1 out of 5 eggsNo Support and Poor Quality

Pros: The color is white and easy to match with a room

Cons: I spent 2 hours configuring and 1.5 hours on the phone with support. In the end I was told, "sometimes it will work and sometimes it will not work." The GUI is missing a lot of information. The firmware upgrade took six tries, before it would start. Support was no help, they do not listen, do not understood, and don't call you back. Online support never did get back to me.

Other Thoughts: paying for returning this product is not fun.

Manufacturer Response:

3 out of 5 eggsJust ok

Pros: Installed ok, no issues during setup. Like most IP cameras.

Cons: Quality just average. Works ok for my applicaiton, one might not be able to ID a person from +30 ft.

Other Thoughts: for under $200 it's just ok. If I had it to do over I would put my money on a higher priced camera. If one doesn't need higher quality picture it will do.

Manufacturer Response:

4 out of 5 eggsEggxpert Review

Pros: The software for the PC and smartphone worked flawlessly. Nice not to have to setup Dynamic DNS services or router port forwarding. I like the night view over daytime, the picture is clearest in night mode. Solid build for its price point. Motion control is good. Very clear video in night mode. Wifi range better than expected, installed the cam at the furthest point in my home from the router without issue.

Cons: My fish tank puts out a lot of background noise and the mic. was not able to filter it out (heave static), audio should have been better. Color mode video not as crisp as night time. Remote speakers for two way communications would have been nice to have. Digital zoom is not much use do to the poor video quality.

Other Thoughts: I've tested this cam for several weeks and like the packaged software for the PC and smartphone. Never had a connectivity issue to the cam. Good price point but I'm willing to pay more if the cam offered an SD card and speakers for two way communications. I don't think the panning sound is an issue for an entry level cam. I have an $850 cam which offers silent panning and great video quality, expect to pay more if that's what you're looking for.

5 out of 5 eggsFollow up

Pros: Still working great after a month or two. I've come to really enjoy having this camera. It has come in handy for quite a few things. Primarily keeping an eye on a pet recovering from surgery while I was at work/away. After setting the camera up to auto switch between day/night mode, the smartphone app is a fantastic tool to have. I couldn't recommend this enough to anyone who can dream up a use for the camera.

Cons: None since my original thoughts on my first review

4 out of 5 eggsNice Nanny Cam

Pros: The camera has a nice weight to it and feels very well built.

Setup for the camera was very easy. A guided setup with pictures takes you through all the steps no matter which connection type you choose.

Night vision works very good, in complete darkness the camera can easily pick up people and objects with clarity.

The web applet is seems very well designed, it is filled with tons of different options for controlling your camera.

One option I really liked was motion tracking, not many camera's feature this. It easily tracked my movements even in darkness.

Came with a metal wall mount which I did not use but no instructions on how to mount the camera to it were included.

Mobile apps are provided for free for either iOS or Andorid. It also comes with a full version of the SecurView Pro software rather than a trial like many other companies do.

Cons: Power and WLAN activity LED's are too bright., but they can be turned off,

Camera is a bit on the large side and tilt and panning the camera make alot of noise.

SecurView Pro software is over complicated, I could not get a video feed from the camera over Wi-Fi even with the correct settings. Only direct ethernet cable connection was working.

Wi-Fi seems to have a lot quicker refresh rate compared to a direct ethernet cable connection.

Mobile app(s) are buggy. The installation software recommends the trendnet clouldview app however this application is very minimal in terms of features. The trendnet securview app features alot more options and lets you tilt and pan the camera however this also suffers from bugs and force closing on android operating system.

Not actually a "cloud camera" since there is no server recording the video feed unless you set a home computer to do so.

Zoom is lack luster at best.

Other Thoughts: I would have liked to see this camera work with a battery pack instead of just an ac adapter, its not truly wireless.

Overall its a very nice web enabled camera, there are still a bit of bugs to work out though to make it truly a great piece of hardware.

4 out of 5 eggsSolid camera overall

Pros: Awesome packaging. Solid and unless a UPS truck runs it over, it will get to you in one piece.

Build quality is solid. Doesn't feel or look cheap. Makes you not regret paying over a Benjamin for this. Clean, professional design. A swivel camera, the Wi-Fi antenna, and ports for power and an RJ45 network cable are all present. No fancy gimmicks.

Overall ease of initial setup is positive. The instruction books are well written and uses acceptable English. Plenty of diagrams to help you along the way.

The video quality is good for the resolution. Both day and night views are viable enough to get the job done. Some compression artifacts are evident, but nothing too extreme. Night time viewing is sharp, with minimal noise in the image. Recorded video looks good, about as good as you can get at 640x480 resolution.

Motion control is excellent. The camera pans, tilts, zooms as expected and with no delay.

Overall the software is well done and full featured. Software setup is quick and painless. The camera was found and setup right away.

