5 out of 5 eggscheap, works great for everything a non gamer could want

Pros: works, temps are all-right. does everything for the customer i built for which is web, flash games and minor work tasks

Cons: oem fan, when left at default is ridiculously loud, like hair dryer loud.

Other Thoughts: with the motherboard supporting fan speed profiles based on temp, i set it to keep the fan under 50% speed at 50c or less. now it is quiet as hell.

4 out of 5 eggsOn par with a similar speed dual-Celeron

Pros: I've purchased around ten (10) of these, looking for something better for the money than a dual-core Celeron. Really, performance is similar for the same money. I do mostly office PCs. However, with almost any AMD board, RAID is basically free, which makes any AMD CPU more attractive as well.

Cons: Nine of ten wouldn't unlock. Not a big deal, but don't buy these CPUs expecting a free boost.
No heatsink, so that drives the cost up a little.

Other Thoughts: Really, expecting more, but it's fine.

5 out of 5 eggsDefinitely a winner, best money can buy

Pros: I understand that my review title aspires to greatness, and before you mock me for it, read forward more.

So I have built computers for many friends, family, friends of friends, etc. over the past couple years, and this is the processor I have used in most of them. There is a good reason I have done this. Its cheap, its quick, it runs cool, it handles games well for its price and its just the all-around choice I use for all budget builds (gaming or not).

More specifically, a 2.8 dual-core is plenty for medium resolution gaming. If it isn't enough, there is a solution to assist further. This processor can be overclocked to 3.2 GHz without even changing any voltages or multipliers. That little bit can actually sometimes be the difference between hiccuping and smooth gameplay. It also OC's even farther without much fuss, I never leave a system above 3.8 permanently anyway.

What else can I say? Its definitely the right option for cheap and fast.

Cons: I guess my only gripe with this processor is that now that it has been out for quite some time, its finally nearing the end of its technical lifespan, and any time now it will become feeble in comparison to the next generation of processor. However, this is a looming threat even to my Core i7 desktop, so for fairness lets just say its fine considering it only costs about 50 dollars anyway.

Its only other problem is that its cache size and speed is not all too amazing and therefore when you hit the bottleneck of the cache, there is no way to go any farther, period. No amount of overclocking would get you any farther than the pitiful cache will let you. If it had a big L3 cache on top of the 2 x 1MB L2 cache, this would be absolutely perfect. Even so, I think the positives definitely outweigh this architecture issue.

Other Thoughts: From my experience, overclocking this without changing the voltage or multipliers seems to vary in stability from processor to processor. Some are as low as 3.05, some are even up to 3.55 (this has happened only once though). The average is definitely very near 3.2 though, so I can safely say that you will be able to get yours to 3.2 no sweat at minimum.

One of my customers had me replace his prolimatech megahalems with liquid cooling, he gave me the HS afterwards. I decided to test one of these 240's overclocking ability given a HS as monstrous as the megahalems. I was able to reach 4.35ish GHz before it pretty much refused to go any further (21 c room temp, 2-120mm HS fans, 2-120mm intake). This thing gets pretty dang hot when you push it past 4.0 GHz. To be honest though, I can't say buying this assuming to overclock it intensely much makes any sense. If you really want more performance, you just gotta splurge a bit and buy something better, simple as that.

3 out of 5 eggsC'mon Newegg!

Pros: Cheap. The product was not for me, but for a friend who wanted to upgrade his wife's PC for W7.

Cons: This is the first time that Newegg has delivered a less than stellar item to me, over the course of many purchases. The processor was obviously OEM, but upon inspection, it has a bent pin. I have fixed the bend, but am less than happy that this sort of quality assurance is allowed in the biggest PC parts company in the USA. Please Newegg, visually inspect any OEM parts that you ship out!

Other Thoughts: I'll continue to order from the Egg, as all my previous experiences have been good.

5 out of 5 eggsIncredible!

Pros: - Cheap
- Overclocks VERY well
- Cool and stable

Cons: - nothing at all

Other Thoughts: This is a follow-up to a review I made several months ago. Just wanted to say I am running steady OC at 3.5 GHz with 1066 RAM for months now under Linux Mint 10 and lovin' it! Windows XP ran great too... until hard drive crapped (it was a bad drive anyhow). System is on for days at a time and never hiccups. Can we say VALUE for the money folks (and now I just read you can get a triple-core for like $60).

I have stopped shopping anywhere else but newegg. Why bother...

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Processor

Pros: 65W, 2.8 ghz dual core.
Oh.. The main PRO, its AMD!!

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I bought this to upgrade a micro atx 6150 mobo. Also in the set-up is a radeon 4850. This is a back-up gaming rig which is basically used to play lan games. This processor has handled every game I threw at it flawlessly. And I'm not talking pac-man & super mario type games. I'm talking the big name games.
