5 eggsBIG MISTAKE

Pros: Tuff amour

Cons: Asus and their so called warrantee

Other Thoughts: It took 2 of these motherboards being sent to me to get one that worked. Both of them had RTC issues. The second one finally took the settings and lasted until the day before Thankgiving. THen the BIOS started acting up and the clock would lock up and act weird. When I tried to reset the bios via the clrrtc jumper ( with power off and disconnected) the system refused to boot to the BIOS. It hangs on the boot error LED inside. The power tries 2 times to get a boot going and freezes at the logo screen and will not let me into the bios at all.
I have tried the direct bios button, the bios flashback, and even replaced the power supply for the whole machine but nothing will let me gain access to the BIOS.
I tried about 10 times to start a repair or replacement order online and your website would also crash. I had no choice but to file the escalation form
With the amount of money I spent on this board, I expect you to honor your promise and the 5 year warrantee you put on this thing. With no posted phone numbers for customers to call and a website that doesn't work, how do you expect customers to get satisfaction?
I have been a long time buyer of Asus products but, that has now changed. With the quality I have seen on this motherboard and the problems I have had to go through to reach you folks, I'll be darned(edit) if I'll ever own another Asus product again in my life. Since I'm a retired IT pro who still gets asked about equipment for corporate level IT work, I'll be certain to recommend they never buy Asus products as your company seems to be folding under the stress of bad service and/or design or management.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Board

Pros: I had only use ASUS motherboards for years, having said that this is my first board with TUF Technology, and I have to say it works beautifully, really silent simple to setup the Bios is simple and very functional.

Cons: I wish it could run triple channel memory but with some good G Skills will do

Other Thoughts: ASUS is top of the line, I had use them for at least 10 years and I will continue to do so

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: It runs well with my GTX 770, and fits well in my case. all the little fans look kinda cool too.

Cons: for a first timer, when it comes to building a pc, the board looked pretty intimidating, but with a little brain power, its not THAT bad.
