5 out of 5 eggsGreat drives

This review is from: Western Digital Blue WD10EZEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Great Speed
Low Noise
All worked out of the box

Cons: Seek time opening directories with lots of files

Other Thoughts: Purchased 6 for Raid 5 media storage. I get 600 - 800 meg reads and 500+ meg writes to the array. Only thing I don't like is the delay when I open a folder containing 100+ media files.

5 out of 5 eggsThanks for another Great one WD

This review is from: Western Digital Blue WD10EZEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Hasn't failed yet (fingers crossed)
Quiet Operation
Runs pretty cool so far
100 Mb/s + transfer rates

Cons: Bare Bones - No cabling included
Just don't fail, please.

Other Thoughts: I've used HDDs from many companies and had more than a couple fail on me. It always happens fast, so when you think it may be happening to you, Backup like crazy and brace yourself! Backup anyway . . .

I am only using this as a secondary "data" drive as I picked up a 500 gb SSD for the primary. That baby boots windows in about 10 seconds. SSD is the future and smokes the WD in raw speed. But until prices come down, I am more than happy to pick up a TB or three of good ole' magnetic spinners.

Western Dig is still a solid brand, I have a TB green drive as well and they've usually lasted as long as the computer and perform well with minimal data crunching noises and spinning whirs.

1 out of 5 eggsDead drive

This review is from: Western Digital Blue WD10EZEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: cheap

Cons: I have installed a lot of disc drives over the years, and never had a dead one until this one, which has serious issues. Windows wouldn't format it. Spinrite 6 (a disk recovery tool) warned that catastrophic failure could happen at any moment. I waited over 30 days before installed it, so Newegg wouldn't replace it. Looks like I have a boat anchor.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks

This review is from: Western Digital Blue WD10EZEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: -7200 RPM, 1TB, 3.5", Western Digital
-Great 2nd hard drive for storage

Cons: -Not as fast as an SSD, but at less than fifty bucks who's complaining?

Other Thoughts: -Get an SSD, even if it's a small one, for your OS & basic programs. it's worth it.

1 out of 5 eggsPurchase at Your Own Risk

This review is from: Western Digital Blue WD10EZEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Works great as a paperweight!

Cons: Gave up after 2 drives arrived DOA.

Other Thoughts: These drives caused a serious delay in a new PC build. The first one somehow spent over a week after arriving at my local post office via UPS bouncing around different locations instead of being delivered to my door.

When it finally did arrive, it showed up fine in the BIOS but wouldn't communicate properly. I thought maybe it got damaged during shipping because of all the extra handling (the box was pretty beat up), so I exchanged it for another. Newegg made me pay the shipping cost, which I thought should have been covered by USPS or UPS due to the delays.

The second drive was pretty much the same. I wasted several more hours trying to get it working, but in the end it wouldn't format or pass the SMART test in Western Digital's Data Lifeguard application.

So for now my new PC is running from an old laptop hard drive. I guess eventually I'll get a new, working drive and find out how good this machine is.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome bang for your buck

This review is from: Western Digital Blue WD10EZEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: This drive works great. Pretty speedy for being a Blue drive, and runs very cool in my setup. Can't beat that price tag, either.

Cons: None. Unless you somehow miss the bit about this being a "bare" drive and not coming with any cables or screws, but for most people this probably won't be an issue.

Other Thoughts: I've been using WD for years now and I've always been satisfied with the quality and performance of their drives. Awesome stuff ;)
