5 out of 5 eggsIn Use Since 2011 in Windows Media Center 7

Pros: Rock-solid reliable
Excellent Picture Quality
Has Recorded 20+ TB of HD Video

Cons: Media Center software has never been updated
Minor Bugs
Can't run dual units in Media Center (that I know of...some may have...)

Other Thoughts: I get a big kick out of all the negative reviews on this product and Windows Media Center. TONS of false information out there. I've been using it since 2011 in Media Center (Windows 7) and it's recorded 20+ TB's of video from my set top box (cable box).

Use the Component Out cables - this 'fixes' DRM issues.

I'm using the included IR blaster - no issues.

LOTS of false/inaccurate reviews here on this card. This is common on lots of review sites. I'd call it an IQ test but it's really not that hard to install/configure. Follow the instructions for a Media Center install and it's not hard to get it working. You just have to want to do it.

I use my Media Center PC all day everyday and everything I watch goes through it. I've been doing that since 2011 with rock-solid reliability. If you haven't been able to do that, then try again until you get it right. It's really not that hard folks.....

Highly recommended unless you have Cable Card support (USA).

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Dont have to pay for a DTV DVR

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Owners who are negative on the IR blaster must read the instruction carefully and if your config of your PC changes you must set up software again

3 out of 5 eggsWorks well enough but

Pros: The capture card itself works well enough and the software included with it is good enough to allow me to record tv programs.

Cons: The included component video and audio cable doesn't work at all. I had to buy another one from newegg to get the card working. The remote included with the product won't change channels on my cable set top box.

Other Thoughts: I should have waited another two weeks and got the Hauppauge 2

5 out of 5 eggsOwned 2 years

Pros: Excellent recording and video. Has worked great for me including blaster. After setup correctly never a thought. Always performed.

Cons: Blaster can take some work to setup correctly. Once setup, no problems.

Other Thoughts: I do not understand the neg comments on this hardware. I have never had an issue and am getting ready to order another one since the price dropped. Other issues may be in the process.

4 out of 5 eggsGood hardware that's difficult to install

Pros: Good recording. Fast response. Multiple input options.

Cons: Hauppauge has always had problems with the software side of their products. The colossus is no exception. If you are planning to purchase this unit, you should expect to spend some time and experience some frustration in getting it to operate well. Their software updates tend to be buggy, and the drivers don't tend to coordinate well with GUI 's. IT WILL, however, run well if you keep at it.

1 out of 5 eggsCaution

Pros: My intended use was with MS Media Center. I wanted to use the HDMI output of my cable box to view and record true Hi-Def TV. To this end the product performed flawlessly. Previously used the S-Video connection so this was a dramatic inprovement.

Cons: The problem is that the IR Blaster that is built into the card could not be configured to work with my Xfinity Cisco RNG200N STB. A call to Hauppauge support only gave me a "we have problems with some STB's". The support person did not try to work with me at all to resolve this problem.

Other Thoughts: If the IR Blaster is not needed, this product is great. If you do need the blaster, it's a coin toss if it will work or not. Don't depend on the support people to help.

1 out of 5 eggsDidn't work for me

Pros: I've owned two previous Hauppauge internal TV tuner cards and was happy with their products.

Cons: This HD card does not work with Windows 7 64 bit and I know how to install Hauppauge software.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks for me

Pros: comes with most cables. I have not had any issues with this card. I am using it to convert my old laserDiscs. I look forward to using it as a DVR when I am done. It does a great job for me.

Cons: I almost gave it 4 eggs. I do not use the software that comes with the card. I use Roxio Creator NXT Pro 2. It works great and is fast.

Other Thoughts: If you make changes to the setup you may need to reboot for it to work correctly. I found if I was having an issue a reboot would take care of it.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat capture card, but large in size ...

Pros: Had used ATI's video capture hardware for years and thought I would try out Haupp's Colossus capture card. I liked having the choice of composite / component / hdmi connection options. The software works well with the card and captures in 1080i as advertised. Make sure you have plenty of HD space to capture files in HD. Had for +6 months now and use it daily for capturing tv shows for the family. Windows 7 runs it great and never had to reboot for a lost signal or the card disappearing from the device manager (unlike some of the older ATI cards.) Software works well multi-tasking as well.

Cons: The card seems to me overly large for what it does compared to other capture cards. Between the mobo layout and my high end ram with cooling rails, this card really disrupted my video card upgrade plans. Capture software appears to have a memory leak, after running +24 hours or so wether it is capturing or not, it eats up the majority of the system RAM. Rebooting every few days seems to be the fix.

Other Thoughts: I spent a little more money on this capture card because of the hdmi option and ended up using the component side now exclusively. HD programming looks great in the raw capture format and after being formatted for viewing on other devices.

5 out of 5 eggsHauppauge Modle 1414

Pros: My pci-e was turned off in the uifi bios.
After that everything was smooth.

Cons: Big business putting their foot in it. Not allowing us full control.

Other Thoughts: The unscrupulous web sites calming to be Hauppauge.
They try to get into your computer, claiming to scan for driver updates. Then say they found problems. Wanting Money.
And taking control of your computer.
So you think that's impertinent! Just Beware! When you update drivers. Not everyone knows.
