5 out of 5 eggsSimply Amazing

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE750BW 2.5" 750GB SATA III TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Two big pros:
1) The drive is amazingly fast. My system gets to the system login screen in a screaming 8 seconds. Then after entering the password and hitting enter, the system and all the "run-at-login" software is running in 3 seconds there after. AMAZING!!!

2) The cloning software is very clean and the system took the cloned disk was seamless. My cloning took a total of and hour and thirty-three minutes to copy 287 GB of data.

** I'll be purchasing another drive for each of my other systems **

Cons: None thus far.

Other Thoughts: I have a Lenovo IdeaPad Y580, and the transfer for the cloning was done using a Kingwin ADP-07U3 (SATA III to USB 3.0 adapter, which was not up to the USB spec).

5 out of 5 eggsWorks like a charm

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE750BW 2.5" 750GB SATA III TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Replaced a mechanical drive with this device. Suddenly, an old desktop rig has new life. Boots incredibly fast, applications launch quickly, and video capture / playback seems smoother. Great investment. Put a similar drive in my wife's laptop, and she loves it.

Cons: Not cheap, but a good value.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat on Intel and AMD with Add-in Card

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE750BW 2.5" 750GB SATA III TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: *Price per GB
*Performance
*RAPID Mode
*Reliability

I bought my first one about 7 months or so ago, the 1TB version. I installed that one on my Gaming Computer which is a G1-Assassin2 2011 with the i7-4930K and was impressed enough with the speed and over-all performance that I went ahead and bought 2 of the 750GB versions for my X58 1366 setups.

The G1-Assassin X58 and GA-X58A-UD5 motherboards only had the Marvell 9128 drivers for 6 Gb/s or SATA III ports which causes the SSD to show up as a SCSI drive and the Magician Software doesn't see it as a Samsung EVO when it's a SCSI drive, so I used the Vantec UGT-ST644R SATA III Host Cards for both of those. I let Windows 7 Ultimate install the generic AHCI SATA drivers and left them that way. I didn't install the Marvell 9230 drivers as I only wanted them for the SATA III ports.

I'm getting the same Read/Write speeds on both of those as my 2011 Assassin2 setup, just a slight bit slower, but so slight it doesn't matter.

Over-all with the add-in cards 4 internal SATA III ports and the Samsung 840 EVO SSD's, those two computers are good for a long time now, as mentioned above, they are pretty close now to the performance of the 2011 Computer.

I hope this doesn't get too long to read but want to try to help anyone having trouble with AMD chipsets trying to get the Samsung 840 EVO SSD working.

For the 3rd Samsung 840 EVO 750GB I purchased I installed it on my AMD build.

My AMD build or Office Computer is built on a Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 with FX-8350 CPU. I used the same model Vantec Add-in Card as on the Intel boards. I let Windows 7 Ultimate install the Generic AHCI drivers as I did on the Intel builds.

I installed the Vantec card first with no drives attached and booted to Windows letting it install the drivers. Re-booted again just to make sure the AMD chipset didn't take over the Vantec card.

I then shutdown, attached the Samsung 840 EVO 750GB SSD and booted into windows. Samsung SSD showed up in Device manager as an ATA drive, which is what we want.

I then did the Clone using Acronis 2014. Removed the original (240GB SSD) and booted to Windows on the Samsung EVO attached to the Vantec Card.

Installed Magician 4.3, did the Firmware update and then re-booted. After re-boot, I went into Magician and initiated the RAPID Mode and re-booted.

Everything is working great, though I'm only using the Benchmark that comes with the Magician, I'm getting the crazy speeds of Seq. Write 908 Seq. Read 952.
Before initiating RAPID Mode it was Seq. Write 483 and Seq. Read 507.

So in closing, if you're having the known issues with AMD Chipsets and the Samsung EVO SSD's, this is one way to work around them. I know it's an extra $45 dollars or so, but well worth it. My AMD computer is right up there with my Intel computers as far as the SSD performance goes.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I read a lot of reviews before buying one of these for my AMD build. After using the Vantec card on my 2 older Intel boards and seeing what it did for them, I figured I'd give it a go with my AMD and it's working out great!

Hope this review can help out some of the AMD users out there. I think I've included all the info needed to get it working smooth on both older Intel and AMD setups.

5 out of 5 eggsFAST BOOT!

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE750BW 2.5" 750GB SATA III TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Just like the title says, "FAST BOOT!" This drive has enough space for a while. I have all of my games and all adobe programs on it! No issues yet. I would get another one in a heart beat!

Cons: Price was a little steep but it was worth it. I know the price will drop in the future.

Other Thoughts: OS: Windows 7, no issues after two months of usage

5 out of 5 eggsStellar.

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE750BW 2.5" 750GB SATA III TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Just upgraded from a 120gb SSD to the 750gb SSD. Samsung makes the best SSD. They work perfect every time! And the Cloneing software could not be easier to use....made the whole process knucklehead proof.

Cons: Price. But you get what you pay for!

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE750BW 2.5" 750GB SATA III TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: It's fast.

Cons: It's so small you might lose it

Other Thoughts: Bought the 120GB 840 EVO SSD as my first ssd and loved it, so I bought this 750GB one too.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great with my Asus Desktop

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE750BW 2.5" 750GB SATA III TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: I love the fast boot time, 21 seconds for Win 8.1. It is very quiet compared to the HDD it replaced.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: I think it is the best upgrade you can make to your computer. I used to leave my computer on 24/7 so it would be ready to use whenever I needed it. Now I only have it on when I use it.

5 out of 5 eggsAstonishing

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE750BW 2.5" 750GB SATA III TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Easy to install, the included cloning utility makes replacing your old system disk a snap. I just hooked the new drive up via USB 3.0 to SATA cable, set the parameters and let it do the rest. After swapping the drives out, my machine booted like nothing had changed at all, although it did boot slightly faster. Also, I highly suggest their "magician" utility, it very much increases the performance of the operating system (Win 7 HP x64 in my case) For the money, I can't imagine there is a better drive on the market.

Cons: The drive did need a firmware upgrade off the bat to get full performance, but that's minor.

Other Thoughts: Below are my test results for the drive. Note that I performed the firmware upgrade and used the system tweaks suggested by the magician utility.

5 out of 5 eggsLots of space now

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE750BW 2.5" 750GB SATA III TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Faster than the 512GB 830 Pro I replaced even though my laptop only has a SATA II interface. It seems one never has enough storage space. Having an extra 250GB is sure nice.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsHappy SSD Owner

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE750BW 2.5" 750GB SATA III TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Samsung name and reputation.
Pretty good sale price.
Pretty good cloning software.
Pretty good performance tweaking software (Magician).
Easy installation.
Much quieter PC.
PC heat output reduced.

Cons: Would have been nice to have been warned about req'd USB adapter for cloning.
The directions were just a collection of numbered diagrams.
These things are still spendy.

Other Thoughts: This was my first purchase of an SSD. I saw the sale price and thought it was reasonable for 750 GB and had many good reviews. I was replacing a 1 TB harddrive only because of gaming.
I wanted to clone my Win 7 onto this SSD, so the provided software came in handy. To do this you need a SATA to USB adapter. I didn't know this until after I opened the package. Luckily I had one. However, because I had a large amount of data to clone, this transfer took over 13 hours. But the outcome was successful.
I also needed to buy a PCIe SATA III card to take advantage of SATA III throughput.
As of now, I would recommend this SSD.
I am contemplating buying another.
