5 out of 5 eggsFast for the price

Pros: Using Windows 7 Home 64 bit with 4 GB DDR3 and a Radeon HD 5670 all on a Gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2P Micro ATX board, this thing flies pretty good. Converts a 2 hour standard definition (720x480) movie in only 20 minutes using Freemake, and renders a 1.5 hour 720x480 movie in Cyberlink Power Director 9 in the same time frame. In most tasks, this is faster than my FX-8120 (turns out Bulldozer sucks as much as people say, at least for older and cheaper programs). Works good for gaming as well unless you have a very new and high end graphics card in which case you may get a slight bottleneck.

Cons: I bought mine used, and it's hard to find these new anymore, but either way they cost a little more than they should should since Phenom II X4's are only like $20 more for a brand new one which will have quite a bit higher clock speeds and a superior set of features (such as the L3 cache and better architecture). I'm trying a Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition in the build I'm working on now, so I'm anxious to see how it does compare to this.

5 out of 5 eggsThe $100.00 wonder

Pros: I originally bought this to replace an Athlon 4600 dual core while waiting for Bulldozer to come out. Still using a 5 year old ASUS M2N-E motherboard who kept putting out bios updates which allowed me to install this chip.
Well, we know how Bulldozer went (not worth the effort), so I am still using this 635 Propus with the old MB. Guess what? I still have a very fast and usable computer.
I don't game or overclock and use this computer for home theater, copying DVD'S, internet, email, etc. Just a great value. This thing never crashes or bogs down.
I am using Windows 7, an old 4850 vid card and 4 gigs of ram.
I feel like I should upgrade but everything still works well, so why should I?

Cons: None, money well spent.

Other Thoughts: I hope AMD comes up with some new processor that would work as well as the Athlon did. We AMD fans still hold out hope.

5 out of 5 eggsReliable.

Pros: I have no complaints about this CPU. I have never once had any problems with it. After about 9 months i replaced the thermal glue on it, and it now stays at a steady 27 degrees celcius while idle, maybe 40 tops on a heavy load. Nothing leaves me saying "Well, i wish this was faster" or "why is this not doing what i want it to". Pretty simple, right? The fact that i can't think of anything that sticks out about it is what makes me happy.

Cons: Does get overloaded pretty easily while doing music production. But that's my fault for not having a sound card to handle that. And, no l3 cache, but i haven't noticed a super tremendous difference in performance compared to other chips from around the same release date as this one, so the l3 cache "con" is more of something that's just on paper that could irk the technologically inclined.

Other Thoughts: Pretty cheap. I'm keeping this until i can settle on something for the am2+ socket as an upgrade...

If you're on a budget and want something worth that money, go for this or something similar. you won't be dissapointed.

5 out of 5 eggsbudget gamers dream

Pros: fast, smooth and reliable.
low power consumption
multi-core

Cons: N/A

Other Thoughts: i bought this to be my gaming rig, had to deal with a low budget ( just started a job and was trying to save the money) and decided to make sure i had somethign that would get me to a few months later when i had money saved, well i have had the money for over 3 months now and havent needed to get a new processor.
I have been running servers, voice game and video, and playing games and have had no issues.

I HAVE maxed the CPU out but thats expected when compiling a level for a game right? :)

5 out of 5 eggsI love you,Propus

Pros: Great performance for less price! Easy install!

Cons: Mine didn't come with a case sticker! When I called AMD support they didn't send me one. :'-(
The fan it comes with is too dinky; you'll need a bigger one.

Other Thoughts: AWESOME PROCESSOR!!

5 out of 5 eggsIncredible

Pros: QUAD CORE 2.9 for under $100!! Easy to overclock. I am using this with an MSI 870-G45 AM3 AMD 770 ATX AMD Motherboard and it is SMOKEIN FAST!! OC'd the processor to a 3.48GHZ without any failures and it gave me a windows 7 score of 7.3!

Cons: ?CONVERSE? Thats a shoe, this processor was absolutely no CONS! Perfect processor! Don't spend 300-400 bucks when you can get this BEAST for $100!

Other Thoughts: In my 12 year IT career, I have always been and INTEL man. This processor is the best to date. I switched from a Core 2 Duo 3.2 to this AMD QUAD 2.9 (3.48 OC'd) and I will probably never go back. INSANELY FAST!

5 out of 5 eggsgreat CPU for the price

Pros: Quad core CPU for under $100, ya cant beat it. If you're tired of spending alot of $$ on keeping up with games, this CPU should keep ya going for a while, and with the mobo I bought, I'm future proofed at least up to everything thats out right now.

Cons: heatsink is small and cheesy, but, to keep the cost low, I guess I can deal with it. Temps are still good with it :)

Other Thoughts: My last build was with the latest and greatest of everything. $250 for a motherboard, $1,000 for a CPU, $700 in video cards, you name it. Unfortunately it was last generation socket 939, and everyone went multicore with socket changes. It worked for a little over a year before I had to start turning settings down on new games. So I decided to "budget" build with future proofing in mind. This CPU with MSI's 870-G45 motherboard is a great package in my opinion.

5 out of 5 eggsamazing

Pros: cheap, cheap, cheap!!! If you're system is choking playing BC2, Black Ops, or any other new game, this is an awesome and affordable upgrade for someone tired of spending alot of money on gaming systems every 6-12 months. I bought this CPU, MSI's 870-G45 motherboard, and 8gb of Gskills ripjaw DDR3 1333 memory. For around 250. I couldn't play BO or BC2 even at low res, lowest video, now I can play both at max settings and native res.

Cons: I really wish we didn't have to reinstall from scratch just for changing a mobo/cpu/ram. Wish MS would come up with a way of just uninstalling system drivers, and changing... But, thats technology, minor bump for the results.

Other Thoughts: I think this is an amazing upgrade to get up to speed, 3ghz quad core processor, 8gb ram, and a mobo that will support <at least> the newest 6 core CPU's that are out, I was going to get one of those, but opted to try to save some money... smart choice!
Good luck, and enjoy if you decide to try it .
