1 out of 5 eggsWould not recommended at all.

Pros: Meh

Cons: I got this to replace my old i5 2600k, it was starting to get out dated and I wanted an upgrade. Unfortunately I wish I would have stuck with intel. This processor has given me nothing but trouble while trying to use it for simple gaming. It gives me OS crashes constantly for almost every game that I play. So if you are a gamer I would definitely go with intel.

Other Thoughts: I will never purchase AMD again.

1 out of 5 eggsToo Hot! Chip has flaw runs way too hot after only a few months with water cooled system chip failed!

Pros: Fast chip

Cons: Water cooler included is a JOKE buy the 8350 instead of the 9590

Other Thoughts: Worked well for a while then chip just melted down and stopped functioning properly after only a few months use

1 out of 5 eggsToasty processor, but an unreliable cooler.

Pros: When this thing was a gem. 6 months was all I got out of it.

Cons: Sadly, either the processor died...or the pump died as well. I can't test this chip in another system as it's a power sucker and heat pumper. So it's been out in the open for a month now as I wait for tech support to just take this thing back.

Also, you CAN NOT purchase the water pump...really bummed that it doesn't exist. Kinda built myself into a wall here.

Dead end processor

2 out of 5 eggsAMD FX-9590 Vishera 4.7GHz Socket AM3+ 220W 8-Core Desktop Processor - Black Edition FD9590FHHKWOX with Liquid Cooling Kit

Pros: It's fast. I have a FX-8320 overclocked to 3.9 and this is about 30% faster running BOINC for the short time I can run it..
Makes a great heater. At full load this thing pulls almost 230 watts.

Cons: It's faster for only a short time. There is no way to keep this thing cool. The included water cooler was useless. Two minutes running BOINC would have the temp at 165 F and climbing. I then installed a Cooler Master Nepton 280L with 4 fans in push/pull which helped but I still can't run BOINC longer then 20 minutes before the temp is back up to 165 F and still climbing.
I have tried turning down the Vcore but anything below 1.5v is too unstable and locks up. I now have it underclocked at 4.2 MHz and it is stable but it still runs very hot. Idle temp is 105 F and it will still overheat. This is in a Phanteks Enthoo Luxe case which is huge with 4 case fans in addition to the 4 fans on the radiator.

Other Thoughts: I have been a fan of AMD since the K5 days but this is about it. If the Zen isn't a huge leap ahead of this useless thing I will have to do the unthinkable an buy Intel. Come on AMD, help us out. We are trying to love you but Processors like this make it very hard.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat cpu Lousy cooling

Pros: Easy install, cpu is awesome, liquid cooling solution is easy to install

Cons: Liquid cooling works okay untill you put a load on the cpu then cpu shoots up to over 65.(not even overclocking) Also very loud when under load the cpu is louder than a stock fan. I finally got tired of the noise and the overheating issue and removed the liquid cooler and replaced it with a Frio OCK from thermaltake. works great and the best part is quiet.

Other Thoughts: excellent concept but it was very loud a good portion of the noise was coming from the pump. Noise level was pretty standard till load was put. I do a lot of video work and that was when it brought the roof down. Other times ran a little warmer than normal but with in acceptable parameters. the noise though was just too much I expected it to be much quieter.

I split the rating cause oif the cooling solution.. The cpu is great.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Purchase!

Pros: I love this processor!!! Not only for gaming, but for Video editing applications, and Photography editing, and all other graphics/video editing software works great with this processor. Rendering is so much faster now, plus multi-tasking isn't a problem while rendering a massive project, I can even play games (having 32 GB memory and two r9 390x cards helps).

Cons: It does run warm and more power consumption, but honestly I could care less about that since most of the applications I run requires a processor that can handle constant work loads, and we all know that generates heat. There are many times where I'm rendering a 2 hour film with so many filters added, and the processor is working non stop for 24 hours straight ( or even up to two days straight), and that's a lot better then few years ago when I was rendering for 3-4 days straight.

Other Thoughts: I do get frustrated with all the nay Sayer's about this company, or it's products, and they always seem to tell people who purchase AMD products, what an idiot they are for purchasing AMD products. I support competition, and therefore I support the existence of two competing companies. I support AMD because I believe if this processor can do professional work as mine, and allow me to play all the top of the line games BUT FOR A FRACTION OF THE PRICE, then I'm VERY happy.

