1 out of 5 eggsGIGABYTE GA-G1.Sniper Z97 LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Definitely has plenty of bells and whistles for a mobo in this price range. I love the look of board as well.

Cons: I may change my rating if there are no problems with the board over the next few months. The reason I gave this board such a low rating is because the size of the board should not be listed as ATX. I realize it was an error on my part to not notice the board was a little smaller, but to make it small enough to not have the right 3 mounting holes for support just baffles me.

In the long run, will not having that edge of the board supported matter? Probably not, but extreme care should be taken while installing the 24 pin power cable as not not flex the board too much.

Other Thoughts: I have a 2+ year old Gigabyte board in my own rig and it has never had an issue, and I hate leaving a bad rating because of the size, but to me this is something that would have swayed me away from purchasing this particular board. I did learn a lesson with this purchase; Always, and I mean always, check the size of an item versus what it is actually listed as.

4 out of 5 eggsBeautiful board but shipped with corrupt BIOS

Pros: 1. Beautiful board (strong red design with black background)
2. Lots, and I mean lots, of detailed BIOS overclocking and tweaking options
3. BIOS menu layout somewhat intuitive and customizable
4. DualBIOS - saved my rear from having to go through the tremendous hassle of RMA'ing the board (in which YOU have to pay for shipping - such a farce)

Cons: 1. ATX shape a bit wierd - it's not as wide as most ATX boards so it can bend down where the SATA/Power sockets are located
2. Shipped with a corrupt main BIOS/UEFI - instructions on boot sequence for recovery not located in manual

Other Thoughts: I don't normally write reviews, but in this case I'll make an exception as a warning to others about receiving a corrupt main (or backup) BIOS. I have built around 100 systems, and this is the first time I had one that was completely unresponsive on power up - all of the components were powered up with a blank monitor. I'm not one to blame the MB first, so I went through the normal troubleshooting techniques of removing components one by one to narrow down the cause of the issue... to no avail. So I finally decided to try the DualBIOS for giggles (via dip swich) and Viola! it boot right up.

Turns out the primary BIOS shipped corrupt. So spent the next few hours online trying to figure out how to get the stable Secondary BIOS copied over to the Primary BIOS. It's not clearly written, but this is how it's done. I had to piece it together through a few separate articles/forum posts. Also, I'm pretty sure the keypresses are right, but I'm currently going from memory:
1. Dip switch to 'good' BIOS (secondary)
2. Ctrl+F10 on boot - this will swap the secondary BIOS with the primary BIOS
3. Dip switch to, now 'good', primary BIOS (and bad secondary)
4. Power off and boot, now good, primary BIOS
5. Alt+F10 on boot - this will bring up a menu to copy the now good primary BIOS to the DualBIOS secondary
6. All done!

Other than that, it's a good fast board...

1 out of 5 eggsNot quite std ATX size

Pros: Dunno. Roadblock before I was even able to install it in the chassis....

Cons: Like the title says, this board is NOT the ATX standard size, which - per wikipedia - is 305mm x 244mm. This one is only 305mm x 233mm. An 11mm difference seems trivial, but this means that it doesn't fit properly in a standard ATX case. That means that the far long edge of the board (closest to the main power connector) does not have any screw holes. That leaves about 3" of the board without any support. Will that matter? Maybe not, but I want the board to fit correctly in the ATX case that I bought using the standard ATX screw pattern.

The product description here does say that it's dimensions are 12" x 9.2" (std ATX is 12" x 9.6") but come on. Who has time to verify that kind of minutae? Confirming memory voltage, speeds, CPU sockets, etc.? Sure. But ATX?

Also, the case I'm using is a Cooler Master HAF 912 - High Air Flow Mid Tower Computer Case, bought from NewEgg in the same purchase. It definitely supports standard ATX, as well as mini ATX. Even has a dead-simple legend stamped into the sheet metal that shows precisely which holes are ATX and which are mini ATX.

Other Thoughts: Really disappointed with this. I spent a lot of time evaluating options and eventually chose this board in large part because I have a three-year-old Gigabyte 2011-based board, which has been great.

5 out of 5 eggsVirus ti2

Pros: Great looking board with audio perks that I can use. Virus ti 2 and USB D.A.C-UP run perfect together. That was my main reason for this motherboard.

