5 out of 5 eggsExcellent five monitor video card that works in linux

Pros: Was a snap to get going in linux with my quad monitor setup using the built-in xorg radeon driver.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: If you were previously using the proprietary fglrx driver, you'll have to make sure you remove EVERY TRACE of it, otherwise you'll have xorg nostart problems. You may have to completely replace/reinstall your xorg packages in your distro to accomplish this, including glx libraries.

4 out of 5 eggsVisionTak HD 7750 1GB PCI Express Video Card

Pros: Low profile with ability for high profile units
Allows up to 5 monitors

Cons: Needs power supply on mother board. Won't work in Dell Optiplex 6010

Other Thoughts: Purchased this thinking it would work but was my fault not to research. Will use in another computer. Can't really say how this card is yet.

5 out of 5 eggsPERFECT Solution

Pros: This was the Perfect Solution for an EASILY Installed Four DVI Display need. Hardware & Software Installation was smooth, and connections were a "No-Brainer."

Cons: Numbers on DVI Connectors are NOT in a contrasting color, so depending on your eyesight, reading them could require a flashlight and/or a magnifying glass.

4 out of 5 eggsHooking up 5 monitors with this card is a snap

Pros: As the caption of this review says, connecting 5 monitors (with extended display setting) - 3 x Acer 24", 1 x HP 23", 1 x Dell 19" - to my Dell Inspiron 660 machine with this card was easy, once I replaced the short bracket attached to the card with the full-sized bracket that came with the package (which was easy too). Delivery was fast as expected, and installing the drivers and accompanying software from the CD went smooth as well. I paid $179 for this card, which was a bargain when compared to other cards with similar capabilities (looks like price has gone up now).

I have only owned the card for 1 week, so I am reserving one +rating point for the future to see how it does a few months from now (I will try to give a 6-month update, assuming it can be done). There are also some possible software glitches and cable connection issues, which I elaborate on below.

Cons: One consistent problem, for which I do not have a solution yet, is that each time after the monitors wake up from sleep, the open application windows lose their previous positions and move randomly all over the screens. This can be annoying when you have to rearrange several such windows over 5 screens every time they wake up. One thing I noticed that may or may not have a bearing on this issue is that, the numbering of monitors in the native Windows 7 Display manager is different from their numbering in the installed AMD Display manager (the main display monitor is shown the same in both managers). I also noticed a soft tick...tick...tick... sound coming from the speaker only when the monitors stay asleep, and it goes away as soon as they wake up - so I do not have an easy way to identify which program may be causing the sound. I haven't yet played with the installed software to see if any of the setups can be tweaked to fix the problem.

The card comes with 1 miniDP port and 4 DVI-D ports, so if you want to attach 5 DVI-D cables to it as I did (you need an "active" miniDP to DVI-D adapter to use the miniDP port this way), the cables get quite heavy and can pull the card from its pci-e slot in a mini tower type desktop as mine. This seems to be a standard design issue, judging from reviews elsewhere for other VisionTek cards with 4 DVI-D ports. I dealt with this problem by bundling the cables on wall using "Kwik Clips" (bought them in Home Depot for $3.50 a pair) at the same level as the installed card, so the combined weight of the cables falls on the clip rather than on the card.

Other Thoughts: I needed to set up a trading desktop connected to multiple monitors with good response time (but not a high performance setup as in gaming), and this card does exactly that, and fits my budget too. I was still somewhat leery of buying it, because this card seems to be a recent addition without any product overview or customer review (now there is at least one). The answers by "Tim K" to the questions submitted here were helpful - thanks Tim!

Despite what it says in the manual, uninstalling the existing graphics driver before installing the new one was not needed (my machine has integrated Intel graphics). Besides, I needed to be able to go back to my old machine in case the new card did not work.
