Crush your enemies, climb the tower of paperwork, or do both at the same time. Intel's Core i7 processor not only makes it possible, it makes it easy. The Core i7 Extreme Edition 975 has quad cores that run at 3.33GHz and shares 8MB of L3 cache.
Quad cores means true multi-tasking and multi-threading. One core handles the usual action on your operating system, while the second can play a DVD on the TV, the third download a file from internet, and the fourth one sends audio to the kids in another room with no lags or stutters. All this is made easier with Intel’s advanced Digital Media Boost.
With Intel Turbo Boost technology and Intel Hyper-Threading technology, The Core i7 enables highly threaded applications or demanding applications to work in maximum speed without need the slightest effort. The 45nm Intel Core i7 processor is armed Intel HD Boost, which implementing new Intel Streaming SIMD Extension 4.1 (Intel SSE4.1) instructions for fast high definition video editing and encoding, enhance the multimedia performance.

Fast
- Pros: Fast.
- Cons: Heatsink and fan are pretty much worthless. This processor runs wicked hot. I highly recommend good aftermarket cooling to keep it from overheating. Every i7 I've used has run hot. Cost. Not sure if faster clock speed justifies the cost. Honestly, except for some bigger applications/games I run, I can't tell the difference from my Core 2 Quad 3.0 GHz.
- Other Thoughts: EVGA X58 3X SLI, Intel Core i7 975, 12 GB Crucial Ballistix Tracer DDR3-1600MHz, EVGA GTX 295, Intel X25M SSD, WD Velociraptor HDD, Corsair 1000W PSU, NZXT Zero2 case, Vista 64-bit, Cooler Master V8 heatsink/fan.
Great Processor
- Pros: Very stable and easily overclockable proc. I run it at 4.2 GHz with water cooling. I have two cooling circuits, so the 975 runs by itself on one circuit with a double radiator. This keeps temps around 39 degrees most of the time.
- Cons: Price.
- Other Thoughts: Settings are: multiplier 21, BCLK 200MHz, CPU voltage 1.4. I'm also running Corsair DDR3 2000 memory at 2000. Nice stable system. Highly recommended if you can stand the toll. Before this proc I was running a 920 at 4 GHz. In conclusion I can only say that the last few percentages of speed costs! Is it worth it? <shrug>

This is a very good CPU.
- Pros: Excellent temperature control. Can overclock properly, just by changing multiplier setting. Turbo mode allows even faster speed. Higher speed DDR3 is supported, with triple channel compared to 1156 LGA socket CPUs, they use dual channel.
- Cons: The price is a bit much, but you will not be disappointed with what you get.
- Other Thoughts: I have read how so many people overclocked their 920 series, and go on about how it is better to do that at a cheaper price. Let me say this: that is not the same as overclocking this CPU through the multiplier only. Games and some software will have a choppy effect when using the 920 overclocked. I have personally observed this myself. Used Battlefield 2 as the test software. That was my only other thought, as I didn't want everyone to think the cheaper CPU overclocked is the ultimate solution. It might buy you some time, on most software, applications, games. But, don't be shocked if you have stuttering or a problem all of a sudden after overclocking a CPU with a locked multiplier. HEADS UP!!!
Excessive
- Pros: Fast. Reaches overclocks the others do not.
- Cons: I do not own the 975, but I do own the 920. The price/performance ratio on this product is absurd compared to the lower line up. If someone told me they bought this processor, they clearly have more money than sense and/or don't know much about computers. People are arguing QPI and Ghz, but it really comes down to real-world computing. If you overclock any 1366 i7, the comparisons will be marginal, and DEFINITELY not enough to justify 3 times the price. It's absolute insanity.
- Other Thoughts: I currently run my 920 i7 at 3.6ghz on a Cooler Master V8 heatsink. It idles in the mid to high 30 C's which is a good 10C lower than the stock cooler at 2.66ghz. It is stable as ever, and I never have to troubleshoot my machine, then again, I know what I'm doing. I could easily OC the 920 to 4.0ghz and still keep in the low 40C's, which is STILL cooler than the 2.66ghz stock cooler.
The point is, my 920 is running at a rate Intel would charge $1500 for, and it's as stable as any of them. When you start getting this fast, they all start to blur together.
Save your money, get the 920, and upgrade everything else on your computer. Now THAT'S money well spent.
almost to fast!
- Pros: everything about this cpu is amazing! my main concern when buying it was its baseline clock speed. im in iraq and i didnt want to o/c and have to worry about heat... but, i did toy around and got to 4.0ghz with no problems. the stock cooler auto adjusts speed so it got a bit noisy but its totally stable playing crysis @ 2560x1600 everything high... nuff said
- Cons: so its a bit pricey... if your in the market for something like this, you already planned on spending this kind of money. hardly a con in my book.
- Other Thoughts: with a real nice air cooler or better yet a water cooler, 4.5-5 is easily attainable. this puppy max's out win7 cpu score no prob. im runnen evga 3 way classified mobo, and an evga gtx 295 co-op f t w-edition(one for now), also corsair x128 ssd and 6gb 1866 7-8-7 dominator gt. truly instantaneous on everything i do!