Mobile app and cloud feature are added bonuses.

Cons: While security cameras such as these have made leaps and bounds in making their setup and operation as easy as possible, the setup still requires at least some basic networking knowledge and computer skills.

The software suffers from option overload by default. So many buttons and menus to click on and use. A 'basic' layout is needed for people who just want to see the camera, and record video. An option for advanced features should be given, to allow the end user to enable.

While setup was overall a positive experience, I can't say that I would give this to someone without an understanding of their home network or poor computer skills. Even with the well laid out documentation I feel there may be issues.

Software aside, the other minor issues are:
- Sound during panning
- Size makes it unacceptable to be a real hidden camera
- Requires a power oulet nearby limited it's positioning
- Digital zoom is less than ideal, and often choppy.
- Audio could be better/clearer

Other Thoughts: One of the better cameras on the market in this price range. A serious contender for your money. Just make sure you are comfortable with setting one of these things up. It's easy, but requires a bit of networking and computer knowledge.

As another reviewer said, if you have WPS setup issues, it's probably easier to just setup the camera via the RJ45 port.

4 out of 5 eggsPretty little diddy

Pros: - Incredible app for viewing on the go
- Set up time in under 10 minutes
- Heavy duty mounting bracket
- Online cloud streaming to easily manage multiple cameras with ease
- ability to turn off LED signal lights...
- Wireless seems very consistent, much easier to mount because of this

Cons: - BIG form factor, no one would miss it (kind of good?)
- Zoom function is very choppy
- Very frustrating trying to save/upload content
- Loud when pan/tilt is activated
- Night vision can be sensitive at times

Other Thoughts: I like this camera overall, the video quality is really good even with night vision. Overall this is a great product. I set the motion detection to notify by e-mail and it works pretty well. I would like to see the app get updates as it could use a few more features, but as is this is my FAVORITE part of this device. You do not need a wifi connection to watch and control the camera . I hope they can update the cloud service to make is more user friendly as far as saving content.

4 out of 5 eggsEggXpert Review - TRENDnet TV-IP851WIC - UPDATE!!!

Pros: See previous review.

Cons: See previous review, but keep this update in mind!

Other Thoughts: In my previous review when I said that the sound wasn't working in my Cons, What I meant to say is that it wasn't working when I first set the camera up. The sound started working afterwards but it still has static in the background, and it doesn't matter how much you turn the microphone sensitivity down, it's just a constant static. Otherwise, the microphone picks up sound just fine, and you can still hear it over the static.

4 out of 5 eggsEggXpert Review - TRENDnet TV-IP851WIC

Pros: Setup is simple
High quality video stream
Night vision is very good
Mobile app is very convenient

Cons: Not battery operated, so it requires a nearby power outlet.
Digital zoom only
Sound wasn't working
Mobile app is slow
Image/video uploading is a little confusing
Constant static in audio

Other Thoughts: This was installed using a router without a WPS button using the included CD and LAN cable to manually set it up. The setup sounds more complicated than it actually is, and it would be even simpler with a WPS router. Once the setup is complete, you can remove the LAN cable and it works wirelessly, even after removing power and moving it to a different location.

The mounting hardware was not used in my case but it would come in handy if it was necessary to wall or ceiling mount it, otherwise it works fine just sitting on a flat surface.

Privacy is definitely a concern with this camera in my opinion. There is no secure connection, and the only security it offers for your video stream is the username, password, and the web address to view it from, all of which can easily be taken advantage of in my opinion.

Sound quality is great apart from a constant static in the background, and even though this camera is only 640x480, everything is shown fairly clearly, except for fast motions.

The night vision can see farther than the advertised 7.5 meters in pitch-black conditions, which is absolutely great.

The online app for controlling the camera is very in-depth, and allows complete control over the camera including resolution, frames-per-second, digital zoom (which is a big downside compared to an analog zoom), camera angle and orientation, and allows you to set up a daily recording period, patrol, motion activation with the ability to set zones to look for motion within the camera's view, emails of images sent from your camera every x amount of seconds when the camera is activated, and the ability to upload it directly to your computer.

The mobile app works, but has a rather high latency when trying to pan or angle the camera, however video is only somewhat delayed. To quote Louis CK, “Can you give it a second? It's gotta go to space!”

I believe the term “cloud” is a little misleading with this camera as there is no video saved to a cloud server, only a real-time video stream available online. However, the ability to save it to your computer or send it via email is still there and makes it a little more versatile without having to keep a constant eye on the camera when you're away, however getting it uploaded to your computer is a little complicated. The option is there, but after trying to figure it out for about half an hour I just gave up as I was getting to frustrated.

All in all, this is a pretty good camera with a lot of options, most of which are easy to use. It allows you to easily check on your house, room, or wherever you may have it set up, any time of day.
