Take basic computing to new levels with the Intel Celeron processor dual-core. Because many software applications for everyday tasks are now designed for dual-core processors, users can be more creative and productive in the home, office, or classroom. In addition, security and virus protection often means running more than one application at a time, and the Intel Celeron processor dual-core has the power to run them simultaneously. Based on energy-efficient microarchitecture, the Intel Celeron processor dual-core delivers superior energy-efficient dual-core performance.

  • newegg Intel Microarchitecture Based Dual-core Processing The Intel Celeron G540 processor includes dual execution cores in a single processor to enable execution of parallel threads or applications simultaneously, resulting in great dual-core performance, breakthrough energy efficiency and fast system response time when running multi-threaded applications, or multiple demanding applications. The innovative 32nm fabrication technology optimizes thermal performance for reduced power consumption and noise.
  • newegg Intel HD Graphics Intel HD Graphics with dynamic frequency up to 1GHz delivers smooth HD video playback and mainstream 3D gaming without the need for add-in video cards or decoders. It also supports a wide range of display connectivity options and is dual display capable.
  • newegg Integrated Memory Controller The Integrated Memory Controller optimizes data bandwidth with two channels, offering stunning memory read/write performance through efficient prefetching algorithms, lower latency, and higher memory bandwidth.
  • newegg Intel Smart Cache Intel Smart Cache Technology dynamically allocates the shared cache to each processor core based on workload. This efficient, multi-core-optimized implementation increases the probability that each core can access data from faster, more efficient cache subsystem resulting in significantly reduced latency for frequently used data and improved performance.
  • newegg Intel Virtualization Technology Increasing manageability, security, and flexibility in IT environments, virtualization technologies like hardware-assisted Intel Virtualization Technology (Intel VT) combined with software-based virtualization solutions provide maximum system utilization by consolidating multiple environments into a single server or PC. By abstracting the software away from the underlying hardware, a world of new usage models opens up that reduce costs, increase management efficiency, strengthen security, while making your computing infrastructure more resilient in the event of a disaster.
  • newegg Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology is an advanced means of enabling very high performance while also meeting the power-conservation needs of mobile systems. Conventional Intel SpeedStep Technology switches both voltage and frequency in tandem between high and low levels in response to processor load.

5 out of 5 eggsCPU

Pros: As long as it works I am happy.
The low cost was the main factor in choosing this.

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: Got this as a match for a new MB.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat little Celeron CPU

Pros: Delivered quickly from Newegg...again.
Runs my HTPC in a micro ATX case connected to my Vizio Widescreen TV via HDMI perfectly. Runs quicker then the Intel Core 2 Duo it replaced.

Cons: I ordered 2 of these from newegg.com. One came in a box with lots of brown packing paper inside so that the CPU box was secure during shipment, the second CPU came with ZERO packing around it, so it was bouncing around inside the oversized box all during shipping to my house. Someone at newegg forgot to put packing in this one. This is why the egg is knocked off. Take better care to pack these parts better newegg.
Secondly, the heatsink/fan that came with this little Celeron is just to noisy! Gonna have to get another fan that runs quieter now.

Other Thoughts: These Celeron LGA 1155 CPU's are nice processors that compete with the LGA 775 Core 2 Duo's out there. They are great for a HTPC, which is what I use it for, the only issue is that the fan is too noisy.

5 out of 5 eggsIts Intel

Pros: I am building a gaming pc. I plan to purchase the Intel i-7 3770k ivy bridge for my build. but at the time i didnt have the money so i wanted to buy a cheap CPU until i could get the i7. i also heard that the mohterboard i purchased had problems with ivy brigde until you updated the drivers.

so i bought this for two reasons. Cheap and temporary buy, and the sandy. over all this is not by any means a bad cpu. its intel and for a very basic use it cant be beat.

Cons: none really i would buy the ivy bridge version if you dont need it for a specific purpose like me. ivy bridges are faster and better.

5 out of 5 eggsFaster then expected

Pros: Nice CPU for more budget minded builds. While I would not use it in a gaming or graphics editing rig, for most users this CPU is awesome. Runs cool andfast and handles average multi-tasking with ease. Not traditionally a Celeron fan, but after trying a few builds with these I must say I am impressed and my customers have been pleased as well.

Cons: none.

5 out of 5 eggsa great value

Pros: part of first pc build and its fast. works smooth under heavy load of installing updates and software for 3 hours straight.

Cons: can't play diablo 3, but that was sort of my bad.

Other Thoughts: Great general use CPU for average everyday use.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Good price. Works as it should.

Cons: Had trouble installing the heat sink.

Other Thoughts: Took one egg off for the low quality heat sink, but it isn't much of a problem.

5 out of 5 eggsEpitome of adequate

Pros: Inexpensive
Integrated graphics
Power-to-spare for a completely basic budget-build used for a few simple programs and surfing the web.

Cons: Not quad core?

Other Thoughts: I've always been of the mind that it's better to have more than you need, just to be safe, so I was hesitant to buy almost literally the cheapest, lowest-end 1155 CPU available on the site... But I knew the machine would never see any serious/heavy usage, and I wanted to save the client as much money as possible.

Granted, some of the snappiness might be because I installed a SSD rather than a traditional drive, but the machine has not skipped a beat. It managed to handle single streaming video well, it handles all their programs just fine... I'm sure if someone were just building an internet/Office machine, the chip would be all they ever need. Probably handle web/flash based games alright, too.

4 out of 5 eggsWish I had more than 2 cores

Pros: Great budget build chip. Cheap, and no theoretical need for a GPU, that's why I chose it.

Cons: Onboard graphics choke with more than one source of streaming video...not surprising though...it IS a budget chip with only 2 cores. Simple installation of a budget GPU will solve this issue. Still cheaper than a heavier duty CPU.
So, take this as an "educated con" on my part.

Other Thoughts: Can't knock the CPU for being what it is. I knew it going in, I just hoped that the 2 cores would be able to handle the light work that I would be subjecting them to...and they do, as long as I'm not streaming two different online live auctions in separate windows. 100% CPU use kinda locks the machine down.

Running with 8GB of RAM.

5 out of 5 eggsJust a little somethin somethin

Pros: Neat little proc for very small PCs. I just need something to tuck away in a corner. This CPU generates very little heat and the whole PC only pulls about 19 watts (Kill-a-watt)

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: Get one of these to drop in your 1155 socket so you can get running while you save up for the higher CPUs. These are fast on their own.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent value

Pros: From what I could find on benchmarks, this processor runs around the same as an Intel Core 2 Duo E8200 - E8400 range. Enough processing power for anything but high end video games.

Intel graphics onboard is especially nice. It will easily handle any video format for an HTPC application. Intel graphics control panel has everything you should need to configure graphics for an HTPC, even on older TV's. I'm running this on an older DLP unit and it's working great.

Intel virtualization technology for Windows Virtual PC or VMware Viewer / Workstation..... support.

Runs cool and quiet on stock fan / heat sink. Use your MB fan control.

Cons: None at all.

Other Thoughts: There is absolutely NO reason to use an aftermarket heat sink / fan on this. I have my fan set to 1600 rpm (quiet), no active case cooling (cept for the power supply fan), and it runs around 87 playing video with room temp around 70. Aftermarket heat sink would be a total waste.