1 out of 5 eggsVery Dissatisfied. Do NOT buy.

Pros: - Somewhat fast

Cons: - Inefficient
- Runs very hot
- Crashes frequently
- Unreliable

Other Thoughts: Just after buying, I realized what a mistake I'd made, and that I should've bought an Intel processor, but I decided to keep it, since I didn't want to spend any more money on RMA fees (I bought a board with the wrong chipset), and I wanted to see if AMD could actually make a good CPU. I was very, very wrong, and am dissapointed with almost every aspect of this CPU, even speed. This is supposed to be AMD's top-of-the-line Desktop CPU, and it really isn't that great, with mid-range Intel processors with lower clock speeds, lower power consumption, and lower temps being better performing. Please do not buy this product, and take a look over at team blue, specifically their i5-4690K or their i7-4790K.

3 out of 5 eggsRuns very hot

Pros: Powerful processor and now reasonably priced. My system has been quite stable, and with the right water cooler, this processor is quite a performer. However, this processor has its quirks (see cons).

Cons: Runs too hot, even with the included water cooler. Under full load (all eight cores running BOINC software for the World Community Grid), this processor would go above 60C. When the load is removed, the temperature cools rapidly, but any processor should be able to handle full load without excessive heat. There are many reviewers complaining about the processor temperature, and this assertion is quite accurate. I recommend a larger water cooling system (see other thoughts).

Another aspect to be aware of with the processor is its motherboard and power supply requirements. This processor will by itself use a little over 200 watts, which is very high and only a few motherboards can handle this beast. Also, one needs to consider their power supply. A minimum of a 500 watt power supply, and realistically 750 watts is necessary for a gaming system containing this processor.

Other Thoughts: I went ahead and purchased another, larger water cooler system and it keeps it 50C or less when under full load. Specifically, I bought the LEPA Aquacharger 240, but there are other similar sized water coolers that would work as well. I strongly recommend a two fan system.

I went for overkill with the power supply, and currently am using a Corsair RM1000i. I think a 750 watt system would work fine, and my system under heavy load draws about 480 watts (as measured by the UPS).

I think this processor is a good one if you want a lot of processor power, and need to heat a room simultaneously. With winter coming soon, this could be seen as a good thing.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat CPU

Pros: This thing is powerful, Multi-tasking is a breeze and the chip doesn't even care. My liquid cooler works great, not overly noisy and keeps the processor under 40 degrees (C) unless under super heavy load and even then it's only ever peaked at around 51. That being said, this does run very warm considering those temps are with liquid cooling. I've not tried a standard heatsink but I doubt it would perform very well.

Cons: My only true con to this CPU is the fact that I, like many others was experiencing hangups where the PC would just totally lock up and required a hard reset. After doing some digging I found that it was the CPU and motherboard interaction. The board I'm running is a Asus Crosshair V formula Z and in the BIOS are power saving settings that are enabled by default. While those settings were on, and the CPU had a spike in voltage the entire PC would freeze solid and require a hard reset. After disabling those power savers I've had absolutely zero issues what so ever with this CPU. Not really high tech stuff to do for someone who built their own PC, but anyone not familiar with navigating mobo bios might have issues with the CPU.

Other Thoughts: the C1, C6 states in the CPU settings are the ones I was referring to in cons.

As with any type of water cooler, a large size case goes a long way when it comes to space management. The cooler it comes with is closed loop and not able to be opened. That's fine for me, it may turn others off as some folks like to change the coolant formula.

2 out of 5 eggs1 down...

Pros: After-market liquid cooling provided.

Cons: Installed the product into an ASUS mobo using a EVGA 850W gold PSU running Windows 7 SP1. The computer was randomly hanging when I would do something process intensive. I thought it was a GPU issue because this was often during game play. After performing several diagnostics and reviewing syslogs, I narrowed it down to the CPU. I read the reviews to stay away from this CPU but thought that it couldn't happen to me.

Other Thoughts: I am currently working with AMD to replace it through the warranty. I want to believe this processor is just as good as the Phenom series I had for years before I upgraded to the FX. I will re-submit a review based on AMD's warranty service.
