Get this CPU!
- Pros: works great, this particular chip uses less watts than the similar 4600+, this does not affect the performance. The motherboard I'm using is Abit's Fatal1ty AN9 32X.
- Cons: It's a little pricier than the similar AMD Athlon X2 4600+, if you don't mind your computer using more watts go ahead and buy the similar non-65W CPU. Also the CPU with similar speed: Intel Core 2 Duo performs "slightly" better in benchmarking tests. But it's barely noticeable.
- Other Thoughts: I'm using a piped heatsink. (Zalman's CNPS 9500 AM2 FAN) works great and is silent! Better than the stock fan.
Awesome CPU
- Pros: I have had the for 2 months in a 24/7 running computer. I must say, this is the most coolest CPU I ever across. My idle temp is 28-30c. Gameplay = 35c max. I was about to buy a zelman cooler, but I have to ask myself, WHY? I'm not an overclocker, so I don't know what I can max at. But I don't have any problems doing several tasks at one time.
- Cons: None.
- Other Thoughts: Gigabyte 590sli motherboard, AMD X2 65w 4600 CPU, Adata ddr2 800 2gb ram, EVGA 7900gs video, 2 320gb 16mb cashe sata 300 western digital hard drive(none raid), Ultra UV ATX Case, Epower ZU-550w p/s, Windows XP Pro 32bit.

Fast processor for ordinary use; more than adequate stock fan
- Pros: No problems during and after installation. The stock thermal pad / paste appears more than adequate.
While burning DVD's, using TV tuner etc. the CPU temperature does not exceed 36 deg Celsius (97 deg F).
- Cons: None noted yet, in 9 months of moderate use.
- Other Thoughts: No fast or slow games in use. So, have no idea of CPU temperatures etc. under those circumstances.
Installed in a MSI motherboard and an Antec 1650 case, with no side fan.
Fast CPU, heatsink/fan is quiet
- Pros: Installed with no problems, BIOS IDed the CPU. Heatsink/fan is quiet.
- Cons: None
Excellent Processor
- Pros: Great value processor for a new Vista system for my sister. Paired up with 2GB OCZ RAM and a Gigabyte 690G motherboard.
- Cons: Heatsink. Thought with this being the 65W version stock HS would be okay. Temps got a little too high (55 full load in Orthos) in my Ultra MicroFly case. Bigger case would probably work okay for temps, but I had to add a heatpipe cooler to get temps down where I wanted them.
- Other Thoughts: Wanted low wattage CPU and chose this over Brisbanes because the 2.4ghz works for DDR2-800. The 2.1 or 2.3Ghz parts give you DDR2-700 or DDR2-767. Not that it really matters much. Cool n quiet is interesting. CPU throttles to 1000 mhz, and Ram goes to 1000/5 = 200 mhz (DDR2-400). So I guess cool n quiet is underclocking both the CPU and RAM to save power. Nice touch. This system runs at about 60 watts (from the wall) idle, perfect for an always on system.

Highlights
 |
AMD64 Dual-core Technology AMD64 is designed to enable simultaneous 32- and 64-bit computing with no degradation in performance. With dual-core technology there are two complete processor cores in one physical package running at the same frequency to deliver TRUE multi-tasking power, allowing users to switch from one program to another without pausing for the computer to catch up and reducing annoying processing pauses.
|
 |
HyperTransport Technology HyperTransport Technology (HT or HTT) is a high-speed, low latency and point-to-point link designed to increase communication speeds between integrated circuits in computers, servers, embedded systems and networking and telecommunications equipment. With HT technology the Athlon 64 X2 4600+ AM2 processor enjoys up to 2000MHz system bus speeds and delivers a maximum of 8GB/s I/O bandwidth and 20.8GB/s processor-to-system bandwidth.

 |
Enhanced Virus Protection All AMD processors equipped with AMD64 technology are enabled with Enhanced Virus Protection. Enhanced virus protection acts as a preventative measure causing viruses to be localized, short-lived, and non-contagious, then viruses are flushed from system memory.
|
 |
AMD Virtualization Virtualization on desktop computers allows a single PC to act like multiple virtual machines. AMD Virtualization can enable client computers to seamlessly support multiple operating environments. And it also helps make it easier for PC enthusiasts to upgrade and maintain their PCs through emulation.
