4 out of 5 eggsNice product, no big problems

Pros: The system come with a HDMI cable so you don't have to buy another one.

The Hauppauge Capture works pretty well on a Intel Core2Duo (x86) CPU and a ATI HD5670 GPU.

WinTV is compatible with this item.

I love the configurable button on the top of the device (can be use to start recording, open Hauppauge Capture software, ...)

Able to record in : 1080p30, 1080i60, 720p60

Support PS4 over HDMI.

Possibility to do stream on Twitch and other with OBS.

Cons: No output sound on HDMI out while recording in 5.1 using S/PDIF. The solution for me was to use a HDMI splitter so I have 2.1 sound on my TV and 5.1 sound in the record.

Hauppauge capture crash sometime (but never while recording).

Does not support HDCP (need to use component cables).

Does not support PS3 over HDMI.

Hard to find help to solve your problems.

Other Thoughts: It's nice product, easy to use and no major problems that make it impossible to use.

Definitely better than Roxio or Elgato.

Sorry for mu bas english.

5 out of 5 eggsFor my Xbox One

Pros: This was for my Xbox One. Easy to set up. Downloaded drivers from website, set everything up, capturing and streaming is a breeze. Bought the Plus over the regular gaming edition for the 5.1 surround sound passthrough. Another thing I love about this unit is the record button on top of the device.

Cons: These are more than likely cons for other people, but for me its okay. For one, it only outputs at 30fps. The reason I'm okay with it is because my ISP has a 300GB monthly data cap so I'm saving myself quite a bit of bandwidth by not going 60fps.

This is the only con I have about the unit but personally it does not bother me.

Other Thoughts: FYI to those who want to use this for their Xbox One: If you have the HDMI connected from your cable box, you will not see an image. It's not the fault of the unit, but Microsoft has their own proprietary HDCP enabled so you don't capture TV shows or streaming services. Another thing about this and any other capture device is that you can NOT record party chat. Again, this is not the fault of the device; the Xbox One is set up that way.

Other than that, this capture device is awesome. I bought it on a great deal elsewhere, but wanted to share my experiences for those who might be interested in this. I have nothing but good things to say about it, however, if you're looking for 60 frames per second output, look elsewhere. This one only outputs at 30fps even though the input is 60fps.

1 out of 5 eggsResearch before buying... Easy to Brick.

Pros: out of the box ability to do s/video component without a breakaway box add-on.

Cons: Was excited to get this .. thought Hauppauge was a leader in capturing. After struggling with my device for a corse of a week before it died learned alot about it from Google searches.

This thing has lousy drivers. Trying various drivers to try and get this dumb thing from locking up or stopping capture (Google... you'll see a TON of people with probs on this), turns out their "drivers" include firmware. Writing various drivers corrupts the hardware firmware. Just overall headache. Cheap chinese plastic and overheats easily.

When I RMA'd it to newegg, was hoping to get a replacement.... they refunded due to not keeping in stock.

Other Thoughts: Took my RMA refund, took it to Best Buy and got the new Elgato HD 60 instead. Same price, its the unit thats all the hype now. Elgato may not have component/composite/s-video out of the box, but inexpensive a/v to hdmi boxes remedied it fast. VERY happy with Elgato.

2 out of 5 eggsXbox One Buyers Beware

Pros: Looks nice. Somewhat easy to setup, have to download several sets of drivers both from disc and from their website.

Cons: 1. Defective on Arrival - Power socket in back was no good.
2. Is not compatible with OBS
3. The capture that can link to Twitch, is SUPER SUPER SLOW, about 45 second delay. 15 seconds when done through OBS.

Other Thoughts: This is not a good option, for Xbox One users looking to stream.

2 out of 5 eggsGood, if it works

Pros: It is a good recording device, when it works. The bundled software is pretty good.

Cons: The output did not work correctly and distorted the the screen so it was oversharpened and had a green tint. The video recorded perfectly, put the output was all messed up. So, i contacted Happauge Tech Support. They were very rude via email. It generally took a while for them to get back to me, and when they did, it was one word answers. After trying to trouble shoot for days, and the tech still not believing me, he reluctantly gave me an RMA number. However, I have to pay to ship the broken hardware to New York. The whole process has been exasperating to say the least.

Other Thoughts: If it works it is a good piece of hardware. Just pray you don't have to return the product to Happauge for any reason. Their tech support can be very frustrating.

4 out of 5 eggsDoes what I need but....

Pros: The number one thing is the simplicity of the hardware setup. Software provided fits my needs as well as all the extra cabling they give you. They did not have to give me two hdmi's but they did and it is very much appreciated.

Let's not forget this saves me a ton of CPU and Memory while live streaming from my pc.

Cons: Though I would not really call it a con it is something to bring up. There is no way to route sound and outbound mic through both my headset and the hdmi for TV so that both I can hear it and my viewers on twitch can hear it.

On the hauppauge website they claim there is two ways you can. One is by using an additional piece of hardware called a sound mixer and the other is via the capture software on the pc.

I could not locate the option in the capture software and even if I could it would not serve my purposes since I do not save and upload later I like to stream.

I managed to work around this by using a driver called virtual audio cable. Routed all my sound to that driver by default and then ran three instances of it. Routing one to my headset, routing one two my hdmi and then routing my outbound microphone to be played on the hdmi as well.

Little bit of a splice way to do it but it works.
I subtracted an egg not for the above though.
I did it for the lack of forums on their website. They have a FAQ and some guides and stuff but it's all generic and none of them talk about using the PVR on the pc even though it clearly states that it can be used for pc in its description.

Why no love the pc users Hauppauge?

Other Thoughts: Even after I get a more resource capable computer I am likely to continue using this just because it work's so well.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Very simple and easy to use. All the cables come with the recording device. Looks great too! Software is very easy to install.

Cons: Records the screen noticeably slow compared to my commentary. I suggest that you look at your computer monitor when recording a game if you add commentary to your games. Besides that the gameplay is in the to the game music.

Other Thoughts: Great overall I recommend it!

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: ~ Record in any format you want
~ Easy to install
~ Seems expensive, but compared to some capture cards you put in your computer. Is not. And with the capture card you can only use with that computer. And on top of that it only goes into desktop.

Cons: ~ My real only complaint is the software. Not that the software is bad. But it's really my fault. It takes some time to figure out the perfect settings. I may do a youtube video on it.
~ Takes a while to set-up and alot of cords. But that's normal.
~ Only 360 can use HDMI to record. The PS3 can only use component cables.

Other Thoughts: The most frustrating thing about this product is setting it up, the second most is the cords. The third is that the settings have to be perfect to get that perfect record. Anything to low to choppy anything to high it starts messing up.

But most of the stuff that is bad about this product is things that cant be helped by hauppage. That's why Im giving this a perfect score. They really turned out a top notch product here. Even though I havent been playing games like I should. I really have to recommend this product. Actually I looked on youtube and there really isnt a decent tutorial on how to set this thing up. I'll get on that.
