Intel Pentium E5300 Wolfdale Dual-Core 2.6GHz LGA 775 65W Desktop Processor BX80571E5300

  • 800MHz FSB
  • 45nm Wolfdale 65W
  • 2MB L2 Cache
ICON Loading...

With the Wolfdale core, Intel pours more power into the Pentium package. The 45nm process allowed Intel to reduce needed power down to 65W. Lower power means less CPU heat, which translates to lower system heat and longer system life. They also packed more features into the chip.

The L2 cache has been bumped to 2MB and the Front Side Bus has been pushed to 800MHz. You can now use both DDR2 and the hot new DDR3 memory for extreme performance. They also boosted memory access and execution speed with Wide Dynamic Execution and Smart Memory Access. These technologies work together to let the processor handle more instructions with more data per clock cycle. You'd better watch out -- your enemies will be shooting back faster now!

The Advanced Digital Media Boost feature has been enhanced with the addition of the SSE4 instruction set and Intel HD Boost, to give your entertainment experience better audio and video processing. It will also help with speech recognition, engineering and scientific applications. Most important of all will be the security boost with increased speed and encryption power.

  • newegg Specialized Dual-core Microarchitecture The Intel Pentium processor includes dual execution cores in a single processor to enable execution of parallel threads or applications simultaneously, resulting in revolutionary dual-core performance, breakthrough energy efficiency and exceptional system response time when running multi-threaded applications, or multiple demanding applications. The innovative 45nm fabrication technology optimizes thermal performance for reduced power consumption and noise.
  • newegg Intel Advanced Smart Cache Intel Advanced Smart Cache Technology dynamically allocates the shared L2 cache to each processor core based on workload. This efficient, multi-core-optimized implementation increases the probability that each core can access data from the fast L2 cache, resulting in significantly reduced latency for frequently used data and improved performance.
  • newegg Intel Extended Memory 64 Technology (Intel EM64T) Intel EM64T provides an enhancement to Intel 32-bit architecture by enabling the mobile processor platform to access larger amounts of memory. With appropriate 64-bit hardware and software, platforms based on an Intel processor supporting Intel EM64T can enable use of extended virtual and physical memory.
  • newegg Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology (EIST) EIST allows the system to dynamically adjust processor voltage and core frequency to decrease the average power consumption and heat production. Combined with existing power saving features, EIST provides an excellent balance between supplying power when you need it and conserving power when you don’t.
  • newegg Execute Disable Bit (EDB) Intel's Execute Disable Bit function can prevent certain classes of malicious "buffer overflow" attacks when combined with a supporting operating system. Execute Disable Bit allows the processor to classify areas of the memory where application code can execute and where it cannot. When a malicious worm attempts to insert code into the buffer, the processor disables code execution, preventing damage or worm propagation.

5 out of 5 eggsE5200

Pros: Overclockable, stable and reliable. If you need to get a 775 buy this, especially if your motherboad overclocks. The Gigabyte g31 board is insanely stable. Thats 125 total, at this price, get a G620 and a 1155 board, overclock that and your processor performance would be at higher end i3 levels, which is to say almost at the top gaming wise. Seriously, do the research, I7 and i3s are crazy close in many regards.

Cons: None, not even the heat sink that everyone apparently hates. Just watch the temps, my clips popped out once, Ive moved the board 3 or 4 times in 3 years so it was my fault for not checking. Anyway, temp went up to 75 in my new case and I knew something was wrong.

Other Thoughts: Over 3 years running at 3.2 Ghz; multiplier set max and Bus 268. Stock cooling, regular Ultra compound, big bottle. 55-65 C under 100% load. Hot but well within safety envelope. With a cooler, 4Ghz easy, need good memory though, I just usa corsair GTX2 or whatever.
Just got a GTS450 VideoCard, plays Crysis 2 on high in the 30s Fps. DeusEx maxed, all on 1600x900.
Just an amazing little proc, even processor intensive games like this old thing.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Performer!!

Pros: Price is fantastic.

Great overclocker, performs very well and very cool. Great for gaming too actually, it's fantastic on Windows 7. I don't see how the average user would need more than this, I run about 13 programs at once (including two games) usually and this thing keeps up very well.

Need to know if it can run a CPU intensive game? This Pentium can handle it fine at medium settings with a low ends graphics card (GT 240 for example).

It's a great overclocker, runs really cool (less than 30c idle, 35 under heavy load, at 3.2GHz; 30c idle, 40c under load).

Cons: No Hyperthreading, though that's what an i3/Atom processor is for.

Other Thoughts: Came OEM with a prebuilt computer, nvidia control panel worked around the OC block (nforce chipset). Would definitely recommend, just buy it! You will not be disappointed!

If you want a more updated Pentium, you can try the Sandy Bridge, but I don't know much about those.

5 out of 5 eggsOne of the great CPU bargains

Pros: Inexpensive, 800mhz FSB good for overclocking, runs cool, overclocks like crazy, is a screamer running at 3.6ghz.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: This CPU is fast and runs at 3.6ghz at stock voltage and with the less than ideal Intel fan/heat sink. If the motherboard it sits in would let me raise the CPU voltage and I used a better cooler, the CPU would run at 4ghz, or more.

Pros: An excellent Processor. Very smooth operation.
This processor was worth the price of the Combo deal by itself. XP Home runs faster than ever now.

Cons: non i can think of! Price is a little high or an older processor.

Other Thoughts: these chips seem to be holding there own even tho there are many new multiple core alternatives the price needs to come down common guys the chip is years old.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great 1 year later

Pros: Has consistently worked great in a mid-level gaming PC I made for my wife 1 year ago. Played games like Dragon Age and Modern Warfare 2 flawlessly.

Cons: none.
