5 out of 5 eggsrefurbished; Roku 3

Pros: Refurbished. I think I paid 64.99. Remote didn't work. Most likely the reason it was returned. I googled "roku 3 remote doesn't work" found the easy fix. Push button under battery cover and pair remote. Worked on the first try and it's been flawless ever since. Headphone jack and earbud headphones that plug into remote. It is awesome for nighttime viewing. Plex app makes the Roku into a multi media center for all of your digital media. The free HDMI cable doesn't come with roku 3. Best device for TV since the DVR. Network remote (don't have to aim at device. Device is about 5"x5" and 1" tall. Only buy the Roku 3, due to better hardware to prevent lag. Unless, you only have RCA connections on your TV. Then get the Roku 2 (roku 2 does not have earphone jack on remote). I spent $65 for a $99 device.

Cons: You have to have a cable subscription for the apps like espn, foxnow, etc to watch most of the content from those channels/ apps.
No local channels and very little live TV, but nothing a simple antennae won't take of. Espn and Cspn are the only live apps that I can think of, I am sure there are a few more but not many if so.
No DVR. BUt isn't really need because most content can be played at anytime.

Other Thoughts: The cons are not enough to deduct an egg.

5 out of 5 eggsCut the cord and purchased 3 - Excellent quality

Pros: We decided to cut the cord and stop paying Charter cable over $100 per month for HD service, and I have to say, Roku is amazing! I read most of the reviews online for the Roku 3 and shopped around, and found that Newegg had the best price per unit. When I received them, I did have a problem syncing the remotes to the set top boxes, but I followed the supplemental instructions included with the unit (and verified online) and all of them work. I like them so much that I also purchased a Roku stick, which isn't as fast, but works fine. My wife and I really thought that we would get bored just watching Netflix, Hulu, and A****n, but we have discovered channels that we never realized existed! Coupled with an Antennas Direct C-1 Clearstream antenna and we now have local HD programming in addition to the Roku content. Cutting the cord was the best financial decision we have made in a long time.

Cons: The batteries that came with the remotes were off-brands and a few were dead, so I ended up throwing them away and using my own batteries. This worked out OK because I had to pair the remotes with the set top box anyway.

Other Thoughts: I read a few of the complaints about remotes not pairing with the Roku 3 and initially, that was the case with 2 of my 3 units, but using fresh batteries and using the reset button worked for me. In comparison to the Chrome stick and A****n Fire Sticks, both of which I also own, the user interfaces of the Roku 3 and even the Roku stick, are far superior.

1 out of 5 eggsBAD - Remote does not work

Pros: Have not been able to test device due to remote issue.

Cons: I have tried two separate remotes that have been sent to me. Once when I first bought the refurbished device and once when I returned the device because of remote defections. I feel now that I have been played a fool and am now $20 more in debt to a device I have yet to use. Just buy the item new. And from another site. I have lost trust and respect for newegg and do not plan ordering through them once I get my refund. If I get my refund.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: How I lived without this device before, I do not know! Excellent value and I'm quite happy with this

Cons: The only things you should watch out for are the phone app is only so so and the machine will reboot maybe once a month. So if you're not watching it during the reboot, you wouldn't know about it.

5 out of 5 eggsRoku 3 gotta get another one

Pros: Supports Dual Band wireless taking advantage of the dual band wireless router I purchased from Newegg. The speed is amazing! The menu updates faster than my cable provider. Netflix allows for custom profiles using this device and can select TV shows by season. My son plays the Youtube channel most of the time. We love it. I increased my Internet and reduced my cable channels. With this box of entertainment we don''t need cable.

Cons: There's no off switch always active bringing down my bandwidth. You can jump it to menu on the remote to reduce the activity.

Other Thoughts: When the Roku stick is Roku 3 performance quality i will be buying that one to open up an HDMI port.

5 out of 5 eggsSo far, so good!

Pros: Bought this for my son's room. Ran through set-up, creation of a Roku login, and within minutes....I was watching Netflix via the Roku's wi-fi.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: Just like everyone else, I had to submit a credit card to sign up. Found an old VISA gift card with 5 bucks on it still, and entered it. Just make sure that if you go this route that you register your VISA throwaway/gift card.

1 out of 5 eggsRoku 3 Refurbished

Pros: none, never watched anything.

Cons: Never made it thru the setup routine. Unit quit responding to the remote. Replaced the batteries, didn't help. Rebooted the unit, didn't help. STAY AWAY FROM THIS ITEM, WORTHLESS.

Other Thoughts: This is the second refurbished Roku purchased from New Egg. Returned first one after about 7 months of use. Didn't get to watch anything on the second unit.

1 out of 5 eggsBuyer Beware

Pros: none

Cons: Be careful to read the fine print, you can't return this product for any reason. You can't use the unit without being forced to give Roku your credit card information. In addition they force advertisements which take up 1/3 of the screen. Waste of money, get a WDTV, Apple TV. I'm stuck having to try to resell this because Newegg won't allow a return.

5 out of 5 eggsSo far so good... :)

Pros: This refurbished unit has worked just as advertised thus far, and is essentially like new besides the cosmetic scratches. The apps are easy to install and the user interface is pretty slick and fast too. If you are looking to stream from Netflix, Hulu Plus, Amzn Prime Instant Video, Redbox, or whatever your preferred subscription based service this unit will do the job well, and in HD when available. There's also a bunch of free apps with free content like TV episodes and movies, but the amount of selection there is not as wide or as up to date as the subscription based apps. It's very light and portable, so you can set it up anywhere within range of your wi-fi hot spot and TV easy enough. For the money, this refurbished unit is a great deal, and with an extended warranty and New Egg's superb customer service you will still be getting a great deal over buying it brand new around $100.

Cons: The refurbished unit comes in a brown box not suitable for gift giving in a lot of cases. Additionally, the Roku box and remote do have cosmetic scratches, but that's to be expected. The limited warranty of 90 days is not impressive, which is the same for a refurbished or new unit... I'd suggest you get a year of warranty coverage more for peace of mind. It won't give you paid services for free, you still have to pay for those, but it does offer a lot of free content nonetheless.

Other Thoughts: This refurbished unit has work just as advertised thus far. I've had it for a couple weeks now and I'm loving the features and ease of use. It was quick to setup, about 10 minutes to download the apps and register the unit online. I bought it on-sale refurbished with an additional one year warranty just in case it dies out on me before the year is up.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Awesome system with the HDMI cable included. Cheaper than buying the ROKU by itself and other stores. I had no problem hooking this up and using it. It works great. My last Roku 3 only lasted about 9 month but I got a warranty and received all my money back so I could get another one. Roku and Play On combined will allow you to get rid of your cable box.

Cons: Last one only lasted 9 months. Get a warranty.
