4 out of 5 eggsfast and hot

Pros: fast AMD reliable and very over clocker friendly

Cons: these things are HOTTT H!?l it self is cooler than these chips minus one egg for the very poor and LOUD fans that come with these >>> sound like a 747 takeing off. my living room where the computer is located the db reading was near 82 db

Other Thoughts: new egg is the best

5 out of 5 eggsgreat buy

Pros: Installed 2 of these on a new motherboard Dec '07 and have not had a crash since. (vista x64) Reliable and more raw power than most would know what to do with. I use it for video/sound editing and folding@home (for all of those idle cycles) with 8GB RAM and I almost cried when seeing how fast it performed compared to other setups. I can also open up all of the adobe and office suites and worked seamlessly between them with no lag.

Cons: I really have no complaints. Best PC I've built in a long while. Just make sure you know what you're doing and leave plenty of airspace for cooling (don't run any cable over the top or near the CPU). The more uncluttered air, the better.

Other Thoughts: can't wait to see the quad-core update (total of 8 cores!), but this will be "fast" for AT LEAST a couple years and usefull for many more.

5 out of 5 eggsCount on AMD

Pros: Great processor, have yet to run them above 50%. Handles everything I do and have tried to throw at them.

Cons: Run warm, had to turn case fans on p182 case to medium to keep stock cooler fans from sounding like a jet was landing. Run fairly level temp even under heavy gaming.

Other Thoughts: Wouldn't think twice about buying this processor, again.
Sys: Antec p182 case, Antec TPQ-850 power, Asus L1N64-SLI WS/B, 2xAMD FX-74, Crucial DDR2-800 4GB, EVGA 9600gt SSC Video, Seagate 1TB HDD, ++

4 out of 5 eggs4x4 on the cheap

Pros: Price drop on these things since release is astounding these things are about as cheap as a bag of chips :P performance is still only on par with a 6400+

Cons: all the other goodies (i.e. MB, registered memory, etc.) that come along with this socket are ridiculously expensive and not worth the trouble since phenom came on the scene.

Other Thoughts: wanted to reply to ME you should try thermalright.com for an aftermarket heatsink they make some heat killing heatpipes for FX processors. I would recommend buying through newegg but they don't have the setup you need for sale at this time.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great CPU. I wish it was compatable with the Tyan mainboard that was part of the combo deal I bought. Do your homework.

Cons: Not compatible with the Tyan s2932 mainboard.

5 out of 5 eggsOutstanding product

Pros: Installed two of these and both are running great. No problems and no lag from the processor.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Word of warning if you go with the ASUS L1N64. The HSF that comes with this CPU will not blow air on the MB's HS's so you may have to install the optional fans for the passive cooling setup.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I get to say, "Yup, there are two dual cores in there."

Installing the cores and the stock fans is fairly easy. They run incredibly fast and aren't too hot. Great overclocking capabilities. Uber cheap.

Cons: Might not get alot of support. Oh well.

Other Thoughts: Make sure you get a big case. I am talking BIG. The fans are a little noisy and teh CPUs can get hot.

5 out of 5 eggsPrice Drop

Pros: Completed my Asus L1N64 Quad FX system. Kicked up my system's use of the installed 8Gb RAM. Now there are no limitations. Price dropped recently since AMD may not support this architecture much longer.

Cons: None against the FX-74, but hoped to have dual Opteron Quad cores by now.

Other Thoughts: It's tough to have the fastest system available for software development, but this helps.

5 out of 5 eggsfx-74

Pros: This is the fastest CPU I've ever tested (and I've done some major overclocking with phase change coolers on other CPU's)

Cons: It can get hot if not properly ventilated/cooled.

Other Thoughts: So far it has outdone (overall) all Intel CPUs (quad cores) that i've compared it to, in real world tests. Either AMD or Intel, go quad core. :)
