4 out of 5 eggsWorks well for a basic home server

Pros: - Cheap
- Low TDP at 25 W max
- Overclockable to 1.5 Ghz
- Does what I need it to do for a server build

Cons: - Had to disable integrated graphics and use a dedicated GPU in order to reduce constant 100% CPU load

Other Thoughts: I bought this along with an MSI AM1l motherboard for a cheap server running Windows Server 2012. The only issue I had was the constant 100% CPU load when transferring files and running system tasks, I fixed this by using a dedicated GPU to offload processing graphics from the APU.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Value

Pros: Very cheap APU for the most basic computing needs. Runs Ubuntu linux with no issues on a basic desktop build. Tried many apps and they all worked with acceptable speeds. Processes 1080P video files with DTS just fine.

Cons: Seems to have issues streaming HD video but I wont knock it.

Other Thoughts: Have not tried with any Windows, does not seem suitable for newer windows versions. Running with 8GB DDR3 @ 1333Mhz which is probably a bottleneck, I'm gonna knock it down to 4 and see how it does.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat home theater solution

Pros: Extremely cost effective per it's performance. This APU can play Minecraft surprisingly but most importantly, 1080p video playback is flawless. This makes for a very quiet device that can hide in the background of your home theater.

Cons: It is worth pointing out that the 2650 can be a little sluggish just after bootup so cut your startup programs down to a minimum.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Sempron AM1 processor for single-core use...

Pros: Ultra-low power at only 6 W TDP with one-core disabled.

Cons: Slow and overpriced compare to Sempron 3850.

Other Thoughts: Purchased this Sempron 2650 because the frequency speed is 200 MHz higher than Sempron 3850, and it's a faster processor if I need to disable a core and run it as a solo processor to reduce power consumption. Disabled one core using a Biostar AM1MHP board, overclocked 50 MHz more to 1.50 GHz max, set the voltage to 0.88, and, wholla, this baby runs only 6W TDP max.

However, Windows Experience Index CPU score is only 2.9 with one core disabled, so it's most suitable for Linux only. It's fun to see it choking and freezing, though, with Windows 7, refreshing my memory of a Pentium II Windows 7 installation all over again. Enabling the second-core brings the score up to 3.8, but it's still at the lower-end, and adds another 6W TDP of power (12W TDP total).

For dual-core usage or better, seriously consider the Sempron 3850 instead. Otherwise, the Sempron 2650 makes it an excellent solo processor with one core disabled without the high price of the Athlon 5350.

3 out of 5 eggsto save $40 ?

Pros: its cheap mobo and cpu costs just under $60, it works

Cons: for $40 more you can flip over to INTEL/haswell and get a lot MORE punch compared to this setup

Other Thoughts: if you are on the TIGHTEST of budgets and need a very BARE minimum PC, then get this, this is my FIRST AMD new build....its a throw away/temp build

5 out of 5 eggsRuns great!

Pros: I bought this to replace an AMD E-350 in my HTPC. This apu is perfect for HTPCs. A lot snappier than an E-350 and runs cool and quiet.

Cons: None so far!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for XBMC

Pros: Price/performance ratio is great

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: I got this to make an XBMC HTPC and it has more than enough power for this. Very happy with the choice.

5 out of 5 eggsAMD Sempron 2650 Kabini

Pros: I purchased this APU with the intent of seeing what AMD's most-basic core system (APU + M/B + RAM) could do, and for $100.99, I'm impressed, particularly considering I'm only running 2GB RAM.

This APU runs Linux Mint 17 (Cinnamon x64) with the AMD Catalyst for Linux drivers installed and seems to work without issue. No problems installing or running VMware Player within Linux Mint - I've only tested a compact image of Windows 2000 Professional so far, but it runs fine.

I have not tested it in the home theater environment - I suspect this would be a target application for many, but for me, running old Windows games in a VM and doing everyday tasks was the intent, and this APU delivers.

This build works in the M350 mini ITX case, but the distance between the SSD and the heat sink can't be much more than the thickness of a piece of paper. The MSI mainboard has an ATX 24-pin socket and a 4-pin CPU connector. I cheated and used the PicoPSU 150XT - I will be testing the 80-watt version with the accessory 4-pin connector next week.

All things considered, this is a fantastic APU for the money.

Cons: It does not produce a sustainable cold fusion reaction.

Other Thoughts: AMD Sempron 2650 Kabini APU
MSI AM1I Socket FS1b Mainboard
Patriot 2GB DDR3 1600 RAM
Mushkin Chronos Deluxe 60GB SSD
Mini-Box M350 with PicoPSU 150XT
