5 out of 5 eggsVery nice!

Pros: I really like this board. It uses 8 hex standoffs to mount so there's very little chance the board will flex while plugging and unplugging things.

The BIOS was logically arranged and easy to navigate. This board has more USB headers than its closest competitor from ASUS. The USB 3.0 header fits perfectly if your case is of sufficient quality.

I ran a 750ti and GTX650, both of which use a high amount of PCI-E board power and no external hookup, and the board supplied them with electricity just fine. Very impressive!

Cons: No cooling on the VRMs but also not much in the way of overclocking features with B85 so that's not the end of the world.

I had about 1 board out of the 18 or so I got have a problem with its USB ports. They seem all severely damaged. I did use a not so respectible brand of internal card reader that I found out later has known problems with Haswell chipsets but I didn't expect it to damage all front and read USB ports. It may be the case shorting out as well. Considering how much better this board is than the E33 and P45 editions, I still strongly recommend it as the best option for most builds.

it would have been nice if the board came with the LPT header parallel hookup cable but at least the CSM version does. It does have the serial port and LPT headers on the board though.

Other Thoughts: Finally, someone with a brain configured the BIOS. While XMP isn't turned on by default, AHCI is turned on instead of IDE mode for all SATA ports.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Lots of features. Great Price.

Cons: The PCI-E 3.0 slot is situated very close to the ram. Most graphic cards will overhang and conflict with this. Thus limiting your selection of gfx cards for this board.

Other Thoughts: USB 3.0 slot was at a tricky angle, double check that your case has room.

5 out of 5 eggsMSI B85M G43

Pros: Cost Effective, Optical Out, 32GB memory support,

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: This is a B85 chipset motherboard, know what your getting into before you buy. Think of "B" as basic or budget. Don't expect top notch RAID support, overclock support, vPro, or Intels SIPP. One processor, a couple drives this board works great. MSI offers a lot on this board in comparison to other B85s.
FYI Guys that have expert level tech support..... Watch out for the MSI Super Raid. - here is what it is (Straight from MSI) - "Super RAID is MSI Software utility to set up Rapid Start, Smart Response and Smart Connect by just one click. It can tell each chipset SPEC and adjust its support function. Please be advised that Intel Smart Response is required to perform RAID " Therefore, H81/Q85/B85 do not have RAID support, but they still can support Rapid Start and Smart Connect.

3 out of 5 eggsUSB 3.0 Port Bad Configuration. Wont work in all computer cases

Pros: Bios set up and installation was a breeze.

Cons: The USB3 connections are not upright, by this I mean you plug in from the side, I don’t want to modify my ATX Cooler Master Mid Tower case in order to use the USB 3.0 port.
Case that I purchased: Cooler Master N300 – Mid Tower Computer Case with Meshed Front Panel

I should have read the reviews before purchasing this product. It looks like there are several other complaints about this same issue. I have emailed MSI support to see if there is a connection piece that would change the direction of the input that that they could sell me so that I wont have to modify the case. Awaiting their response.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Eric,

As mentioned to you in the email, that your case is using an indented design for the base mounting plate therefore it blocks USB header unlike standard design which allows it to remain open and can be used.

Here is the case comparison image:

4 out of 5 eggsGood board, tough SATA connections

Pros: Overall board layout is good. Setup screen has many options to choose through, has enough expansion slots to connect just about anything to.

Cons: Though I did notice in the photos the SATA and USB3 connections are not upright, by this I mean you plug in from the side, which meant I was forced to modify my micro atx case in order to use the ports. Perhaps this makes sense for some cases, but all of my micro ATX cases work much better with the standard SATA layout.

4 out of 5 eggs Solid board

Pros: Good quality board, zero issues getting it installed and up and running...accommodation for four fans as well as a rich bios begs for over clocking...if you know what you're doing (no Gigabyte simple over clocking settings via an app, but then again, I'm perfectly fine with that when you get the granular control the BIOS offers). Max 32GB RAM is nice, layout of the board is nicely done. Played nice with my external RAID enclosures from the get-go (no, the board isn't equipped with RAID, but w/my RAID card, system booted w/out any hassles).

Cons: Be aware that this is truly a mini-ATX board and uses every millimeter of that spec...if your case is a tight fit, this board will be very snug. In my case that meant the onboard USB 3.0 ports were inaccessible. But that's largely an issue with my case. One other thing to keep. Mind: no legacy IDE support...so if you have an old school IDE/non-SATA DVD/BluRay drive, plan on buying a new one. Also note that you'll need to install the Intel video drivers off the accompanying disc...standard Win7 Pro installation didn't install appropriate drivers.

Other Thoughts: Overall, good board, performs as expected with added bonus of some nice extra perks. So far so good.

1 out of 5 eggsMisleading Features

Pros: Seems durable and of quality.

Does have a nice GUI for a BIOS. Seems great for Overclocking newbs.

Cons: I thought this board had RAID. It does not. In the features there is this:
Super RAID: Easily Setup & Configure Intel Technologies

On the box there is "SUPER RAID"

In the CD there is "SUPER RAID EASY CONFIG"

In the BIOS... wait.. where's the RAID?

I bought this board because I wanted RAID because it said there was RAID EVERYWHERE!!! But, there is apparently no RAID controller. So yes, give us all the tools to make a great RAID setup, then not give this board RAID. That is a BRILLIANT plan MSI. Even go as far as to print it on the box.

Apparently, SUPER RAID is not "RAID0, 1, 5, or 10", SUPER RAID is only a boost to regular RAID0 arrays and it is software only.

Their website is HORRIBLE with support. The Manual made references to RAID and setting it up even. The website would not work for me half the time in Firefox, and I registered my products but I could not submit a help ticket. The link was broken. The phone line support hours are 8-5pm CST so contacting them was a mute point.

I was a fan of Gigabyte but a friend got an MSI board and I thought it looked cool. Now I know to stick with what I know. While Gigabyte might not update their stuff at least they are accurate in describing their features.

This is especially important seeing as there is a no return/exchange policy on New Egg.

Other Thoughts: If your not looking into a RAID setup, or "SUPER RAID" lol, and are just looking to overclock then by all means go for it.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize for the term that confused you.
For your information, Intel B85 chipset does not support RAID due to hardware limitation.

For Super RAID, it represents three key features, see below.
http://www.msi.com/product/mb/B85M-G43.html#/?div=Overview

Super RAID
MSI's exclusive Super RAID application helps to easily setup and configure to boost your system performance and stay current with automatic, no-wait updates to your e-mail, social networks, news, and more via the 3 Intel® key technologies:

3 Key Intel® Technologies:
- Intel® Rapid Start
- Intel® Smart Response*
- Intel® Smart Connect

5 out of 5 eggsGood

Pros: This motherboard is essentially perfect if you're not looking at a K series processor. Presumably, it's okay there too, given what I've seen of the BIOS. Plenty of options in there. Also, plenty of I/O, and enough of all the right ports, though I wish there was more USB 3.0 . Three 4-pin fan hosts mean lots of controllable fans.

Cons: Just a 4-pin CPU power connector; means increased heat generation in those wires. This is the only reason I discourage the use of this board for K-chip overclocking.

Other Thoughts: Other interesting features, like water/moisture resistance, help the value of this board.

5 out of 5 eggsTriple Monitor on HD 4600

Pros: I am letting the HD4600 drive three monitors using Ubuntu Linux. A 2560X1440 flanked by a pair of 1920X1200s.

Cons: The board does not boot up (does not reach bios splash) if my usb3 HD is plugged in. A strange but minor annoyance.

Other Thoughts: None
