ADVANCED TWIN FROZR IV

ADVANCED TWIN FROZR IV

MSI's Twin Frozr has been the industry defining graphics card cooler. The first Twin Frozr kicked off the dual-fan trend and today MSI stays true to its dual-fan dual-slot design where others have to resort to less effective means.

The other part that the Twin Frozr cooler uses is a large Aluminium fin grid array that provides a huge amount of surface area for cooling. Heat from the GPU is transferred to the fin grid array by virtue of heat pipes with MSI's special SuperPipe technology. SuperPipes transfer heat twice as fast as regular heat pipes enabling an MSI GAMING graphics card to stay cooler than the competition.

Futhermore, MSI provides all new Airflow Control technology on the Twin Frozr. This new thermal technology is leading airflow to heat pipes by special deflectors on the heatsink, so it can deflect more airflow to heat pipes directly. In addition, this exclusive design is increasing the area of heatsink so that enhancing the efficiency of dissipation much more.

MILITARY CLASS COMPONENT

MILITARY CLASS COMPONENT

One of the deciding factors in performance is the quality of the components used. That is why MSI only uses MIL-STD-810G certified components for its gaming cards because only these components have proven to be able to withstand the torturous circumstances of extreme gaming and overclocking.

SOLID CAP

One with their aluminum core design, Solid CAP's have been a staple in high-end design mainboard designs and provides lower Equivalent Series Resistance (ESR) as well as its over-10-year lifespan.

SOLID CAP

Hi-C CAP

A Hi-c CAP is a very small, but super-efficient capacitor. Besides ensuring enough spacing around a CPU socket to install large coolers, it also allows for 93% energy efficiency. Thanks to Hi-c CAP's, MSI mainboards are the most energy-efficient in the market.

Hi-C CAP

NEW SUPER FERRITE CHOKES

New Super Ferrite Chokes use a Ferrite core that is Super-Permeable. This allows the Super Ferrite Chokes to run at a 35-degree Celsius lower temperature, have a 30% higher current capacity, a 20% improvement in power efficiency and better overclocking power stability.

3 out of 5 eggsLoyal MSI customer but....

Pros: Great card at 1920x1080 this card will run almost any thing. I ordered 3 of them for an sli/surround display set up and its beautiful and runs all games except for metro last light on ultra at a res of 5760x1080(dosent really surprise me) tomb raider runs flawlessly at this res but the cards will get hot especially in a 3 way sli.

Cons: to the cons.... this is really sad because ive always bought msi video cards for their construction and stability but when installing my video card i watched what i believe to be a transistor(c673) fall off the card its a bit smaller than a pencil tip. with that being said i hope this will not curb your opinion to much on msi because im sure ill be able to rma this with them.

Other Thoughts: great cards great company but some minor issues

1 out of 5 eggsGood while it lasted

Pros: Powerful card. Ran cool and quiet.

Cons: Died after 10 months. System shut off. I smelled something burning. At least it didn't damage the board or psu. Looking forward to my refurb and crossing msi off my list.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat while it worked

Pros: Fast
Handled anything I threw at it
MSI

Cons: This card came to me in perfect condition in January 2014, it worked for about 9 months. Unfortunately one day my pc just shut down like there was no power to it at all, even though the LED on the mobo was on.

Perplexed as to why it wouldn't power on despite power being supplied to the board, I did some testing and attempted to remove residual electricity from the board by unplugging the power, turning off the power supply, and holding the power button.

I plugged everything back in and I heard a crackling from inside my case and saw bits of light on the back of my video card. Seconds later another area on the back of the card also crackled with light.

As of now, the card still works, but I'm 100% sure this video card is causing a short in my system because all of my other components are in perfect working order. My power supply powers another PC perfectly with no issue.

Other Thoughts: Card was expensive, wish I could get it replaced without having to buy a brand new one. So I'll just have to deal with the shorts until I can afford a new one. Maybe I'll try EVGA this time for the warranties.

1 out of 5 eggsFried itself after 8 months of use!

Pros: After much research, I decided the price point vs. performance on this 780 was perfect for my build at the beginning of this year. It was an excellent video card while it was operational.

