Yes, it is compatible.
An issue to be mindful of when replacing a 5400 RPM drive with a 7200 RPM drive is heat generation/dissipation.
5400 RPM drives are generally used in laptops for two reasons; [1] slower speeds generally produce less heat thus requiring less cooling and both result in second reason [2] lower cost.
I placed this drive in a laptop that had a 7200 RPM drive originally and found it to run cool. Case design plays a role - best determination comes from answering the question, "Does the manufacturer produce the laptop model in question with a 7200 RPM drive option?" If yes, then no worries.

Will this hard drive be compatible with a HP Compaq presario CQ56 laptop?

In most case all 2.5" hard drives are compatible with all laptop models... that being said if you are still unsure the easiest way to tell is to open up the case and check the connectors or to check the specs of the laptop.

I need to replace the HD in my Lenovo laptop. It currently has a Fujitsu MHV2060BH is this compatible?

It should be. I just replaced the drive on my wife's HP laptop with the WD3200BEKX. Although the original drive was a 1.5 Gbs (160Gb) drive, the WD 6.0 Gbs drive seems to be backward compatible. I just copied over a stored backup image using Acronis software to the new one, put it in and it works like a charm. I believe that the WD website has cloning software available if you need it, and of course there are other options.

I installed the drive in a HP G60 which had a 350 Toshiba drive in it. The replacement drive is operating fine. I hope this helps. I did have recovery disks made and reinstalled the original software from HP.

Most laptops are designed to take a standard 2.5" hard drive so it should work just fine.  If in doubt though you can find the technical specification list on the Dell support website.

I'm replacing a hard drive from a sony vaio purchased in 2010. I know these things are univeral, but I want to be for sure it's compatible. Is this one cool?

By 2010, most hard drives had migrated to SATA interface, rather than EIDE.  This drive SHOULD be compatible - though data transfer speeds may only be 3.0Gb/s rather than 6.0Gb/s depending on other internal components in your system.

If the original specs supported 6.0Gb/s, then this will run at that speed.

You'll need either an image of the original disk to restore to the new disk, or a set of Installer disks from the manufacturer to get back to a fully operational system.

One additional consideration - DON"T plan on filling your drive with DATA to it's fullest capacity.  I generally leave about 20% of a drive empty.  This allows for "scratch space" and allocation of sectors if others fail.  Filling a drive to it's maximum capacity is just asking for a crash.

Yes  a sata3 (6Gbps) is backwards compatible to sata2 (3Gbps). They are both 2.5" so size should be the same. You will see better performance from the 7200 r

Yes it should work.  Reading about the computer you own it's possible that you have a Solid State Drive (SSD).  You need to open up your laptop and remove the drive to see what you have.

If its a SSD, then you want to stay with that.  The SSD out performs the HHD,

Newegg has a great choice of SSD, but compair them carefully not all drives are equal.  Just like HHD drives.

Yes, but be aware that 7200 rpm drives generally run hotter and use battery power quicker than 5400 rpm drives.

If speed is your main goal, an SSD is much faster and mitigates both of the above concerns, too. Choose one of standard 9.5mm height (thick) if you opt to go this way.
