Decent, but still not enough
- Pros: Low power consumption, the fastest processor that HPs Windows Home Server can support. File compression speeds were dramatically increased. Streaming video through ORB over the internet is now doable, whereas with the stock processor, it was unbearable, with choppy video, as the processor maxes out when the video playback starts.
- Cons: Playback over my home network to my notebook or Xbox 360 through ORB is still not possible, as the processor pegs itself at 100%.
- Other Thoughts: If you are going to upgrade your processor on a HP WHS, make sure to pickup a tube of Arctic Silver 5, and the cleaner from Arctic silver as well. The combo of the products is dramatic, and I use them on all my computers. It is highly recommended from modders across the net to use when installing the processor on the EX470 etc...
If you aren't going to use the processor for video streaming, but want some extra grunt from the system, this is an inexpensive mod and worth the time involved.
Good price, good deal. Worth it.
- Pros: Fast processor, overclocks great and easily, idles at 37 degrees celcius at 2.83Ghz on stock. Could've gone higher on stock but it idled at 49 celcius which is a bit higher than I'd like it be.
- Cons: None come to mind.
- Other Thoughts: If I were you I'd spend a few extra bucks and get dual core. Reason I didn't is cause i was on a $100 budget for a new cpu+mobo+ram. But if you're up to it this is a great deal!
awesome !
- Pros: great single core chip for an am2 platform. i was looking to buld a system for a friend at an affordable price, and since they are not gaming or anything high end, this chip will do just fine.
- Cons: none
- Other Thoughts: very impressed with its performance for a single core chip.