Cons: Earlier this evening, I experienced the following:

- Playing BF4 using my MSI 780 TF 3GD5/OC (all running stock, no overclock)

- Computer randomly shut off and failed to auto-restart

- Smelled something burning

- Removed the video card and found that two capacitors on the bottom had fried. I did not remove the card from the heat sink assembly to see what damage may have occurred there.

- My assumption is that the card was allowed to overheat but I have no idea why this would be as I keep my cooling settings very high. The recording studio that this computer is in remains at a very cool temperature at all times.

I have seen at least one other owner of this card have the exact same issue running BF4. While this does not prove a common defect, it certainly is an unfortunate coincidence.

Other Thoughts: Unfortunately due to 8 months having passed I fear that I now am left with a $500 paperweight and a need to buy a new video card.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,
Based on the symptom you described, many reasons can cause the situation like this. We suggest to avoid the situation by checking following steps:
1. Power down system, check the power supply and your motherboard.
2. Clear cmos, load everything back to stock settings.
3. If possible test out the card again, if it does not work, verify on another system to confirm.
For additional supports and warranty services, please feel free to contact MSI team directly for assistance at 626.271.1004 from M to F, 6am to 6pm Pacific Time.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat higher end graphics card

Pros: This is a very well constructed easy to install high end graphics card. If you are dropping the money on this card (currently hovering around 480.00) then you probably already know most of the stat's and have read a million other reviews....

If feel like this card is very well constructed VS some of the other graphics cards I have purchased in the past. Everything seems well put together and solid. It comes extremely well packaged and protected.

The card itself does have great coloring and design in my opinion and goes really well with my MSI motherboard.

Cons: The card really doesn't have many cons at all. It is quite possibly just an issue of my own, however I was bought a second one of these cards as a present so that I could run them in SLI. From the moment I installed the second card I had nothing but issues. I spent about 12 straight hours working to resolve the issue, researching online, troubleshooting on my own, testing card slots, checking temperatures, etc etc etc...

I only was able to get the second card to work for a very short time and while it was running I really didn't have any noticeable difference in many games.

In the end I put the second card in my Wife's computer and have just been content with just one. The single card will still play any video game that I have (and I have a LOT of games) on my 34" LG UltraWide Monitor with no hesitation or issues at all.

So not truly a CON perhaps just some bugs to be ironed out with SLI?

--Cost is a con; if it were 100 or 150 less I think it would be very attractive to many more people.

Other Thoughts: This is a very expensive card right now, but I love the way Nvidia updates drivers very very easily and I seem to have fewer overall issues with Nvidia cards than I do with Radeons. The included software from MSI is really nice if you intend to overclock and all that fun stuff.

If you are a hardcore gamer like myself I highly recommend this card!

2 out of 5 eggsGood Card, When it works

Pros: - Runs cool
- Very Quiet
- Fast rendering Games/3d Applications
- Nice design

Cons: - Failed (2 times), both times with artifacts
- Had to wait over 2 weeks each time for RMA, even with overnight shipping to them.
- First RMA received a cosmetically damaged card (heat pipes dented), not good for show.
- Customer support would not expedite shipping
- For the cost of this card I would have expected better support and with the RMA's a new card each time.

Other Thoughts: This card is very powerful and will run any game on the market today. I waited a long time to write a review because of previous experiences with video cards, and I am glad I did. I used to really like MSI but I do not think I will purchase from them again.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsQuiet and probably as good as other GTX 780

Pros: Although each manufacturer tweaks its cards a little, this one should not be too different from other GTX 780 in terms of performance. And performance is really good. I didn't experience any problem playing games at 2560x1080. Some games, however, are not optimized for this resolution but that's not the card's fault. The main question is how quiet are the fans. I would say that the fans are relatively quiet when idling. All I can hear is my case fan. Based on the one game I played, I would also rate the cards' fans as quiet. They don't seem to spin that much faster when playing a game (or the fans are very quiet even at high speed).

Cons: Nothing to really complain about. I feel some heat when playing games. This is kind of annoying in summer but my guess is that other GTX 780 would generate as much heat. Necessary evil.

Other Thoughts: I'm coming from 2 GTX 670 in SLI. I'm not sure I gained a lot in terms of performance but the heat and noise both dropped substantially. Noise doesn't annoy me anymore like it used to and heat is much more bearable.
