- Pros: Decent speed for an incredibly cheap price. This was my basic system building chip for a while for anything that didn't need to use photoshop. I run Windows Server 2008, play games, do everything without any speed problems
- Cons: It doesn't sing to me at night. Plus overclocking has had issues, but I'm not sure if that's the processor or board, I haven't put much effort into it.
- Other Thoughts: It's hard to believe just a few years ago people complained about computers not being "vista ready", my $300 desktop today runs the latest server edition of windows. I originally bought it as a filler CPU until the 95W Phenom II's came out, but now I'm going to just stick with it until I actually see a need to upgrade
Excellent Upgrade Choice!!!
- Pros: Ordered a few weeks back when it was 29.99 free shipping!
Its very fast, near cold to the touch, power efficient, silent, and performs endlessly faster than the CPU it was replacing. For a cheap upgrade you just can't beat this CPU!
- Cons: None so far..customer is very happy at not having to wait anymore for things to happen!
- Other Thoughts: Ordered this for a customer who's Emachine T2484 w/ 2.4Ghz Celeron & 256MB Ram just couldn't cut it any longer. Being a video nut (primarily on video sites or watching her own dvd movies) the celeron recently started pegging out at 100% CPU usage on youtube and many other video sites. DVD playback was even worse!! After ruling out malware or viruses we upgrading her to 768MB ram. Performance improved, but movie watching was still painful. That solidified for me that the poor Celeron was the problem. So after that we were able to determine that her 120GB HDD, PSU, DVD Burner were keepers. But the E was in need of a brain transplant. For 100 bucks you just can't beat the value!
AMD X2 BE-2300 - 29.99 Foxconn M61PMV AM2+ - 39.99 Kingston 1GB DDR2 - 10.49 Shipping - 20.00
It's been just under a month and all is good. She is very happy with the results. If AMD would just push the value message..they'd be unstoppable!! An Intel upgrade would cost double this minimum! Bravo AMD :)
It was free.
- Pros: It was free.
- Cons: I don't have a am2 board >=O
