Throw another day’s work on the "done" pile. The Athlon 64 X2 5400 Brisbane makes it easy. The dual cores run at a blistering pace of 2.8GHz and have 1MB of L2 cache each. This advanced processor is part of the AMD64 family and as such it is fully compatible with today's 32-bit software and is ready to handle the ever increasing number of 64-bit programs out there.

More oomph for less power, that's the promise of Cool'n'Quiet technology. This feature allows the OS to slow the processor down when full speed isn't necessary. That reduces your system's power demand and can save you money. The more immediate benefit is that less power means less heat, so your system runs cooler and that will let it last longer. It also means the fans will slow down and make less noise.

  • newegg AMD64 Dual-core Technology AMD64 is designed to enable simultaneous 32- and 64-bit computing with no degradation in performance. With dual-core technology there are two complete processor cores in one physical package running at the same frequency to deliver TRUE multi-tasking power, allowing users to switch from one program to another without pausing for the computer to catch up and reducing annoying processing pauses.
  • newegg HyperTransport Technology HyperTransport Technology (HT or HTT) is a high-speed, low latency, point-to-point link designed to increase communication speeds between integrated circuits in computers, servers, embedded systems, and networking and telecommunications equipment. With HT technology the AMD Athlon X2 4850e Dual-core processor enjoys 2000MHz system bus speeds.
  • newegg Enhanced Virus Protection All AMD processors equipped with AMD64 technology are Enhanced Virus Protection-enabled. Enhanced virus protection acts as a preventative measure causing viruses to be localized, short-lived, and non-contagious, eventually being flushed from system memory.
  • newegg AMD Virtualization Virtualization on desktop computers allows a single PC to act like multiple virtual machines. AMD Virtualization can enable client computers to seamlessly support multiple operating environments. And it also helps make it easier for PC enthusiasts to upgrade and maintain their PCs through emulation.
  • newegg AMD Cool'n'Quiet Technology AMD's Cool'n'Quiet technology is an innovative solution available on AMD Athlon 64 processor-based systems that can effectively lower power consumption and enable a quieter-running system while delivering performance-on-demand.

4 out of 5 eggsgreat processor, odd to not include stock fan

Pros: Fast, stable

Cons: doesn't come with heatsink/fan, but there is a large empty space in the box where the heatsink/fan is supposed to go.

Other Thoughts: It does say it in the description that there is no cooling device included, but I didn't even think to look at that because I've never seen a retail processor without its stock heatsink/fan. Managed to pick up a Rosewill heatsink/fan for about 10 bucks and free shipping... so it wasn't too bad. However, at 10 dollars more, you might be able to get a more powerful processor that comes with its heatsink/fan.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat CPU for a budget system

Pros: I got this for the price and previous reviews and I was not disappointed. My computer is working way faster than I expected and I haven't tried to overclock this yet. Pretty sturdy, considering the accident that caused 6-10 pins that got bent on it. After bending it back, it works as if it never happened.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: AMD AM2 790X ATX Mobo
4 Gb RAM
GeForce 9600 GT

5 out of 5 eggsAMD athlon 64x40 5400

Pros: Pretty fast and stable. This is for upgrading my old AMD sempron. It works out quite good. The speed is increased noticeably. Over all very good with the bargain deal.

Cons: none

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome value

Pros: So much more faster than my Phenom X3 (2.3Ghz). For most apps I use, it seems I benefit much more from having 2 faster cores than 3 slower cores, and I mean the difference is night and day.

Haven't messed with overclocking, except for in the ASRock Mobo BIOS, I just selected something like "Easy Overclock" ? (can't remember), and set that to OC 10%.

Price point creates amazing value for this chip.

Cons: None so far.... Actually, I forgot that the Black Edition doesn't include a fan and heatsink (my fault, although NewEgg would probably get more business if they prominently displayed a reminder about this to customers), and I wanted to build the computer ASAP, so I went to the brick and mortar store and shelled out almost $40 bucks for a copper HS/fan that only has 3 pins (and makes more noise than I expected), when I could've just bought the AMD stock version off E*b*a
*y for 20bucks/free shipping....

In other words, make arrangements to buy a heatsink/fan if you're getting a black edition processor.

Other Thoughts: Great value!

5 out of 5 eggsDescent

Pros: this is a great cpu for the budget builder. it overclocks to 3.6 stable with a small bump with the voltage , but only stable @ 3.2 ghz . handles gaming fairly desent with a 4870 gpu, if your not wanting to dump a lot of money in a rig waiting for those sweet 32nm's to come out... this is the ticket.

Cons: none.

Other Thoughts: only wish it had more cache

5 out of 5 eggsGood Value

Pros: Great for the price, huge upgrade over my old Pentium 4 system. Runs cool at stock speeds on cheap Rosewill heatsink/fan. It's no quad core, but it does what I need it to do very well.

Cons: Doesn't come with cooling, but that was my own fault for missing that! Still a great product.

Other Thoughts: I'm currently overclocking to 3.2GHz on the cheap cooling mentioned above and it runs 65-67 degrees under constant load. I'd suggest dropping more than $15 and getting a somewhat decent CPU cooler if you want to achieve a higher overclock.

5 out of 5 eggsdownload core temp to monitor temps people!!!!!

Pros: Download a program called core temp to monitor temps people!!!!!Works fantastic a great chip at a low price heat is a issue so get a good fan. I use a coolermaster tr2 works great wish it had a fan control though!!!So I could increase fan speed that is the only thing holding this thing back....So get a good fan very important if you want the full potential out of this chip!!!!I have had this thing up to 3.4 but heat was the problem not the chip...I run it at 3.26 stable no problems..Every system and every chip is different so you have to put your time in sometimes to get the most out of this chip..my chip did not take long but yours might read, read, read lots of info on the net....do not put a stock heatsink on and expect good results it aint gonna happen!!!!unless you live in Antartica outside lol.............

Cons: kind of small cache but you can compensate with overclocking it.....

Other Thoughts: buy it before it goes away!!!!

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Well the only thing holding me back is heat had it past 3.3 with a after market cooler had to back it off because of heat related issues not the chip...runs at 3.26 without a hitch...well except on warm sunny days when its hot in the room...then I back it down to 3.10 no problems..really nothing stops this chip except heat so get a good fan and let her rip lol.......!!!!!!!set your bios to shut down at 65 celsius and take it as high as it will go then back off a little run orthos and look at temps go from there most games will not heat it up more than orthos will so no worrys buy it...its fun

Cons: none buy it!!!!its cheap and fun to overclock it.......
