1 out of 5 eggsdead in a day

Pros: arrived with Newegg's usual prompt service

Cons: One of the pair died in less than 48 hours. One sys error after another and video glitches hipped me to the probabilities of memory issues qucikly enough. Tested with a Live disc , then switched with another pair to confirm. Not a problem with PNY previously, but all it takes is once when you really need it. She's dead captain, and my client must now wait several days longer.

2 out of 5 eggsdissapointed

Pros: One worked.

Cons: The other didn't

Other Thoughts: I was hoping that I wouldn't have the same experience as the other reviews, however, after extensive troubleshooting I eliminated all other possibilities and one of the sticks of RAM was giving me BSoD. Furthermore, after trying to register the product the pny wesbite seems to be down and I am unable to register my product at this time. I will continue to try the website for my so called "lifetime warranty".

2 out of 5 eggsNot so good after all..

Pros: Cheap and backwards compatible with older systems.. But thats about it.

Cons: Bought this kit in May for my G5. First pair was DOA so Newegg sent me new ones.. Now in the last month or so my Mac has been freezing and kernel panicking like crazy. Decided to run Apple System Diagnostics and my memory failed horribly. ASD, Tech Tool Pro, Memtest, all failed my PNY sticks. The good old Apple factory RAM is still running just fine, too bad now Im back to 2GB of RAM while I wait for PNY to either answer the phone or fix their broken RMA website. Been trying for two days to fill out an RMA request on their site only to be met with a broken ASP form. Next time Ill pay the extra $10 and just get Crucial like I should have 6 months ago. Thanks to the kernel panicking (usually around like 1-2am so it sat with the fans in overdrive all night until I woke up the next morning), my G5 actually overheated and killed a hard drive of mine as well.. Thanks PNY!

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible Reliability

Pros: They are cheap, and actually work 25% to 50% of the time!

Cons: Out of 4 purchased RAM modules, one stick was erroneous on arrival and caused frequent BSoDs, which is perfectly acceptable for cheap RAM and was easily Isolated.

A second stick was insidiously erroneous and would have inconstant errors. It would cause program crashes, but not always. I had to run Memtest86+ for several passes on the three remaining sticks to track down this bad module.

Furthermore, I am still getting random program crashes, though less often (this absolutely did not happen before this upgrade). I highly suspect that a third module out of the four is malfunctioning once my case heats up a bit (I have a reasonably well cooled case, and I do not OC currently; it's not that hot).

Other Thoughts: I understand that a RAM stick is likely to be dead on arrival -- especially with lower end RAM. It happens and they can be replaced.

But these, even for cheap low-end modules, have an unacceptably high failure rate. I used to love PNY in the early 2000s. However, this will not do. I am sorry to say I will not be buying PNY products again.

1 out of 5 eggsFollow up to 11/1/11 review

Pros: None.

Cons: UPDATE 11/11/11: Received the replacement 2 sticks from PNY - DOA, failed Memtest86 immediately.

No doubt they'll want me to pay to return this pair, too.

1 out of 5 eggsStay away from PNY RAM!

Pros: At this point, none I can think of.

Cons: High failure rate both out of the box and after months of use.

Tech support not reachable.

Other Thoughts: I bought 8 GB of this RAM (four 2 GB sticks) in May. Each package is supposed to contain a "Matched Pair". I had to buy a total of 16 sticks to find 4 that worked! These were the part number specified by PNY for my Intel DP965LT motherboard, not just some random choice I made.

I'm a hardware pro, know how to control static, exercise all other cautions in installation. I also know enough to test RAM (Memtest 86, among others) before relying on it. Most of the sticks I bought failed within minutes of testing.

Once I found 4 sticks that worked, I ran memory tests for 48 hours before relying on them. Now, after just 5 months of use, one RAM stick has failed. In dozens of servers, desktops, and laptops, I have NEVER had any other RAM fail on me after it's worked a few days.

I called PNY and was disconnected after 15 minutes on hold. On the second call, they disconnected me after just 2 minutes on hold.

I went through online RMA process, not holding my breath.
