Crush your enemies, climb the tower of paperwork, or do both at the same time. Intel's Core 2 Quad Q9650 not only makes it possible, it makes it easy. The Core 2 Quad Q9650 has quad cores that run at 3.0GHz and shares 12MB of L2 cache.

Quad cores means true multi-tasking and multi-threading. Tasks or threads get their own core; no more sharing one core and set of clock cycles. This lets you turn your system into the ultimate home entertainment center PC. One core handles the usual action on your operating system, while the second can play a DVD on the TV, the third download a file from internet, and the fourth one sends audio to the kids in another room with no lags or stutters. All this is made easier with Intel’s advanced Digital Media Boost.

The 45nm Intel Core 2 Quad processor is armed Intel HD Boost, which implementing new Intel Streaming SIMD Extension 4.1 (Intel SSE4.1) instructions for fast high definition video editing and encoding, enhance the multimedia performance.

  • newegg Intel Core 2 Quad-core Processor With four processing cores, the multitasking monster Quad-Core Intel Core 2 processor delivers fourfold the performance on highly-threaded applications, taking your desktop PC experience into a completely new realm of mega power. The powerful processor delivers serious performance on the ultra-demanding games of today and tomorrow. The innovative 45nm quad-core technology optimizes thermal performance for reduced power consumption and noise.
  • newegg Intel Advanced Smart Cache Intel Advanced Smart Cache Technology dynamically allocates the shared L2 cache to each processor core based on workload. This efficient, multi-core-optimized implementation increases the probability that each core can access data from fast L2 cache, resulting in significantly reduced latency for frequently used data and improved performance.
  • newegg Intel Wide Dynamic Execution With Intel Wide Dynamic Execution, each of the four cores can complete up to four full instructions simultaneously, improves execution speed and efficiency, delivering more instructions per clock cycle.
  • newegg Execute Disable Bit (EDB) Intel's Execute Disable Bit function can prevent certain classes of malicious "buffer overflow" attacks when combined with a supporting operating system. Execute Disable Bit allows the processor to classify areas in memory where application code can execute and where it cannot. When a malicious worm attempts to insert code in the buffer, the processor disables code execution, preventing damage or worm propagation.
  • newegg Intel Virtualization Technology (Intel VT) With Intel VT, one hardware platform functions as multiple "virtual" platforms. For business, Intel VT offers improved manageability, limiting downtime and maintaining worker productivity by isolating computing activities into separate partitions. In the home, Intel VT allows creating unique user environments for multiple family members using the same platform simultaneously.

5 out of 5 eggsGEEEEEEZZZZ!

Pros: Upgraded from my E8400 to this on my P5N-D in a 2 year old Area-51 case. What a HUGE difference.Board picked up CPU immediately.Runs great so far.Using Arctic MX-2 thermal paste and an Asetek 5120 liquid cooler.

Update 2\12\16
Have had not ONE issue with this unit in almost 5 years.I am just NOW getting ready to upgrade machine significantly.I could not recommend this processor any higher.I believe this one will go down in tech history as one of the greatest.I will probably put it in my old machine with this MB and RAM for a backup.Awesome!

Cons: None yet.

Other Thoughts: This is my first Newegg experience and I must say that (so far)it has been good. Also purchsed the Arcticleaner that also worked fine.Specs:
Intel Q9650 3.0 Ghz
Asus P5N-D
8GB GSkill DDR2
Seagate Barracuda 500 GB
My old SoundBlaster Audigy 2 ZS
Viewsonic 24" Monitor
Reclusa keyboard

5 out of 5 eggsStill a KILLER CPU

Pros: Now with 6 years under it's belt, this CPU is still chugging away brilliantly. Had 3 years in a all purpose gaming machine overclocked, and 3 years light duty in a HTPC. Now, taking it (still with the Maximus II Formula MB), and putting into a Lian Li case, fresh copy of Windows 7 64 pro, and giving it to a single neighbor lady with kids who does not have a computer. The CPU and Motherboard still ROCK. Long live the Yorkfield.

Cons: There are no Cons. The CPU and Motherboard consistently outperformed newer offerings for a very long time.

Other Thoughts: It took Intel awhile to match the raw performance of this CPU in an overclocked state. Sure, my i7-4790K Devil's Canyon does outperform my Q9650, but the Q9650 is 6 years old, and was phased out in the Fall of 2011. I think the Yorkfield will go down in history as one of the great ones.

5 out of 5 eggsPurchased 2/27/2009; Still My Powerhouse 12/21/13

Pros: Cache, speed, longevity, pure power.

Cons: How can you have a con for a CPU you have been using hard for coming up on 5 years?

Other Thoughts: O/C'd to 3.33 since it was new. Has run 24/7/365 for nearly 5 years, except for maintenance and new motherboards.

It is still a high-end CPU.

I am now almost totally laptop/desktop replacement: Samsung i5; SONY VAIO i5; HP Elite Haswell i7-Quad; MacbookPro 13" Retina i5. STILL, when I am home, I do what I need with my Q9650. I don't game, but I do a lot of transcoding and BOINC. It isn't bleeding edge, but it is still a serious monster CPU.

5 out of 5 eggsStill Faster

Pros: Quite a fast and efficient CPU whose TDP is only 165 watts (allows for a worry free upgrade for other components that draw power).
It has 12MB 8 way level 2 cache which is much more efficient than 2 MB level 3.
It is actually faster than a stock Core i7 at the same clock speeds.

Cons: Stock cooling unit is noisy but only at extreme use (no game I know of requires 3.0 GHz clock range and only if you have a slow video card.

Other Thoughts: It appears faster than my intel core i3 @ 2.4 GHz on another computer I own, technically they are supposed to be equivalent but I would still rate the stock Core 2 Quad Q9650 much fastener as the core i3 has level 3 cache and only 3mb of it. For those who don't know, level 3 cache is very slow and inefficient, so Intel decided to unlock the clock rates on the core i series for compensation.

4 out of 5 eggsGood processor, struggles with high end games

Pros: 4 Cores
High speed

Cons: Didn't perform as I expected, has trouble running a lot of games despite meeting the requirements

Price is higher than processors that are faster

I feel this processor wasn't exactly for gaming, or maybe my GTX 285 is holding it back? I'm not sure

Other Thoughts: I should of waited and bought a stronger processor, I understand that game developers aren't optimizing games for 4 cores, but a stronger processor is required to play most of the terrible ports coming out now-a-days, while games made for pc are running superb

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome CPU

Pros: I built this machine over 4 years ago and this CPU is still going strong

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: May upgrade to a i7 but have to go with a HEX core to get the same L3 :(
12Mb Rules!

5 out of 5 eggsStill kicking

Pros: Its still running GREAT!!!! Have had this processor on my main pc for 2 years and do everything i want with it NO waiting. I work on Computers for a living and even do custom builds. This cpu runs smoother and snappier than most core I7.

Cons: High RPM hard drives are too expensive without large storage.

Other Thoughts: Q9650 3.4 ghz, 16gb DDR2 Gskill, ATI Radeon HD 5770,
4 1tb seagate 7200 rpm hard drives, Ocz water cooling dual radiators with 4 120 mm fans, nzxt mid tower, 800w power supply
