Intel Pentium E5700 Wolfdale Dual-Core 3.0GHz LGA 775 65W Desktop Processor BX80571E5700

  • 800MHz FSB
  • 45nm Wolfdale 65W
  • 2MB L2 Cache

With the Wolfdale core, Intel pours more power into the Pentium package. The 45nm manufacturing tech allows Intel to reduce power requirements to 65W. Lower power means less CPU heat, which translates to lower system heat and longer system life. They also pack more features into the chip.

The L2 cache has been bumped to 2MB and the Front Side Bus has been pushed to 800MHz. They also boosted memory access and execution speed with Wide Dynamic Execution and Smart Memory Access. These technologies work together to let the processor handle more instructions with more data per clock cycle. You'd better watch out -- your enemies will be shooting back faster now!

  • newegg Specialized Dual-core Microarchitecture The Intel Pentium processor includes dual execution cores in a single processor to enable execution of parallel threads or applications simultaneously, resulting in revolutionary dual-core performance, breakthrough energy efficiency and exceptional system response time when running multi-threaded applications, or multiple demanding applications. The innovative 45nm fabrication technology optimizes thermal performance for reduced power consumption and noise.
  • newegg Intel Smart Cache Intel Smart Cache Technology dynamically allocates the shared cache to each processor core based on workload. This efficient, multi-core-optimized implementation increases the probability that each core can access data from faster, more efficient cache subsystem resulting in significantly reduced latency for frequently used data and improved performance.
  • newegg Intel 64 Intel 64 architecture delivers 64-bit computing on server, workstation, desktop and mobile platforms when combined with supporting software. Intel 64 architecture improves performance by allowing systems to address more than 4 GB of both virtual and physical memory.
  • newegg Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology (EIST) EIST allows the system to dynamically adjust processor voltage and core frequency to decrease average power consumption and average heat production, which means of enabling very high performance while also meeting the power-conservation needs.
  • newegg Execute Disable Bit (EDB) Intel's Execute Disable Bit function can prevent certain classes of malicious "buffer overflow" attacks when combined with a supporting operating system. Execute Disable Bit allows the processor to classify areas of the memory where application code can execute and where it cannot. When a malicious worm attempts to insert code into the buffer, the processor disables code execution, preventing damage or worm propagation.

4 out of 5 eggsGood

Pros: It was an upgrade from my old single core, I haven't had any processor related problems from it.

Cons: The heat sink is very poor, just used the old one. Works fine.

Other Thoughts: If only i could get rid of windows vista :(

5 out of 5 eggsGood update

Pros: If your motherboard supports it this is a fine upgrade from older 775 cpus. I replaced a Pentium D 3.6 with this one and the gains are astounding. Wolfdale core, excellent choice obviously.

My daughter's rig was slowing down in games like Wizard 101 and such. Replaced the aged processor with this one and it screams through it now. No more stutter. Good processor for the build it was put into and it's use.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Paired it with a 9600 GSO on a Gigabyte board and plenty of ram and it's doing what I needed it to do for my daughters low end games. Nothing more demanding than Wizard 101 but it chews through it where before with the 3.6 Pentium D she had massive stutter and slowdown. It's all gone now.

5 out of 5 eggsBest Pentium ever i used

Pros: you pretty much can do every games or programing with this CPU if you have an decent graphic card such as 9000series GT.

Cons: i will say its only 800FBS

Other Thoughts: i use GT440 graphic card and this CPU to run battlefield : Bad Company 2 in high graphic option and it works just fine. Also, when im running my battlefield, it only rise up to 35C~41C with the STOCK fan.

5 out of 5 eggsThank Effin Christmas

Pros: Performance, ease of use, reliability.

Cons: No onboard espresso maker.

Other Thoughts: I've been running a P4 3.2 ghz chip with HyperThreading, (to give you an idea of its age). I think it's a northwood, on 90 nm architecture or larger. I've tried everything to get this box to shut the hell up. Fan speed hardware with dials. Gigabyte's Tuner App, opening the case, everything short of putting thing outside (in a Minnesota winter). Anything process intensive, and it would roar like a lear jet. Got Actua silent fans from QuietPC. Same results. Finally got this 5700 and that has calmed it down. Ahhhhh.

5 out of 5 eggsSpeedy!!!!!!!!!!

Pros: Popped this baby into an aging 4coredual-sata2 r2.0 to replace a P4 3.0Ghz. Wow, what a difference! I also managed to overclock it to 3.6Ghz on the stock cooler with no voltage adjustments. The idle temps are hovering at around 35C.

Cons: No copper core on the heat-sink.

Other Thoughts: $64 for a dual core processor and a 20% overclock to boot. This will bring some much needed life back to my old board. Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate actually flies with this processor, a Seagate 1TB 32meg cache drive, 2x2GB of Twin-X DDR2-800 CL5, and a Radeon HD 4830 512MB GPU.
