5 out of 5 eggsBetter in the end

Pros: -Tiny!
-Built-in Wifi and Ethernet port
-USB 2.0 Slot
-MicroSD Slot
-A/V port
-Super Low power consumption that there is no ON/OFF button
-Easy firmware updates
-Wii-like wireless remote technology
-HD 1080P output
-Plays 100% full HD 1080p movies right off a flash drive with files such as .mkv and .mp4 with no lag at all.
-Netflix, hulu, and many other streaming services which many are free.
-Games like angry birds
-Cool themes and wallpapers to choose from
-A media center solution so small it fits right in the palm of your hands.

Cons: -No youtube app :( I heard they used to have it at first but was taken out. I also read that there was a way around it. (Research).

Other Thoughts: Will surely need to be updated from first use in order to have the latest firmware and software for best performance. I installed a 4GB MicroSD in it to perform better by caching on the memory card. All I really needed it for was for Netflix app and to play mp4 and mkv 1080p movies right off the flash drive so I don't need to keep plugging my desktop or laptop into the tv every time we want to watch a movie. Soon we will be using the Roku with a 1080p 3D projector.

3 out of 5 eggsAwesome, BUT...

Pros: Easy use; easy to install. Your mother can use a Roku; your grandfather can install and configure one.

Bluetooth remote (no line-of-sight needed). Built-in WiFi, but also has RJ45 ethernet jack.

"Just works."

Cons: Does NOT support multiple profiles in Netflix. And there's no update for the Roku 2 in the pipeline to change this. Ever.

Yes, I took off *two* stars for this. This is a major usability problem that's doubly annoying because Roku 3 does support multiple profiles.

Other Thoughts: The more experience I get with Roku players, the more I like them. They do not do well with playing files from local storage, but for anything streaming, they're awesome. Pair them with a Plex Media Server (any old computer will do—just install Xubuntu and Plex) and they can play any video or audio file you have.

I also have a competing brand of media player that does play local files well. But it freezes up on a regular basis and must be power-cycled. This Roku has never needed to be rebooted, restarted or whatever.

4 out of 5 eggsOk for the price.

Pros: Refurb pricing.

Cons: Not stable.

Other Thoughts: I have purchased just about every generation of the Roku they have put out. I have 4 of them in operation in my own as of right now.

This one is obviously a return model as it has issues. It will sometimes freeze during playback and reboot. Sometimes it will reboot while a video is paused.

Happens maybe once or twice a week.

I guess you get what you pay for. I paid about half price for the product and got one that's glitchy. Next purchase I'll guy back to buying new ones.

Luck of the draw with refurb. Your luck may be better or worse.

5 out of 5 eggsVery cool gadget

Pros: Easy to install, Control easy to pair, easy account set up, tons of free channels, picture very clear @ 1080p, angry birds works well with remote, can be hooked up through av system with hdmi pass through.

Cons: Having to put in credit card info is some what of a surprise but you can delete payment information after activation if you want to. Batteries were dead for the remote, not a big problem. Would have liked an additional remote included. With all the channels, the guide can get a little confusing. No power off switch.

Other Thoughts: All in all a great little unit. My Roku looked brand new in a generic box. Still had the protective plastic around the unit. I was up and running within a 1/2 hour. With so many channels it's a pro/con on sifting through to find what you may want. Instructions were easy to follow although you will want to look on line for additional information. Roku's chat was very helpful. I did notice some pixelating on History Channel's Vikings but I am still in the learn faze. Currently hooked up on a wireless 30m download connection. Well worth the price.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks great except for Plex

Pros: Good for streaming content.

Cons: When connecting to my Plex server on my local network I would get long ... LOOOOOONG buffering times. I think its a big thing with Roku and Plex not getting along very well. Got a Chromecast and it works perfectly though. Plex was the sole reason I purchased this though, so its worthless to me and I sold it on Craig's List.

Other Thoughts: Great little device - just didn't do what I needed it to very well. I would recommend for anyone wanting to watch Netflix, Hulu, etc.

5 out of 5 eggsRemotes are not dead, just not paired

Pros: Bluetooth, LAN option, price.

Cons: Did not apply to me, but seems instructions are not being included in some orders

Other Thoughts: I would guess that 99% of the complaints about dead remotes are not valid. They need to be paired. Unfortunately, if one does not get the instructions, they do not know. However, inquiring minds would Google it and find the solution.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic after syncing Controller!!

Pros: Tons of Channels!!! Streams wonderfully! Fast operation with Roku's new menu system.

Cons: This unit looks like it wont ever get Youtube. Also Not a bad thing but controller wasn't synced right out of the box. After reading instructions and getting the remote synced (all of 30 seconds) the device works great!!

Other Thoughts: Great little streaming player!!! came packaged well and easy to setup. I run this using wifi and it works great! I have DSL 10mbps download and I never see a buffer screen ever. PLEASE READ MANUAL TO GET YOUR REMOTE TO WORK IF IT DOES NOT WORK OUT OF THE BOX LIKE MINE DIDNT. EASY TO PAIR IT WITH THE ROKU BOX. TAKES SECONDS TO DO.

5 out of 5 eggsVery nice device

Pros: Very nice device, works great via WiFi to bedroom where we don't have a cable connection. My wife is a bit of an insomniac and uses it to watch NetFlix at night - she has been very pleased.

Cons: It always uses the first profile on NetFlix, no choice to choose different profile. Can lag a bit when fast-forwarding or moving between channels, but overall performance is good. Streaming of content is excellent.

Other Thoughts: Bought as a refurb, but it appeared new to me.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Has a wired connection. I have a Logitech Revue and a Chromecast.
Roku is my favorite, more stuff and easy to use.
You do need a good ethernet connection to use it. We bit the bullet and got a Comcast business connection . Streams three movies easily.

Cons: Had the model with WiFi and got tired of the sloppy connection.
The WiFi version has the better layout on the remote but this is minor.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great, can't complain

Pros: The Roku is my solution to home media streaming. I use it for Netflix and it is the perfect interface for streaming media from my PC using Plex, as well. Does both pretty flawlessly.

This was a refurb on sale but the product is fine and works great. No strange marks or scuffs on the box or remote. Both look & work like new.

Cons: Every once in a while it will be sluggish for seemingly no reason when I am browsing items through the Plex app or loading a video. This is pretty rare, though, and even rarer are the times actual video playback stutters, freezes or is otherwise interrupted. Happens so rarely it is not worth subtracting an egg from the rating.

I had a little bit of trouble syncing the remote with the player as it did not work right out of the box. A glance at the owner's manual solved everything, though, and it has worked fine ever since.

Other Thoughts: Love, love, love Roku. This is my second one. I have tried many different methods of streaming media in my house including blu-ray players, PS3, Xbox 360, and laptops. Roku is hands-down the easiest, cheapest and most efficient solution.
