5 out of 5 eggsGreat mother board

Pros: Works as described
Works great with ESXI 5.5 (Both NICS supported by distributed ESXI drivers)
ECC memory (32GB)
No problems with PCI pass through to guests under ESXI

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I'm using it in a Supermicro 743TQ-865B-SQ case. Fan speed controlled as expected for me.

1 out of 5 eggsWould not boot

Pros: none

Cons: The first one I received was having problems booting, occasionally restarting multiple times before the OS could initialize. Then it bricked. The fans would spin but it wouldn't POST. I had filed for an RMA and received another broken motherboard. It still POSTs successfully, but abruptly powers off and restarts during OS initialization.

I have installed the latest bios and firmware and tested with Ubuntu 13.10, Ubuntu 12.04, and Windows Server 2012, and the installs work when using the same hardware with a different motherboard so I am convinced this board was the cause.

Other Thoughts: I have been emailing technical support about this since I can no longer return this board to Newegg. So far suggestions were to disable the "intel mei" driver and to try different operating systems, but to no avail.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat mobo for entry level server

Pros: IPMI (killer feature including KVM over IP)
Low power
2 Onboard Intel NICs
Onboard USB

Cons: CPU socket is in "non-standard" location
Automated fan control doesn't seem to work well with low speed/low noise fans

Other Thoughts: I bought this board for an ESXi build. It exceeded my expectations and was totally worth the wait.

A little more expensive, but you get:
2 Intel NICs onboard
Onboard USB (for the ESXi install)
ECC Memory support

You pay a little more, but you get server grade options.

The BIOS fan control doesn't seem to work with my fans, but I'll let it slide (even though it was listed as a con). I'm using low power/low noise Noctua fans throughout, and my research says the board doesn't expect to be working with fans operating at that speed.

I worked around this issue by using the low noise adapter cables supplied with the fans, works just fine. Won't dock an egg because I'm using an unexpected configuration, so to speak.

It has been rock solid hosting a home lab running 7 VMs concurrently. Nothing crazy, but it's run cool and quiet at low power the whole time.

I had some issues with upgrading the IPMI firmware which turned out to be 100% user error.

I will be buying this board again next year to upgrade my NAS. I'm doing it for the IPMI support alone... the onboard USB, NICs, and ECC memory support are just icing on the cake.