Love how it lights red! Looks good with MSI 980 that lights up white. Almost has a Christmas look to it.

Cons: Non.

Other Thoughts: using i7 4790K and was worried about bios needing F6, but I was able to install i7 4790K on bios F5 without issues.

4 out of 5 eggsBeautiful Motherboard!

Pros: BIOS was simple enough. Works quietly with my PNY 16GB Ram, GeForce 560 (though I really need to upgrade that video card for gaming). Aesthetically appealing. Looks great and lights up beautifully in my Snow Mid-Tower. Works well with Windows 8.1!

Cons: Audio. For some wacky reason, I cannot use headphones because the sound becomes distorted and high-pitched- like a horror film. (And believe me, I was waiting for the jump-scare!) I had to re-install the motherboard completely just to get the audio working again, but then it starts back up. So, I can't use headphones/headsets with mics.

2 out of 5 eggsBe careful

Pros: Fast, easy to configure. Worked well with my CPU and memory.

Cons: After a few weeks it started making a horrible buzzing noise that I finally isolated to the area where the soundblaster chip is installed on the motherboard. Unfortunately I'm too late to RMA it directly to Newegg in time. This is a Rev 1.0 board. Given the mixed reviews you folks might want to wait for Rev 2.0 and not fall for the rebate just yet.

2 out of 5 eggsEcho Other Users, and add some thoughts

Pros: The board installed easy, BIOS was simply enough. Does everything I need.

Cons: Audio is in fact an issue. Glad I found this in the reviews. I also had major issues with Windows 8.1 sleeping, and coming back on after sleep cause I am running stripped SSDs, tech support blew me off after after the question. They told me to try a couple things that didn't work and then just closed the ticket.

I found an updated driver from the intel site, and that has resolved all my SSD issues and sleeping, and returning from sleep mode.

I have the same audio issues as everyone else. Solved it by changing the speaker mode to headphones even though I have speakers, but that at least enabled the front speakers. I'm hoping there is an update coming soon for this issue. I'd open a ticket, but I am sure it wouldn't help.

Other Thoughts: I'm not completely unhappy with the board, just the support, and the lack of response. I expect some amount of these issues buying a board as new as I did.

5 out of 5 eggsGood board

Pros: Good board so far. BIOS is easy to navigate.

Cons: On board audio jacks are bad (the left ear gives audio, while the right doesn't; tried different headsets with no change). There are dip switches to amplify audio, but I never noticed a difference in audio levels. However, the pc case audio jacks to motherboard audio interface work well. Board did not like DDR3 Kingston hyper memory. However, the board was stable with G Skill sniper memory.

Other Thoughts: I'm not deducting an egg because of the audio issue; audio works fine through use of the case audio jacks. Also, pci lanes are avail. for audio expansion cards. For the price, the board does everything I need for gaming.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Five egg quality board that's stable, reliable, and looks great.

Cons: Do not install their Utilities (App Center and utilities it comes with) under any circumstance. If I were just rating the software for this board I would of gave them 1 egg only. Just use the BIOS to OC and Speedfan to take control of cooling.

Other Thoughts: Sound cut out completely one [soft-]boot but hasn't happened since. I noticed other reviews with sound problems but I experienced this only once so I think it was an anomaly and not hardware related.

5 out of 5 eggsRock Solid

Pros: Love the layout, the gold plated USB DAC is a nice touch. Although it comes with the Sound Blaster built in we not using it. I built 2 identical computers for our 2 recording studios. List of Components: 2x i5 4690K, 2x Samsung EVO 840 250GB SSD, 2x WD SE 1TB HD, 2x 8GB of GSkill Trident DDR3 2400, 2x XFX R7240, 2x Noctua NH-C12P SE14 140mm SSO CPU Coole, and finally 2x Corsair RM450 Gold rated PS. Running Windows 7 Pro x64, Reaper, Sound Forge and Vegas Pro. Connected to the USBDAC is a CI1 USB Audio Interface from Steinberg. I added a TI based firewire card and connected a Focusrite Saffire PRO 40 audio interface. Our studios utilize ISDN, Source Connect Now, Skype, Phone patch, and in house Gretch-Ken and Whisper Room sound isolation booths with Shure and Sennheiser mics.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: Our audio engineers love how fast these computers boot and perform.
