5 out of 5 eggsFANTASTIC Monitor Arm!

Pros: - Super-easy to adjust--up, down, left, right, forward, and back--with very little play to ensure you can get it in that perfect spot and keep it there. Also, full and continuous 360 rotation of the screen (limited only by your monitor cables wrapping around the arm), but if you'd rather you can also put in a screw to lock it to a particular orientation. The extra-tall pole is a must for future-proofing.
- Super-solid metal construction! Holds the monitor rock steady even at full extension and will undoubtedly last for years. Seriously, you could drive nails with this thing and/or use it as a club in a zombie apocalypse. There's a tiny bit of plastic on this thing, but it is purely aesthetic.
- Super-easy tool-less assembly for edge mount! Even comes with thumb screws for the VESA mount! Grommet mount mode is a tad annoying as you have to swap parts on the mount, but this is a matter of removing one screw, swapping a part, and then putting the screw back in. The hard part is you have to look at the instructions to figure out what to do.
- Gentle on the desk! There are rubber pads on the bottom of the top portion of the mount that ensure it won't move and/or scratch the desk surface. The bottom portion is a smoothed piece of metal that the mounting screw runs through to form a clamp; not padded, but since it's tightened with a wingnut it shouldn't do much damage even on the underside of the desk.

Cons: - The arms offer height adjustment of course, but if you want to adjust the height on the pole you need to use a small hex key to loosen/tighten the clamp. I understand they wanted the clamp flush for aesthetics, but I would have preferred a tool-less option.
- The VESA mounting screws that came with the stand are too long for my monitors (QNIX QX2710). Of course, I blame the monitor designer more than ERGOTRON. I just used some washers to fill the extra space and ensure a solid mount.

Other Thoughts: I bought one of these for a second monitor (QNIX QX2710) after enjoying the monitor arm that I bought with my desk. I've now upgraded to 3 monitors (all QNIX QX2710s), and this was so infinitely better than my first monitor's arm that I went ahead and bought 2 more: one for the 3rd monitor and one to replace the 1st monitor's arm.

Love having my monitors on arms! There's so much desk space you lose when using a stand. True, this thing costs half as much as the monitor itself, but it is well worth the investment IMO.

-Have option to clamp or screw it to your desk
-Can move the monitor around wide range of movements

Cons: -Poor tilt movements doesn't seem to want to go down

Other Thoughts: This is my second product from Ergotron and they do have quality products which look nice ,are sturdy would take a tornado to knock these down will be buying 3 more so I can complete my 4 X 4 Eyefinity set up
I recommend any product Ergotron sells as they are of quality and do what they say they do and they are not cheaply made

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Everything works and is quite sturdy. Not sure how it will perform in the long term though.

Cons: The tilting range is vertical and almost 90 degree up (screen points upwards). I wish it can tilt down, too.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Chocie--great value

Pros: 5 eggs, not because there are not better ones (e.g., Humanscale at $240plus) but below this price range, few are more than clugs with badly fitting parts and whose screws need to be loosened if the haven't been stripped, if you want to move the monitor around. In its price range and above there are few competitors. The LX is a well made, nicely designed, unit well worth the price.
What's nice about this unit is that, once you have it set up, you can move the monitor around and up and down without readjusting the tension or loosening/retigthening any screws. Although, if your desk is on casters or wheels, you will want to lock them, which is a good safety rule anyway. The elevation movement is smooth. What's nice about this unit is that, once you have it set up, you can move the monitor around and up and down without readjusting the tension or loosening/retigthening any screws.

Cons: Horizontal motion is better than cheaper arms but stiffer than vertical movement. It helps if you spray the two large post joints with silicone lubricant liberally and then wipe away thorough all of the excess. This won't make the swing movement magically light, but it does ease it up a bit. By post joints I mean the large joints where the upper arm meets the lower and were the lower arm meets the desk mounting post. These joints have no bearings; they have plastic sleeve-type bushings. This might seem less than ideal but they work far better than what I've seen on some of the cheaper units offer.

Other Thoughts: The LX comes with a heavy duty clamp base and a drill-a-hole-in-the-desk grommet type mount--both come in the box. All of the parts are in a two-layer plastic strip, sealed into multiple compartments with each compartment labeled as to contents. Much better than those units that come with all the screws etc. all in one bag and you have to sort them by count and looks against their picture in the instructions.

It's not quite as pretty as the Humanscale M2 or M8, which cost about 60% more, but much more nicely finished than the cheaper units I've seen up close. The LX, with less attractive desk mounting pole, has a greater range of vertical position than the Humanscale.

If you can afford it, this monitor arm is a very good choice. If you can afford more, then it's a tough choice between this at its price vs the Humanscale arms at the higher prices. For the money, this is a much better deal, thus, my rating of 5 eggs.
