5 out of 5 eggsGreat switch

Pros: Great performing switch
Great Price
Full featured

Cons: None
UI could be nicer...

Netgear support isn't really helpful, they're nice, but not that helpful.

Other Thoughts: I also had the issue of this thing losing my settings on reboot.
I called Netgear, was transferred to 3 different techs, during my long hold times I was messing around and fixed it myself.
Here's what you do:
Set all your configs to what you want and apply them
THIS IS IMPORTANT:
You then have to click the Maintenance Tab
And there's a link on the left that says "Save Configuration"
"Saving all applied changes will cause all changes to
configuration panels that were applied, but not saved,
to be saved, thus retaining their new values across a
system reboot."
There's a checkbox next to this check it and click apply and you're done.

5 out of 5 eggsNice Giga switch

Pros: I am by no means a pro when it comes to switches. This switch has worked great from day one. No issues or problems with the installed.

Cons: None yet

Other Thoughts: The free PS3 increased the value and made for a lot of fun.

4 out of 5 eggsBlue or Purple

Pros: A feature rich Gig E switch. Easy to use webinterface. Price. Color makes it stand out in my rack.

Cons: Will not remember any user customizations after unplugging the switch.(See Below) The fans make this a noisy switch.

Other Thoughts: For the price and the features it is a good deal. Now that they have the free PS3 it is even more worth it. I had a copier that freaked out and messed up the arp table. Could not find a way to clear it in the user interface had to unplug and replug. Lesson learned use the backup feature.

4 out of 5 eggslittle blue beast

Pros: Cheap 48 port managed gigabit switch.

Cons: SSH (SSL?) doesn't work -- based on fressh -- and simply causes a crash. Plus, configuring ssh/ssl is completely undocumented. Earlier firmware revisions lacked the ability to clear the mac tables thus require a reboot after any topology altering configurations (like creating port groups, vlans, etc.) NTP "broadcast" mode doesn't work at all. Unicast mode barely works. Firmware upgrades *always* erase the configuration -- not once has one kept any part of it's previous configuration.

Other Thoughts: As long as you leave it alone after initial configuration, the things are solid as a brick. I've had several in production for >2 years. It definately has it's quirks, but it gets the job done cheaply at the cost of some initial frustrations.

1 out of 5 eggsBuggy Switch!

Pros: Cheap, 48-port gigabit ethernet switch. Works great in the default configuration.

Cons: Our switch failed in incredibly unique and interesting ways when we attempted to set up tagged/trunked 802.1q vlans. We'd reboot the switch with the exact same configuration and it would start working again.

Other Thoughts: Yikes. I've had good luck with lower-end Netgear products in the past, but this switch just doesn't cut it. We can't have the switch die in production when we attempt to add a VLAN
