5 out of 5 eggsGood low-cost/power gaming solution

Pros: A quick swap and relatively inexpensive. Runs cool & quiet.

Cons: cooling solution not perfect, but still v. good

Other Thoughts: Having a somewhat older build (mid ninties w/ iCore2 proc & 4Gb) I needed to step down a power hungry 650w p/s and AMD HD6870 combo to something a little more 'green'. I obtained a Rosewill 400w p/s and the Zotac GTX 750 Ti card (wanted a 2Gb solution to replace the 1GB AMD) for ~$150. A very easy swap, I was back up and running in a matter of minutes. Performance is comparable (prob a bit better although I have not conducted any 'hard' tests). The box runs quieter and cooler. The only (very minor) con for me is that the cooling solution for the card is 'open' - hot air is sucked down by the nice oversize fan but is not fully directed out of the case, just over the board/ chips with some coming out of the slot vents (I do have a roomy mid-tower case). It does run v. quiet and the short-chassis card does not require an additional power connection - my 1st nVidia card in quite awhile! Probably could have gone with a 350w p/s but wanted a little headroom just in case... Newegg had it to my front door in 3 days w/free shipping (advertised 4-7 days) - v. nice. I will otherwise edit if there are probs down the road...

3 out of 5 eggsWorks well enough, I guess.

Pros: Fairly cheap.
Small size.

Cons: I could not get my Linux PCs to boot with this card installed.

Other Thoughts: This was kind of an impulse buy. I should have researched it a bit more, but I got in a hurry after I updated my Ubuntu install and found out that my old video card had been orphaned. The amount of work required to get the old card going looked daunting. I figured, I should just get with the times, and get a newer card.

When this card arrived, I installed it, updated my drivers and rebooted. Everything looked fine, until a second reboot. The system got stuck on the loading screen and would go no further. I thought I had a blown card, so I pulled it, and dropped in another Linux PC (Mint 16, this time). Mint got stuck loading on this PC, too. A little bit of Googling indicates that Linux might have a problem with the 750ti. OK, over to my trusty Windows 7 gaming PC. The Windows machine boots and runs fine with this card. So, the gaming machine got to keep the card, and I installed it's old 550ti in my desktop. It needed that upgrade anyway.
