4 out of 5 eggsGreat Bargain!

Pros: Price! Price! Price!
I got it for $39 so it was a good deal especially now that its current price has gone up to $52.99. So far it's working OK with my old Kingston RAM and had no problem. It's an obsolete design but serves its purpose well enough.

Cons: No heat spreader.

Other Thoughts: I would like to give it 5 eggs because of the big discount I've got but it's still too early to tell since I only have it for a month. The reason I bought it is because of the price since it 's features are very basic and no heat spreader like the new models. It's only 1333MHz because I needed to pair it with my old RAM. I would not buy it now for $52.99 because at this price range you can get a better one.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for new chipsets, NOT for older ones

Pros: No problems. Installed in MSI Intel H61 board (H61M-P31/W8) as single stick for entry-level office PC for client. Seen ok in BIOS, passed 2 passes of Memtest86+ no problem, passed Prime95 blend using 3800 MB of RAM, Passed AIDA64 stability test, passed Intel Burn Test, Passed OCCT stability tests, no signs of problems to date.

Cons: According to a manufacturer response, NOT for use in older DDR3 systems, I think they specified X38, X48, G41 and the like. This is due to a higher chip density (look at the pics, only ONE side of the stick has chips). I would not put this in any Intel board older than the Sandy Bridge generation, or AMD board older than the Trinity APU generation to be safe.

No fault of the stick itself, just the company's fault for an un-advertised incompatibility with older chipsets. This would logically apply to any competing 4 GB stick with only one side populated as well. Pay attention.

Other Thoughts: There are comparably-priced 4 GB sticks that use a lower density chip configuration for more universal compatibility for those who need it. I bought this because it was on sale and beat the price of the others by a good percentage and helped me stay within the client's budget better, among other adjustments.

1 out of 5 eggsBad RAM

Pros: NONE

Cons: Wen I installed into my new build would not post. Tested in another rig I had that I knew worked, and same problem. I tried another memory stick from different manufactor that I had bought for another costumer and worked just fine. So RAM arrived DOA will never buy from Kingston again. 3rd time burned by them

Other Thoughts: Would give zero egg if allowed

Manufacturer Response:

Hi, I'm Jewel with Kingston Technical Support. We apologize for the issue that occurred with the memory. We are here to help and can confirm the compatibility of the memory to make sure that it is compatible with both systems it was tried. This is a Single Rank module that uses larger individual chips which are not compatible with older DDR3 chipsets such as X38 X48, G41, etc. It is unusual for memory to fail or be DOA as we do go test our products thoroughly as detailed here, http://www.kingston.com/company/testing.asp . We do stand by our products if memory is faulty or DOA it can be replaced under our warranty. Please call us at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT and I or another available Technician will assist you. Please be sure to have the part in question on hand when you call.

Thank you for selecting Kingston as your upgrade partner.
