1 out of 5 eggsWon't work with Win 7

Pros: Was great until I upgraded my system to Win-7

Cons: Drivers won't work with win 7. Web site only has win 8 drivers.

Other Thoughts: I would give it 5 starts if it worked with Win 7 as advertised.

5 out of 5 eggsCost effective and works just fine!

Pros: Inexpensive USB adapter makes it easy to add an additional monitor to any system. As recommended by other reviews, I used the DisplayLink drivers and did not even mess with the driver on the included CDROM. Worked perfectly using multiple adapters to run four monitors off of a single machine. The output is a DVI connecter, but it includes an adapter to use with an old VGA style display. I did not try that, only using DVI.

Cons: As far as I am concerned --- none.

2 out of 5 eggsWell... It works

Pros: Once able to find drivers, it works

Cons: As usual encore has failed to provide drivers for this.
I have to run my computer in test mode for it to accept the drivers due to having to use unsigned drivers.

Other Thoughts: I installed this on my Windows 7 Acer laptop. I have had experiences with buying Encore products before and I was hoping that this time would be different.
I believe that encore ripped off another chip most likely the DisplayLink DL-165 . Encore has outdated drivers provided on their website that when you read the details they are Display link drivers. The drivers I had installed from encore didnt even work. I had to do a lot of research to find the DisplayLink DL-165 Drivers yet they are not digitally signed by Microsoft so I cannot even install them in my laptops native state. The only way I can use these drivers is if I run my pc in test mode. Do to the fact that I'm running my computer windows constantly gives me warnings that my copy is not geniune.. this is not the case because I bought my laptop with windows installed from the manufacture.
All in all I do not recommend buying this adapter. Find a more reputable brand.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Like A Charm

Pros: I followed the advice from others indicating not to use the driver that came with the adapter. I downloaded the "DisplayLink USB Graphics Software for Windows*" 7.3M1 and it worked like a charm.

Cons: Would have been a pain without the comments from others

1 out of 5 eggsSave your money!

Pros: Product description sounds really good. I could really use that functionality to get a third screen with my Thinkpad Notebook.

Cons: Freezes Windows the moment you plug in the Encore USB connector. (Win7 Pro/64 on Lenovo Thinkpad T420). No support from vendor. Tried multiple driver versions for Thinkpad's built-in graphics. (Intel & & Nvidia)

3 out of 5 eggsWorks great after getting driver elsewhere

Pros: Works great once you figure out how to make it work properly. Thanks to Sean review published on 1/25/2013 8:08:46 AM for the tip.

I'm removing 2 stars for : 1-Not including a working windows 7 x64 driver with the package, 2-Not linking to the driver on DisplayLink's website on Encore website.

Cons: Well, don't use the provided drivers, go to DisplayLink's website and download their drivers instead, it will work

Other Thoughts: It's a shame that it does not work out of the box, you must, like Sean said, download a driver from another website. Shame on them (Encore) for not putting that on their website.

1 out of 5 eggsCan't make it work

Pros: Well, the price is good, $50 for that kind of hardware seems fines with me..., if it works.

Cons: I just can't get it to work, and it's been 20 years that I'm in TI. Everytime I try it, I get Blue Screen of Death. I followed the installation guide, nothing works.

I have Windows 7 x64, and I already have a 2nd monitor attached to it via HDMI. I wanted a 3rd one. never had an image on that 3rd monitor.

I tried the driver on the CD, I downloaded the latest one on their website, does not work, still get BSOD. When I go to device manager and it's plugged in, I see it, but it says that no drivers are installed. I saw Windows installed drivers when I connected the USB cable after I installed the driver just before is crashed into a BSOD.

Other Thoughts: If I could get it to work, I'll change my mind but..., it just don't work.

Pros: Works quite well for browsing, spreadsheets, even decent for youtube videos and photoshop.

Cons: The driver that came BSOD'd my laptop(win 7 enterprise 64). Had to go to find latest display link driver.

4 out of 5 eggsHad Issues, But Resolved

Pros: Once working it works pretty good. I'm using it for my work laptop, a Dell Latitude E6320. This allows me to run an additional external monitor, along with the vga extension. This gives me a total of 3 screens, if I use the laptop, that are all usable.

Cons: The drivers that come with it don't seem to work very well with my computer. It could be that I'm running Windows 7 64Bit. Encore's support site only has one driver available and it blue screens left and right. I had to do some digging to discover that the driver being used is a displaylink driver. Go to the displaylink website, look in their support section and you will find 6 previous DisplayLink Software Releases that you can try.

The most recent release, version 7.1 MO states that it's compatible with a number of versions of windows, clearly stating whether they are 64bit or 32bit versions, and Windows764bit is not listed. If you look under Previous DisplayLink Software Releases you will see that the earlier release, 7.0 M3, is compatible with Windows7* (64bit). I went with this one and it loaded right up for me and worked like a charm.

So, don't go to Encore's website for help. It is not helpful at all. Go to DisplayLink's website if you need help or need to try a different driver.

Other Thoughts: I originally reviewed this, it looks like Newegg removed my review, and I only gave it 1 star because it wasn't working. I was going to return it, but was not happy with Newegg charging me a restocking fee. I was also not happy about having to pay shipment to return it. Newegg, waived the restocking fee and is sending me a postage paid envelope to send it back. This is awesome. I was ready to stop shopping at Newegg after being a customer for years. I'm very happy with the way Newegg treated me and I will continue to shop, and continue to recommend them to everyone I know. Thank you Newegg for being Awesome!

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Product to Efficiently Add An Additional Monitor

Pros: I now own two of these (one for work, and one for home). In both scenarios, this adapter drives a third monitor under Windows 7 Enterprise on a Lenovo ThinkPad T420.

I'm a web developer, so my primarily use is for an additional monitor for my development environment or webpage under development. I've seen no issues running the adapter under this configuration. I've also had good luck watching the occasional YouTube or Netflix video on the monitor driven by this adapter.

I highly recommend this product to someone looking to cost-effectively add an additional monitor to their setup.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Probably not actually a con of this particular device, but occasionally (upon re-docking my laptop to the dock where this adapter is connected), my Windows 7 system complains that the USB hub's power output has been exceeded and refuses to power this adapter. This is likely an issue with the hub on the Lenovo ThinkPad dock I'm using.
